Kia Seltos Hybrid:

A new prototype was caught inside a parking lot showing a sticker that said “SP3 HEV”. SP3 is the project name and HEV is well, Hybrid Electric Vehicle.
This move aims to address the temporary demand stagnation in electric vehicles while meeting the rapidly increasing demand for hybrid cars. The hybrid model will be based on the completely modified Seltos (known internally as SP3), with mass production scheduled for August next year at Kia Autoland Gwangju Factory.
This is the first time this model will feature a hybrid system that combines a gasoline engine with an electric motor. Since its debut in 2019, the Seltos has been available in gasoline and diesel variants, but due to decreasing diesel demand, only gasoline models have been sold recently. The introduction of the hybrid system is a significant upgrade, enhancing both the vehicle’s performance and its appeal to environmentally conscious consumers.

So, Kia too joins the stupid trend started by their cousin Hyundai of skipping the fog lamps in their cars.

They've already started this with the Syros. So it's pretty clear that the future models too will be devoid of these.

Especially after the unveiling of "SYROS", my expectations only went high in next gen "SELTOS" in terms of gizmos and interior ambience.

Korean's are seriously gonna set a benchmark in the compact and mid size SUV segments in the coming days, which'll give sleepless nights for any other OEMs.

Kia has to give below features to new Seltos as Syros already has them and Seltos is more premium car in Kia lineup as compared to Syros.

1. Sliding rear seat
2. More recline angle support in rear bench
3. Both front and rear ventilated seats
4. Trinity display

If you go to see, this rear ventilated seats is more of a marketing kinda gimmick to boast about ‘segment-first’ feature. As per the brochure the ventilation is limited to only the seat base and not the back. I wonder how effective this will be.

Looks pretty nice. However I am waiting for the crash ratings for the latest Kia offering,

And with this a mid-size SUV segment will move from the 20-25 Lac bracket to the 30 lac bracket.

This looks strikingly similar to the recently launched Syros for the parts below.

• The center armrest
• Automatic gear knob
• The interior color combination
• The rear seat overall look along with 3 headrests

The interior of Sonet and Seltos look and feel completely different in the current 2024 model. I wish Kia keeps the interiors different between Seltos and Syros and does not follow what Tata did with Nexon and Curvv interiors where majority of Curvv interior feels like sitting inside a Nexon.

Unfortunately, Seltos is jumping segment into 20+L for most variants. They have introduced the Syros to fill the gap created when Seltos moves to upper price bracket.

It is highly unlikely that a Hybrid with ADAS and all other gizmos can be priced within 20Lacs.

Seltos is currently struggling to keep up with the rest in the segment. It’s clocking an average of 5.5k units a month with all the tech and bling. I wonder how the masses will receive this once it crosses the 25 L mark.

What will be it’s value proposition vis a vis the likes of XUV700 , Scorpio N , etc.?

I’m waiting to see how the Syros fares, of course it all depends on the pricing. But given Kia’s pricing strategy, they will initially price it at a premium of ~ 1 L above the Sonet variants and then rake it up to 1.5 L by the time it completes a year!

I doubt Kia will provide all rear seat creature comforts for the Seltos as there would be no distinguishing factor between Seltos and Syros in that case.

This rendering is based on the latest pictures of the SP3 project name, where SP stands for the model (Seltos) and the 3 is the generation. Why we said 2 generation Seltos but the project name is SP3? Easy, Kia also takes into account the first gen that was launched as KX3 and available only in China.

The eagerly anticipated Hybrid variant of the Seltos is part of Kia’s strategic plan to electrify its lineup across all five types of SUVs and leisure vehicles (RVs) sold in Korea. This move aims to address the temporary demand stagnation in electric vehicles while meeting the rapidly increasing demand for hybrid cars. Specifications and Performance

The new Seltos will be available in two models: gasoline and hybrid. The Hybrid model is expected to feature a 141 horsepower 1.6-liter hybrid system, similar to that used in Hyundai’s Kona Hybrid or the proper Kia Niro. From our point of view, it is easy to see this as a competition to Hyundai’s Kona, but with the Niro in the line-up which is only 35mm larger than the current Seltos, it’s hard to understand this movement and how it could cannibalize each other.

Additionally, Kia is developing a dedicated electronic all-time four-wheel drive (E-AWD) system for the Seltos Hybrid. This system is particularly aimed at the European market, where there is a strong preference for four-wheel drive vehicles. The E-AWD system is expected to deliver superior driving performance compared to existing systems, enhancing the Seltos Hybrid’s appeal in markets with diverse driving conditions.

Kia’s introduction of the Seltos Hybrid marks a significant milestone in the company’s journey towards electrification but left opens a big question regarding a posible cannibalization on its own line-up.

IIRC, LED headlights were introduced to make the 'eyes' of the car smaller and sleeker. What is the trend of making headlights massive? It would be better if we all went back to halogens with good visibility and smaller repair bills.
