Tata Punch is the No.1 selling car of 2024

Tata Motors PUNCH becomes No.1 seller in 2024.

According to The Economic Times Report, Tata Motors entry level SUV, climbed six positions to become the no.1 car of the year, overtaking Wagon R, Swift, Creta and other cars.

The Micro SUV clocked a compounded annual growth of over 73% from 2021.

Among other factors, Tata Motors strategy of offering of variety of variants and models is said to have played a key role. Punch variants include EV, CNG, and Petrol all with MT /AT options.

Tata Motors is likely to close the year with an expected sale of 20100 units of Punch, ahead of other models like WagonR, Creta, Brezza, Swift etc.
Model wise sale of cars /SUVs during 2024 is given below:

Models Volume in Units

Punch 200678
Wagon R 187200
Creta 183782
Ertiga 183762
Brezza 183718
Baleno 176696
Scorpio 159091
Fronx 159068
Nexon 156770

Tata Nexon slipped to 10th position from the previous year's 5th position due to intense competition from other SUVs like Creta, Fronx etc.

They need to launch the diesel Punch with the 89bhp unit used in the Altroz.

If that happens, would literally be

Tata Punch is the No.1 selling car of 2024-punch-d.jpg

Ofcourse. TATA would just show the sales figures of the Altroz diesel and then point to the Punch EV. Case closed.

In my opinion, the Tata Punch was a deserving candidate to end the year as the number one seller. It remained at the top for most of the year, and it was only a few months ago that it fell behind others. It ticks most of the boxes for the average customer and offers a well rounded package.

The Tata Punch only misses out on a diesel engine, as many BHPians have pointed out. If it is introduced, I am sure it will boost sales even further.

Re: Tata Punch is the No.1 selling car of 2024

The lack of the CNG option really did hurt Nexon's sales figure throughout this year(except the last part). But with iCNG really getting rave reviews, it should be back with a bang to its numero uno position, the next year. Till then it's very heartening to see two Tata small SUVs in top 10 cars sold list for 2024(despite so much online criticism)

The online criticism is not unwarranted! My cousin owns a 2022 Altroz and despite being driven just 8k on odometer, its door pads have already started squeaking. Moreover there are some parts on the dashboard which are just very ill-fitted, and the engine vibrations have also become much louder than what they were when the car was brand new. My 9 year old City and 10 year old Dzire, both of which are supposedly the degraded Japanese cars, have not yet developed a single squeak despite being driven over 1 lakh km, and even our 2011 Alto K10 was more refined than the Tata.

That said I still consider my cousin to be lucky despite all these niggles because there have been cases with Tata Motors cars where brand new cars have had engine/electrical failures, and these issues are in a large number of cars.

So yeah, this success of Tata cars is something I don't like at all! How can a brand get so successful and yet doesn't want an effort to make the customer's lives easier and calmer is beyond me! Utter shamelessness in my opinion, no offence to those who adore or own their cars.

These numbers for Punch are even more noteworthy if we consider that are no yellow board sales in this, on the contrary to the Maruti offerings like Wagon R, Dzire, Ertiga.

Plus the fact the number of Punch sales directly correspond to lesser number of the top manufacturers cheap tin cans on Indian roads!

Noticed there is already a thread on this similar topic.

It might be helpful to refer to that discussion for more insights, just a thought. Thanks

No offence taken bro. For every bad experience, there are multiple good experiences too. I have Tata cars in my family for the last 17 years and thankfully all have been trouble free till date. Plus the kind of ride quality, comfort and the feel of safety Tata cars exude is missing in the competition especially Suzuki.

If TML can sort out all the QC issues, then every other OEM especially Suzuki are in for a nice surprise

Re: Tata Punch is the No.1 selling car of 2024

I believe this is the first time in my lifetime (being born in the year that the 800 came out!) that a highest selling car title has moved away from Maruti Suzuki, sales accumulated for a full year.

With due credit to TATA Punch, this also reflects on a drastic fall of MSIL - the company has lost almost 15% marketshare in the last two years, witnessed a sales crash in the urban areas and lost its biggest strength - the ability to get new customers en-masse in the entry level segments (Tiago sells almost as much Celerio and SPresso combined, Alto is just a shade of what it once was!). The achievement of TATA Punch is even more noteworthy when you consider that the playing field was not even fair - Maruti having multiple times a larger coverage with NEXA, Arena and Commercial networks.

The brand you defend is the most successful one in India - and was shamelessly happy to let their customers suffer for their own safety and lives till a drastic marketshare drop made them take a U-turn with the new DZire last month.

Re: Tata Punch is the No.1 selling car of 2024

When the Punch was launched there was lot of criticism in Team BHP that the Punch lacked the 'Punch'. But look who is laughing all the way to the bank now! The Punch is an ideal car as a city runabout and if someone wants a highway Punch they could always go and get the Altroz which packs a decent 'Punch'.

Well done to TML and let's hope TML address the Elephant in the room which is their substandard customer service and QC issues.

Re: Tata Punch is the No.1 selling car of 2024

Any car that sells well has been accepted by the market and is a well designed car, be it a TATA or a Mahindra or a Suzuki.PERIOD. Citing terms and conditions and caveats/snide criticisms is just an effort to demean a product. It's pointless. The numbers that Punch sells is undebatable. Congratulations to TATA Motors on being Numero Uno.

The road ahead will be interesting as TATA Motors as a company is no longer in the ascendancy. The new flavour is Mahindra. All the kudos that earlier used to go exclusively to TATA is now being more or less hogged by Mahindra. With the BE twins, auddenly Mahindra is the Tech savy company that ia daring Tesla to compete. How TATA responds with the Sierra and Avinya will be worth watching. This will also ensure that Halo effect on sales of other stable cars as well.

Re: Tata Punch is the No.1 selling car of 2024

Tata Punch selling on top is testament to the Indian desire for VFM. Maruti was the king of the roads because of the VFM perception, Punch went one step better with a safe VFM option. Kudos to Tata, they are on the right path but as it is said there are miles to go. I am a happy Tata user with my third car back to back and despite minor irritants they have served me well.

BS6 Tata diesel cars like Altroz seem to have poor reliability. Many Altroz owners were reporting issues with DPF regeneration or seeing check engine light all of a sudden. Then, the CNG option is what budget conscious folks go for. Diesel won't see many takers. I researched this option in Altroz, and found nothing but many comments from unhappy owners.

A turbo petrol version would be nice though like the Altroz racer as Punch is not punchy on the highway at all. I took a test drive and it is not at all good in punchiness or handling. It is the most boring car I've driven. Anyways, I think Tata knows how to cater the mass market buyers.
