Tata Motors has achieved a new production milestone with the rollout of the 5,00,000th Punch.

The Punch was launched in October 2021 and has been registering strong sales ever since. The sub-compact SUV even became the best-selling car in India in CY2024.

Tata Motors rolled out the 1,00,000th unit of the Punch within 10 months of its launch. Its production crossed the 2 lakh unit mark in 2023, following the introduction of the CNG version.

Tata rolled out the Punch.ev in January 2024, and by August, production crossed the 4 lakh unit mark. In the next 5 months, Tata Motors produced 1 lakh units of the Punch to reach the latest milestone.

The Punch is available with a 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 86.5 BHP and 115 Nm. It is paired with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT. The CNG version has 72.5 BHP and 103 Nm and comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The Punch.ev is available with a 25 kWh battery that powers a 60 kW electric motor and a 35 kWh battery pack, which comes with a 90 kW electric motor.

Re: Tata Punch crosses the 5 lakh unit production milestone

Tata crossed 6 million overall car sales since their inception and out of those 0.5m are Punch and almost 0.8m are Nexons. Combined almost 1.2m between both of them. Their popularity is just crazy

TATA motors has done their homework well and have understood the Indian market and the aspirations of the indian customers especially first time customers. The 5 star safety and choice of multiple variants and powertrain options at different price points is a big selling point. Hope TATA motors continue their momentum in 2025 and achieve many more milestones.

Re: Tata Punch crosses the 5 lakh unit production milestone

Tata Motors has come a long way from its Indica image with products like Nexon, punch, Harrier, and Safari. I still remember when TML launched the Tata Zest and Bolt and people were comparing these cars with the Indica bodyshell but that does not happen with their recent launches. With the new generational design, Tata's Indica image has washed out of people's minds.

Regarding Punch, I recently tested my friend's Punch.ev and it felt like a no-nonsense car for a perfect city run about and occasional highway drives.
With optimum battery capacity and range it makes a perfect choice as a daily driver for office commuters. As it is also available with a variety of ICE/CNG engine options, Tata has offered platters to customers.

Cherry on the top is Tata's safety commitments.

Congratulations Tata

Re: Tata Punch crosses the 5 lakh unit production milestone

A lot of people on the forum and outside attribute the Punch’s 5-star GNCAP rating as the primary reason for its stellar sales figures. While it is definitely a factor, IMO, it isn’t the main reason. Other than the crash test rating, what works for the Punch are:
  • Sturdy, SUV-like looks
  • Fantastic driving and seating position
  • Impressive feature list
  • Contrary to popular opinion, a decent engine
  • Quite spacious for its footprint
  • Excellent suspension setup
  • Largely niggle-free, despite being a Tata product
  • Decently priced
More than anything, as a package, it does really well, so much so that the Punch literally has no competition.

Re: Tata Punch crosses the 5 lakh unit production milestone

As a punch owner and one of the few early buyers literally after its launch, it ticked most of the boxes for me and many others who were looking for something similar, I was looking for a sturdy car but sub 4 meter due to constraints on parking etc. Although mileage is less compared to competition and almost passable 3 stroke engine they did not play a significant role in my decision. Maybe I was biased after seeing the swift, My father in law had just bought a swift at that time and I took it to Coorg, I must admit I feel a way lot safer in punch than a swift especially on the highways. SUV looks maybe be a bonus but the way I see it is a hatchback on steroids which goes about its daily routine without issues. The only issue is the Tata ASS, I have seen them for 3 years now and boy they have not made an attempt to improve even a zilch. For bigger and more expensive cars will I go for a TATA even though I have been happy with Punch, I doubt and the main reason is their ASS.
