Re: Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyrder is the best-selling rebadged Maruti

For the strong hybrid variant, isn't the Grand Vitara considered to be the rebadged Urban Cruiser Hyryder?

I know the underlying platform is provided by Maruti, but I always thought that the Hyryder hybrid was more a Toyota car built to Maruti standards, than the other way around.

That is why, GV-Hyryder are not "rebadged" cars per se, but rather a JV (Joint venture) between Maruti and Toyota.

Key differentiator between GV-Hyryder twins compared to other true rebadged Maruti's like Baleno/Glanza is the fact that the strong hybrid engine is provided by Toyota, whereas the mild hybrid engine, ISG and rest of the car chassis and body is provided by Maruti Suzuki. And, both the Grand Vitara and Hyryder are manufactured in Toyota India's Karnataka Bidadi plant.

Re: Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyrder is the best-selling rebadged Maruti

It is a win win situation for both maruti suzuki and toyota. They save on product development & other costs by sharing their car models with each other. The Hyryder & GV are the most different looking cars in this rebadged portfolio of both companies, with fronx and taisor also looking different. However all the remaining models including Hycross, Invicto, Baleno, Glanza, Ertiga, Rumion end up looking quite similar with each other.

Are there any year end discounts on this vehicle? Any feedback for dealers in Bangalore is welcome. Thank you.

Please. Maruti and Toyota, take this as a sign and develop more proper jointly developed cars than slapping on a badge and few plastics and calling it a day.

Re: Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyrder is the best-selling rebadged Maruti

"Rebadged" is a clear misnomer here and an insult to Toyota. Unlike Urban Cruiser (Brezza), Glanza (Baleno), and Rumion (Ertiga), Hyryder and GV were built (jointly) grounds up with Toyota playing lead role where it mattered more while using parts sourced for/by Maruti to maintain cost under control.

Toyota launched both the versions in July-August 2022 while MSL launched its avatars in September-October 2022.

Now tell me - it is rebadged Toyota or rebadged Maruti...

I think both companies would do much better if they synergise to develop a joint platform and build cars from ground-up, rather than just slapping each other's badges on respective cars and selling them. Each company should leverage their strengths; this would create a powerful proposition for the Indian market.

Re: Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyrder is the best-selling rebadged Maruti

Toyota first rebadged Maruti Baleno as Glanza and then Maruti Brezza as Urban Cruiser. Both these cars had few exterior elements changed by Toyota and everything else was same as Maruti including interiors elements and fit and finish.
This is the tipping point where people started to perceive Toyota rebadges Maruti products and sells them under different name.

Toyota launches Urban Cruiser Hyryder and later when Maruti launches Grand Vitara, the perception from unconscious mind is taking over and makes general customer feel that Hyryder is again a rebadged Maruti, when in fact it is not.

Renault India and Nissan India used to something similar sometime back. The platform and engines remained the same. The exterior body and interiors were different for the cars, which gave them their own identity both from inside and outside. The reuse of platform is staying within the same parent company, as Nissan owns Renault. Even Skoda and VW do the same thing for their 2.0 products.

Hyryder and Grand Vitara is a true collaboration of two big giants (Maruti and Toyota), as rightly pointed in above comments from @Small Bot, @DCEite and @mack.mehul. It is commendable that both Maruti and Toyota collaborated together to build a product, when these 2 companies do not have a common parent company. Toyota owns some stake in Suzuki, so there could be hidden/indirect revenue which Toyota gains with this.

I wish Toyota changes interior elements and provides better interior quality parts in Hyryder to the owner feel they are not sitting inside a Maruti. This could boost sale of mild-hybrid Hyryder which do not sell much under Toyota brand.

Re: Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyrder is the best-selling rebadged Maruti

GV & Hyryder should not be called 'rebadged', as they are the first truly jointly developed product(s) of the Toyota - Suzuki alliance. Suzuki's Global - C platform + Toyota's hybrid powertrain and manufactured by Toyota at their plant. Rest all models Glanza, Rumion, Taisor, Invicto, Belta (Ciaz), Vitz (Celerio), Across (RAV4), Swace (Corolla Estate) are just that - rebadged.
