Re: November 2024 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

1. Windsor is doing wonders for MG, make no mistake it can become highest selling ev very soon.
2. Is it a game over for Citroen and Jeep?
3. Honda Amaze surprised me, even after knowing new Amaze is around the corner, people went ahead and purchased 2628 cars?
4. I'm eagerly waiting to see Kylaq's impact on Skoda's numbers. In my pov, it is priced slightly higher than it deserves.
5. As usual Toyota is making a feast with Maruti cars.
6. Kia is able to sell 200+ Carnivals at 80 lacs price tag? or is Kia clearing up old stocks?

Re: November 2024 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

225 is a good number for Kodiaq although it might be due to 5L discount offered by Skoda and also as it is approaching end of life. Has anyone got any idea if they still have some leftover stock for current gen Kodiaq and maybe they will launch one more sale with higher discount.

Re: November 2024 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Something is not right with XUV 3x0 numbers. It was selling 9k - 9.5k every month for last 6 months, suddenly dropped to 7.5k this month. This despite Mahindra having huge bookings and close to 1 year waiting period for certain variants. Does Mahindra really has so much bookings or its a sham? Any thoughts?

Re: November 2024 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

I think Jimny has reached a sweet spot for domestic sales at 1K and an export number at 6K. That is a total of 7K for a pocket rocket in spite of all the negative feedback. Export being 6 times domestic sales has a lot of deeper meaning to it. It can be looked into 2 ways. India being one of the largest markets would have its own say and automotive makers must respect its sentiments like butch looking SUVs preferred over smaller dimensions, diesel preferred over petrol, turbo preferred over NA, RWD preferred over 4X4 for a BOF vehicle. The other way to look at it is that we are not yet ready for a lifestyle vehicle as a 2nd car in garage.

Just checked yesterday and they still have stocks at the factory and the dealer mentioned they continue to give the 5L discount.

With few more days left to clear VIN23 stocks, else in 2025, perception will be a 2 year old product, Skoda may throw one final surprise online with may be more than 5L

Re: November 2024 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Toyota completely dominating D-1 segment for the most part and decimated others in the D-2 segment explains their net +ve y-o-y growth. MG riding the Windsor wave and Tata dealing with software glitches and other quality control issues in their products leading to overall -ve y-o-y growth. Barring festival period, demand seems muted in the rest of the period. Hence, overloaded inventory and discounts. Customer remains the king, for now at the least.

Re: November 2024 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

These sales numbers would be interesting to see once CAFE-3 norms are notified for 2027 to 2032 period. With a target CO2 Emission value of 70g/km or so, selling big vehicles is going to get difficult without an fuel economical power train. I had been hoping and praying for the Dirty Diesels for so long but OEMs keep finding out new ways to beat/meet the rules. Imagine if some one like me would be in MoRTH and passing diktats like Diesels are banned!! We should just let technologies jostle amongst each other and let the customer decide which tech comes out on top based on all factors considered, of course rules of the game have to be consistent and known in advance.

Re: November 2024 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

After looking at I20 and Altroz numbers I agreed with what everyone has been saying it for months on monthly analysis thread that hatchbacks are on their way out. Then I noticed that Baleno is on the top
So hatchbacks are still selling, it is just Suzuki that is giving what customer wants. Am also considering Fronxx as hatchback so the numbers are even more impressive. Even swift is selling in high numbers but I10, Tiago isn't.

The problem with the hatchback segment is that premium ones are getting too expensive and the entry level are just not desirable. I think MSIL has somehow managed to balance both the price and fit-finish-feature set.

We are looking for a city run about small car.

We checked Creta and i20. After sitting in the Creta, my wife felt i20 was a let down in terms of interiors, fit and finish.

Then we walked in to Nexa, saw the GV and Baleno. My wife ended up finding Baleno far more acceptable. For some reason, to her, the interiors of Baleno weren't such a downgrade from GV and more acceptable than I20.

And price wise, MSIL cars too are getting expensive but not run away expensive as Hyundai.

I doubt hatchbacks will go away. With most major cities being congested, small cars always make sense. It's just that the recent craze for compact SUVs has literally stolen the sales of hatchbacks and sedans. No wonder manufacturers are now coming up with beefed-up hatchbacks like the Punch.

Maruti still has multiple options in the hatchback segment, and its sales reflect the same.

In the case of Hyundai, their hatchbacks have become very expensive in my opinion. The top-end i20 almost overlaps with Venue prices, and people might be selecting the Venue even though they enter the showroom to check out the i20.

In the case of Tata, their hatchbacks Tiago and Altroz get step-brotherly treatment in my opinion. Walk into a Tata showroom, and most likely you will have to find out if the Tiago or Altroz are on display or not.

Re: November 2024 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Good to see Hyundai, Tata and Mahindra at position 2,3,4 fighting neck to neck for market share and very little to segregate them in terms of market share. Now, Maruti has 40 percent market share and 2,3,4 combined together have roughly same share and leave the rest of the market to others. This distribution seems encouraging.

Thar joins that top 20 list with Roxx and my guess is numbers will improve in coming months. In spite of third position, Mahindra has 4 models in top 20 and 3 of them are 15 - 20 lakh category which augers quite well for them. Once their electric car line up goes commercial, they will dent the EV numbers of other players. Time to invest in Mahindra stock?

The Nissan Magnite's numbers have fallen back to their original state before the facelift. It doesn't look like the facelift did any good for Nissan even though the updates in the facelift were decently substantial. The October sales showed a decent spike but now it has settled back to its original numbers. It is possible that the news about Nissan's financial troubled may have affected it's current sales. It seems, there's a very small percentage of Indians that see value in the Magnite as a product or just don't trust it enough to put their money into it.
Facelifted Magnite is such an excellent VFM product. The momentum fizzled out within a week of the launch. I blame their ineffective marketing team. Nissan's recent global problems made it worse for Nissan. Patchy sales and servicing network is just the icing on the cake.

It'll take a monumental effort for Nissan to succeed both in India and global market. If it does then its one heck of a comeback story. End of rant by Nissan Kicks owner.

So, what’s going on? Is Toyota’s Hycross stealing the spotlight, or has Maruti stumbled in an unfamiliar segment?
Most of the answers have been mentioned in your post. Toyota combines Hycross and Crysta numbers, so that's one way to increase on-paper sales. Secondly, both the Toyota and Innova badge has a HUGE following, while the Invicto is a new badge and Maruti, at the end of the day, is not known for making expensive cars. A 30 lakh Maruti is, in most people's eyes, very different from a 30 lakh Toyota (even when they're the same car). Hope this helps!

I am surprised too, albeit for diff reasons. My XUV 3XO AX5L AT in Nebula blue is yet to be delivered despite booking long back on 22 May. They are knowingly producing 3XO in lower numbers.

Re: November 2024 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Off late I see a lot of Kodiaq in Bangalore and not surprising looking at the numbers.

On another note, right time to buy some of the non-hot segments (by sales). Virtus, Slavia, Verna 1.5 all selling around 1 lakh discounts
