Re: 4th-generation BMW X3 launched at ₹75.80 lakh

My Humble 2.0 TSI Octavia will most likely be faster than both the petrol and diesel versions of the X3, Octavia is a 38 lakh rupee car vs 90 odd lakh for the Bimmer, Quality wise as well, Octavia is almost there with the X3, only saving grace for the BMW being rear wheel drive biased AWD powertrain. BMW needs to sort its CAFE issues and be more realistic with its powertrains, on one side there is the M340i with the amazing engine being offered at a decent value and on the other side run of the mill models are detuned to an extent where regular Hyundai's, Tata EVs of the world can out run them.

Re: 4th-generation BMW X3 launched at ₹75.80 lakh

Many a times, in order to win the rat race, we compromise on our ethos and change ourselves to something we are not. All the uniqueness is lost and what was once our strength is now blah.

In order to get better numbers (and meet the emission requirements) BMW seems to be loosing the plot. The sheer driving brilliance that put them on the global map, is now being replaced. They might get the numbers, but they are loosing the love and faith, every BMW enthusiast had for them. Sad day. Indeed.

My Thar Roxx MX3 Petrol AT delivers 175 HP and 380NM (23% more torque, only 8% less power), more rear leg space, more road presence - All for less than one-fifth of the price of this BMW (18 lakhs on-road Chennai versus 95 lakhs for the BMW)

You're not wrong and not alone either, I have the same thought and as it has been said here countless time - we are a very small tribe when it comes to powerful engines and good drivetrains. Most of the target audience who are going to buy this will never care how much power it makes, also as a 20d owner - I feel the power is more than adequate in India. People love the bling and big screens like crazy in India so it has that going for it.

BMW has seen this with X1 and has ZERO issues making fat profits with these configurations and watered down cars.

Absolutely horrible design, especially the front grill and headlight cluster. Even the door handles look sad. The previous gen X3 was really smart looking, I must say! Looks like BMW designers have started getting cues from the Head of M&M Automotive designers. He exactly knows how to convert a good-looking car to a polarizing persona

Exactly my thought. The kodiaq comes with 190 HP, 320 nm torque, 7 speed DSG and 0-100 in 7.8 seconds. It also has very good handling, Dynamic chassis control (Adaptive suspension). Plus it can be a 7 seater on occasion. Now it also has ADAS 2 in the newer version. Length will be equal to X3. So apart from the badge and the large center display, what will be the advantages of X3 to command steep pricing.

That's the ugliest thing I've seen in a long time.

BMW India is relying on the design being grown on us like that of the new generation X1 or for that matter the infamous new generation M5. BMW is just handing over their customers to Mercedes just because of their appalling design language.

Quality vs Quantity- extremely dependent on person-to-person. There is no match on how both will drive irrespective of the specifications on paper. Mahindra is light years behind if I have to be honest as far as handling is concerned.

Within BMW, an X5 with current discounts will be a better product and more VFM.

Of course, I was just being sarcastic, specifically about the low power output of the petrol mill on the new X3.

I drove the current generation (now previous generation with this launch) X3 with the same 2.0 turbo in the 20i tune on the German Autobahn last year. It is fine for general city use and on slow moving highway traffic, quite smooth and noiseless. But is quite sluggish beyond 120 kph. I had to strain to get the engine to go faster, which it does with some reluctance. We did hit 200 kph once, but it took a very long time. This is especially evident as speed restrictions disappear for short stretches of the Autobahn and one needs to speed up quickly to enjoy high speed driving before restrictions come back on. It was a far cry from the 30i tune I had in my G30 5-series. The X3 deserves at least the 30i tune if not the full blown 6 cylinder B58 in the M50 guise. I do hope BMW launch that car soon at a reasonable price point.

Another aspect I do not like about the new X1 and X3 is that their body lines are over-simplified now. Look from a distance, and there is none of that distinguished presence that German Luxury cars generally exude. You can tell a current gen X3 or X5 from a long distance, even in low light, as they stand out with their solid presence, well designed cut and creases. From a distance, the new X1 looks like a Hyundai or a Kia. I think this is down to fact the BMW has opted for very few body lines and curves on these newer X cars to keep upfront as well as ongoing repair costs low. . The purposeful bulges, the Dynamic corners and sharp crease lines are all gone. Even the paint quality on the new gen X1s looks mediocre.

Mod Note: Our 2025 BMW X3 Review has been taken live at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!
