Can't say for sure that ICE is on its way out. If the Li-Ion tech becomes impractical and ICE gets a revival, Euro #7 gasoline engines paired with hybrid tech may make a revisit in the market place. So while it is fair to assume that 'Diesel Motors' are running it's last lap, same may not be the case with Gasoline. So any manufacturer who lets their guard down on Gasoline may very well be in for some nasty surprises from the market.

The design team at Tata Motors has made a few changes to the original concept, though. The thick B-pillar has been replaced with a simpler design. The car retains the squared-off wheel arches and clean lines.
If this is really true, it is a very good correction done by Tata. The thick pillars no matter what designers were trying to sell was a hindrence from visibility perspective. Made the rear window smaller. The slimmer B pillar looks more elegant and non abstract.

Tata - Hope you are thinking about rear sliding and reclining seats.

Re: Tata Sierra returning in 2025 in EV and ICE flavours

Our friendly neighbourhood Autospy caught up with the upcoming Tata Sierra test mule on the streets of Pune today.

Autospy claims that the front half is similar in size to the Punch while the rear half is longer.

It was accompanied by a Tata Harrier test mule.

Tata Sierra spied testing again,

the spy shots reveal front, side and rear design elements of the Sierra including the headlights, tail lights, flush door handles and alloy wheels
Quote:
Air intake channels in the front bumper were also noticeable in the latest set of spy images. Moreover, an advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) sensor was also seen on the windshield.
Quote:
The C-pillar was heavily camouflaged, possibly concealing the iconic alpine windows, a staple of the original Sierra.
Quote:
the tail lights were partially visible and they appeared to be connected by a light bar. Additionally, a rear wiper was also spotted, which could be integrated below the spoiler like the Tata Nexon for a cleaner look

Re: Tata Sierra returning in 2025 in EV and ICE flavours

It seems like the Sierra EV version will be larger in size than the Sierra ICE version.

Our neighbourhood AutoSpy caught up with the Sierra test mule and remarked that this one was considerably bigger (almost Harrier-sized) than the one he came across a few days back, but the shape and silhouette matched the Sierra. We are both guessing that it might be the EV version.

This test mule was accompanied by both - a camouflaged Harrier test mule and an uncamouflaged one.

So they are benchmarking Sierra EV with Harrier EV?

Re: Tata Sierra returning in 2025 in EV and ICE flavours

I believe it is more due to the angles of photography. If you compare these pics with the one Volkman has posted previously and from the one inside the Polo/Vento the size seems similar to the ones from the Expo. Also the registration number is the same.

It is highly unlikely that Tata would have designed a longer wheelbase model and test it within this short span.

Re: Tata Sierra returning in 2025 in EV and ICE flavours

What would be the engine on the lower variants on Sierra? Will it go the Skoda way of offering two turbo engines or the Creta way of offering an NA and a turbo engine?

Can the 1.5GDi Turbo have an naturally aspirated variant too? Do GDi engines come in NA form?

If so, it might definitely be the lounge version that was showcased at the 2023 expo.

This is the version I'm eagerly waiting for.. We hope you don't disappoint us this time, TATA.

They don't need to. Look at the Harrier siblings with the same wheelbase.

Ofcourse there is. It is just that most of the turbo petrols sold in India are downsized ones, and they tend to go for latest tech, which includes GDi. GDi has been offered in naturally aspirated engines globally for ages, just that in India, we started getting it alongwith turbo petrols. Must be one of the German big three who must have launched a direct injection petrol engine in India first, though am pretty sure that the fluidic era Sonata sold in India had GDi without turbo.

That said, hope they give the highest spec in the Harrier/Safari. They are already handicapped with a 500cc deficit in the first place. Also they should offer the 1.5l (turbo or NA) in the Curvv instead of the 3 pot.

They definitely need to launch a variant with the lounge seating. Would be a big differentiator.

My view is that they will go Skoda/VW way. 1.2 Tgdi with MT/DCA in lower and mid variants and 1.5 Tgdi with MT/DCA in top variants. In that way, Sierra can be positioned above Curvv in the segment.

With respect to Diesel powertrain, I believe they will plonk 1.5 Kryojet instead of FCA sourced engine to position it below Harrier in terms of pricing.

In picture, it does feel longer. I am not sure if it is because of the angle or in reality.

Or is it that Tata is planning a Sierra family - 5 seater, lounge seater and a 7 seater with varying wheelbase?

Re: Tata Sierra returning in 2025 in EV and ICE flavours

The Curvv Hyperion 1.2, presently, starts from the Creative S variant at 14.16 lakhs. The Creative S Revotron 1.2 starts at 12.87. That's a premium of 1.29 lakhs for the Hyperion GDi engine.

If I add the same premium to Curvv's cheaper variants, then
  • Curvv Smart GDi should be assumed at 11.28 lakhs (9.99 + 1.29).
  • Curvv Pure GDi should be 12.46 lakhs (11.17 + 1.29).

Now based on these prices, the Curvv GDi 1.2 price ranges from 11.3 to 19.2 lakhs.

The Harrier base variant starts at 15 lakhs. And it's a diesel.

If we assume that Sierra will sit in between the Curvv and the Harrier:
  • Sierra Smart 1.2 GDi should be somewhere between 11.5 to 12.5 lakhs.
  • Sierra 1.5 GDi, at an even more premium, should be 12.5 to 14 lakhs for the base Smart variant.
  • And the range should easily cross 20-22 lakhs for the top variants.
