re: Rumour: Hyundai Verna likely to get a diesel engine

With the way Verna sales are trailing behind VAG twins, Hyundai need to do something to get their Verna sales more. And I think it’s a logical move too. They already have a 1.5 diesel in the segment for Creta, why not plonk it in Verna and meet the customer base who want a diesel sedan?

Checked the title of the thread.

Double checked the title of the thread.

Checked the date of the post.

Double checked the date of the post. Pinched myself.

Checked the source website. Looks a bit phony. Back to reality.

Always wondered why Hyundai stopped diesel in the i20 and Verna, when the Venue and Creta continue to have diesels. A diesel automatic Verna would be a dream nowadays. Thought most likely it is going to stay as a dream. Have to wait for some credible sources.

The website guy is a known of mine and he doesn't really look the type to do clickbait articles! So hopefully this is true. And in case it is, Verna sales are definitely going to increase! Especially with an AT, it is going to be a great sales booster.

Late next year? Wouldn't that be too long? Or is Hyundai coming up with a facelift? I was thinking it will be launched early next year until I read the article.

Yup! They probably didn't have another choice - need something heavy at the front to offset the weight gain due to that monstrosity of a rear spoiler that they added recently

re: Rumour: Hyundai Verna likely to get a diesel engine

I guess that would make sense considering there's no other sedan with a diesel engine right now. While they're at it, why not an N-Line Verna? I'm guessing the i20 N-Line has been quite a success considering the number of them I spot on the road. A sweet handling Verna could take some customers away from the Virtus.

The only thing Hyundai needs to do is fix the looks. That's probably where people are polarized.

re: Rumour: Hyundai Verna likely to get a diesel engine

Will be a good move , they should have continued with verna diesel as previous generation did good numbers due to excellent performance and fuel efficiency of Hyundai's CRDI unit. Even if this news turns out to be true, they should 1st launch N line variant with a new N line steering, new color shades, new alloys etc in 1.5 litre turbo trim. Steering should be changed even on regular trims.

VAG twins are offering more variants to choose from and with those big discounts running since months now, even the price difference is not much.

Hyundai must market Verna more aggressively , every second week I see full page ads of Volkswagen/ Skoda in Noida times ( TOI) and also on TV but Hyundai is marketing only Exter, Venue, i20 in print ads.

The car is already exported from here with that engine as the accent. Should be a no brainer. Also, when export spec gets front and rear fog lamps, why not India?

This is very interesting. I was not aware that the BN7 generation was being exported with a diesel engine. Even the Wikipedia page only mentions the NA petrol and the TGDi petrol as the available Indian options. What market is this brochure for and which countries receive the diesel BN7? As far as I am aware the only countries that Hyundai has a significant presence in and have demand for diesel engines are South Korea and Australasia.

The export version of Verna gets a good looking brown interior and that tasty Blue exterior color. Why not introduce them to the Indian Market too?

The plates of the car in that brochure match with Hyundai's Saudi Arabia website.

Thats a great find

Knew that diesels were getting popular for SUVs/ pickup trucks in Saudi Arabian market, but never thought they would be offered in small cars. Would be super economical to run there.

Wikipedia is nowadays not as reliable for info relating to cars, but good as a base for research. Also export models will have different specs to the Indian market ones, even if they are built in India. Found out that the Renault Duster is sold with a diesel engine in some North African countries, Wikipedia says Renault has abandoned diesels as a whole.

The global market (small in volumes individually, but clubbed together has significant volumes) meaning markets that are small and are entirely depended on imports would mostly have lax emission standards. I believe Saudi still is in the equivalent of BS4 stage. Both South Korea and Australia are weaning away from diesels, more agressively than India, so makers are selling diesels to places that previously had older petrol engines offloaded to them.
