Re: Ertiga & XL6 (combined) make for the best-selling Maruti of 2024 | WagonR in the next spot

The Ertiga has always been a no nonsense buy, it's a head over heart type of decision.

It's nowhere near the word "exciting" but it does everything that a big family could ask for.

+ For personal use only
+ Top variant in Petrol if the average monthly run does not justify additional upfront investment for CNG variants & if there is no requirement of an Automatic transmission, and you are ok with the weird boot space scenario due to the CNG bottle placement (wish Maruti also implemented "double cylinder cng" configuration like that of Tata)
+ Gujarat onroad budget : 15L (Manual), 17L (Automatic)
+ Would like to see how many units of Kia Carens are sold in upto 17L onroad Gujarat budget

With above points in consideration I wonder why would one prefer Carens over XL6 under 17L budget?
(My assumption is that Carens would be outselling XL6 in upto 17L onroad Gujarat budget)

Fyip I own XL6 Alpha+ MT 2023 variant.

In my previous post, I highlighted atleast 4 features which are not present in any variant of Ertiga. However, seems like you are still stuck with 7 seats vs 6 seats as the only differentiation between the two.

Let Maruti release XL7 and leave the choice to consumers. If I were Maruti boss, it wouldn't matter if a prospective Ertiga customer buys XL7 as long as they don't go for Carens which is the only direct rival.

I think Carens makes sense if-
1. someone wants diesel
2. anyone perceives Kia brand is more premium than Maruti and doesn't care about mileage or has low running
3. someone wants a premium 7 seater since Ertiga is so common on road

For all other cases, XL6 offers almost everything that Carens has at almost 4L less (top variant to top variant). Some people say Carens mid-variant is equivalent to XL6 top- it isn't. XL6 top has ventilated seats, UV cut windows, 6 speed TC (so no reliability concerns vs Carens' DCT) and great mileage

Call maruti any sort of names for their light build quality, thin metal sheet, safety, 2 star NCAP etc., but at present maruti year on year keeps selling in large numbers without any pause. Maruti's success is built on their present product line being modern, new model launches every year, product facelifts and ofcourse the age old reliability of maruti cars and easy availability of spares.

OT: They should now concentrate on developing hybrid cars and they will be good to go for next 10 years.

Unfortunately for us, due to the success of Ertiga/XL6, MS is not under pressure to improve the safety. New Dzire and now Brezza have come with six airbags as standard because they are in segments with very high competetion. With Ertiga/XL6 the max we get is 4 airbags only in the top variant.

6 airbags is in pipeline for all models of Suzuki in India as per my sources. Let's wait and watch.
