Yeah I am aware of that, but if you look at the real value of both of these cars, it's very wrongly priced in India, being a CBU doesn't make a hell a lot of a difference than a CKD for which someone has to pay more to get a hatchback than paying less to get a mid sized SUV.

I asked a similar question here a few weeks back. The folks over here are of the opinion that these cars won't sell much in India so these will always be imported as CBU. My argument was that if priced right and the product is good (which it is as evident from the excitement) it would sell.

Since, people think these cars won't sell much, they are imported as CBU and that's why they don't sell much. Hope you see the problem here.

Also to keep the point in mind that Volkswagen India doesn't have those many guts to bring these kind of cars in India by looking at an average Indian car buyer taste, so they just bring limited models to India as CBU and try their luck to sell them off and create a hype between people like us. I've heard that VW won't be bringing more than 2500 units of this car.

Which is the limit for CBU imports without homologation.

250 cars expected; there are limits to CBU import quantities.

As far as I know, it is restricted to 2,500 units of RHD CBUs (M1 or L category) per legal entity per financial year.

This would apply to the (now merged) entity 'Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited'. The 250 units is purely an internal decision in my opinion.

Audi India operates as Audi India Private Limited, hence they have their own 2,500 unit limit separately I guess.

Will the price of the cars be sensible considering the tariff wars between India and US? I know these cars will come somewhere from EU, but its a fair ask.

This has been long overdue. With such rich heritage, I’m surprised VAG is not trying harder to cater to that image and brand value.

These products will definitely increase the aspirational quotient of the brand.

CBUs and CKDs are a good route to ensure customer engagement with considerably less investment.
