The collaboration with Zepto to deliver cars booked in 10 minutes is highly unlikely IMHO. It may be for some official accessories?

I am thinking whether the service is for the Skoda cars (specifically ones with DSG) that have broken down and stopped somewhere on the road, with no chance of being auto-mobile. A kind of towing/flatbed service - but available in just ten minutes!!!

On a serious note, this seems to be a venture that has no real value, per se. Hence, I prefer to remain skeptical - for now.

Zepto has certainly taken the quick commerce market by storm. In fast-paced and happening cities like Mumbai and Bangalore, such platforms are a boon. But delivering something like a car to your doorstep is taking it too far. What is the utility?

Buying a vehicle is a momentous occasion for most folks. Visiting the dealership, completing the final formalities and driving away your brand new car is an experience in itself. Reducing this process to a home-delivery service is pointless, as I don't think it is considerably more convenient. Not to mention, it just robs away from the special feeling during delivery. Many BHPians echoed the same thoughts in this thread on showroom delivery vs home delivery of cars; 70% of the votes are for showroom delivery. Unlike groceries, it is not every day that you pick up a new car.

Heck, I even think that a 1.5 lakh-rupee iPhone 16 Pro Max is best ordered on Flipkart or Amazon rather than one of these quick commerce platforms because I believe in delayed gratification. I cannot imagine that the same platform, which brings your coriander leaves to your doorstep in 10 minutes, will do the same with your car.

I think this collab between Skoda and Zepto is nothing more than a marketing exercise to promote the Kylaq and generate interest. It's not like Skoda is selling lakhs of cars in a year and they had to find a way to reduce footfall in overcrowded showrooms.

Contrary to immediate thought that we get in mind - can Zepto deliver a car in 10 minutes? The answer is a flat NO. And it will be a no for eternity. The logistics of delivering a car at a door step without a customer ever visiting a showroom is next to impossible with the conditions in India right now. I think what Zepto can partner with is - facilitate test drives, pick up and drop services for annual maintenance/repairs, loan and insurance collaborations and so on. That space is pretty vacant and Zepto can make a thunderous entry there.

Does this mean Skoda will deliver cars to its dealers through Zepto ( delivery partner) or Zepto will collect cars for repairs and deliver it back to customers after repairs from the dealership?

We are a creative bunch here in this forum.

I fail to understand the economics and logistics of quick commerce in general, forget when it comes anything more than daily use goods. It remains to be seen how anything more than pickup/drop or test drives or repair facilitator services will work out. Zepto’s main commodity seems to be access to idle human resource rather than anything else.

Personally I think this dilutes the aspirational value of the Skoda brand. I wouldn't want a Kylaq test drive car to be sent to me on a Zepto flatbed trailer.

Joy and pleasure of taking delivery of your dream car or bike with your loved ones is priceless. Really not sure why even people think of losing it for some convenience. I can postpone delivery if not possible but will never miss the joy, excitement of taking delivery of my dream car or bike from the showroom. I am fortunate enough (Thanks to God) that I was able to enjoy it multiple times in last 15 years (4 times for car and 2 times for bike).

The Zepto founder had put out a tweet - they are only going to offer test drives, and not car purchases through the platform. So, it is apparently going to be - "test drive in 10 minutes"

Whether it be test drive in ten minutes or test drive for ten minutes, this is an enterprise that has a shaky base. It is not as if I wake up in the morning and feel a sudden urge to go on a test drive of Kylaq or one its siblings and cousins: an urge that I cannot control and hence it becomes an immediate and irrevocable need, needing me to summon the services of Zepto, pronto!

Other than gathering some headlines, this venture has very few cognitive outcomes.

I wonder if the idea behind this is to cover zones where showroom coverage is sparse. If so, this isn't a bad idea. I really hope they drive the car though instead of taking it on a truck - that would be rather silly!

Very true. I don't see a practical point of a test drive in 10 minutes (except for fun/impulse choices). A test drive is usually one of the decision making outcomes of a potential buyer, and it is perfectly fine if a predecided time/slot is honored by the dealership. In fact, even with groceries, I am perfectly happy getting them either same day or next day in the morning.
