Re: 4th-generation BMW X3 launched at ₹75.80 lakh

Disappointing specs considering this was the kind of power offered in the previous gen X1. X3 always had the same engine available as the 5 series and this is a clear step down.

Hope they have a plan to launch the petrol 30 or M50 later on.

The only nice feature this one seems to have is the fact that it gets sunshades on the rear windows (A glaring omission on the LWB BMW sedans)

Also odd to see the X3 on display with an EV specific e-Primacy tyre

Re: 4th-generation BMW X3 launched at ₹75.80 lakh

It doesn’t look as bad as expected. But very disappointed with the powertrains. Hope a 40i is in the cards. I guess the success of 5 series and X1 making them go more comfort focussed in India.

Seeing these specs and the price of C300 P, C200, I feel 330Li is more value for money

Re: 4th-generation BMW X3 launched at ₹75.80 lakh

EVs getting better and better, ICE cars are getting worse and worse.

Just yesterday, BMW launched the iX1 LWB with 204 BHP for 49 lakh and today they launch the 190/197 BHP X3s with roughly the same wheelbase for 76/78 lakh.

I wonder how long the *traditional customers* who *prefer ICE cars* can keep ignoring EVs.

Re: 4th-generation BMW X3 launched at ₹75.80 lakh

Ugly, underpowered and overpriced.

With extended warranty up to 6 years and BH plate, the landed on road price for my petrol GLC 300 was 79 lakh. Never thought that variant to variant, a Mercedes will be comparably priced or even cheaper AND sport a more powerful engine than its BMW counterpart.

I LOVE BMWs as well as the X3 but am so disappointed with this iteration of the car. I really hope they don’t screw up the X5 ever.

BMW has lost the plot. The car is UGLY. The powertrain is essentially the same as what it was 10-12 years ago. There are no high power engine options on offer. And the price of the car is only heading up.

The power figures are so unimpressive for a BMW. Going by international reviews, the interior quality seems a lot worse than the outgoing generation, with hard plastics in abundance and deletion of buttons in favour of the touchscreen. GLC seems a better buy any which way you look at it.

Re: 4th-generation BMW X3 launched at ₹75.80 lakh

After disappointing power figures of the X1, BMW again come with the new X3.
So now petrol engine power figures are reduced from 250 bhp to 190 bhp, now the GLC 300 is no brainer for someone looking to buy the petrol engine in this segment.

BMW calls itself a driver-oriented brand and dares to reduce the power figures of its models one by one, this way it will give more advantage to Mercedes-Benz.

Re: 4th-generation BMW X3 launched at ₹75.80 lakh

I'm paying close to 90-95 lakhs for a "BMW" and I expect a big fat grin on my face, whereas I get a 190HP, 310NM Petrol engine, which the Octavia VRS eats for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I mean, what is wrong with BMW? What are the top heads smoking?

This is when Audi seems immensely VFM to me. From choosing the BMW 3 series over cars like the Audi A8, and from being a person who literally buys anything with BMW plastered on it, as BMW = Fun, to getting converted to an Audi A4 / Q3 over even an X3, and understanding BMW = Tech (at least currently in India), I must say, BMW has come a long way indeed. Keep it up guys

Thats one Ugly Duckling! Rather save the money and get an X1 instead when they look and move so similar. Just handing it to the GLC on a platter.

Re: 4th-generation BMW X3 launched at ₹75.80 lakh

Was not impressed seeing this launch. As an alternative point of view, though Germans retain their charm but launches from Indian OEMs and others are truly impressive. The germans now can not boast leadership on future tech and engines being stand-out as compared to other mass segment cars. With Tata launching cars like Sierra, Avinya, Mahindra with 9E, 6E, Skoda with new Kodiaq, Superb 4x4, I am not sure if it is prudent to shell out near to a crore for these Germans and what additional bragging rights do they bring to the table?

Re: 4th-generation BMW X3 launched at ₹75.80 lakh

This is a huge disappointment. While we as car buyers in India are used to most global manufacturers not launching their most advanced iterations of any model in India, understandably, due to the taxes, and the resulting impact on the street prices, this specific launch is quite strange and leaves many of us petrol-heads quite flummoxed.

Despite GLC 2nd gen being in India for close to 2 years with much higher specs, it is very intriguing that BMW went with this version instead of the higher ones which are regular offerings in most of Europe and US with at least 255 Bhp even in base model.

In fact, I can not find any other country with this engine configuration across all of internet. Everywhere else both X3 and GLC are head to head in specs. In case of GLC with the latest iteration 6 months back in India (additional Airbags, Ventilated seats etc.), they have gone one refresh over already.

Perhaps BMWs inability to keep the prices within a reasonable range (and within throwing distance of GLC) is the reason to get the lower specs to India but as pointed out by many others, they are simply handing it over to GLC. The only part where specs are better are size (4 cms longer, 2 cms higher) and full ADAS2.

I seriously hope they launch the higher M versions or simply the better tuned engines over time. Or who knows if they are right. In India even X1 sells which has really pathetic engine and specs and many buy just for the brand by shelling close to 65L (in Bangalore).

See this comparison I found. Both have higher specs than what is available in India.

This part is key and that’s the confidence of BMW. X1 is selling great numbers and even 5 series (with comfort settings) is doing good by the segment (agree it will not sell as E and it will never, no matter what BMW do in 5 vs. E competition).

Now X3 in Diesel guise has similar engine configurations to GLC. And most of the X3 that I see are in diesel and most likely will be the case too. Also most people these days like bold and flamboyant design which makes X3 appealing to those customers.

I will be happy to prove wrong, but I am sure X3 will bring in good numbers for BMW.

However, I would really like to understand the reason for de-tuning petrol engine. It’s not that it’s a low powered engine (like Merc C200) but just low power output (understand some hardware changes too). Is it really to keep the cost down or indeed to meet some CAFE norms?

Re: 4th-generation BMW X3 launched at ₹75.80 lakh

Suspect BMW is struggling to meet CAFE norms. Can’t think of any other reason for them to launch the petrol X3 20 instead of the X3 30. When they sold petrols in the 2nd generation F25 X3, it was with the 28i. And in the third generation it was the 30i. And both have sold good numbers.

Frankly even the 3 series petrol is the 330 Li. So this is a very strange decision indeed.
