Yes you are right. The modification indeed seems to be risky and that’s what has precluded me from going ahead with it. Wanted to check with other members regarding their opinion and experience on this matter.

Re: Mahindra XUV700 6-seater variants discontinued | No more captain seats at the rear

When I was looking for a replacement of my Accord, I was very clear that I wanted a 6-seater and not 7-seater. The reasons were easy ingress in third row, option to slide forward second row to make more space in 3rd row, if needed.

But the biggest reason was that the third row passenger(s) should not feel cut-off from the rest of the car. With a 6-seater they feel part of the same car along with the middle-space to stretch their legs.

Re: Mahindra XUV700 6-seater variants discontinued | No more captain seats at the rear

If you look at this from a practicality perspective, the decision to remove 6 seater variant kind of makes sense.
  • XUV 700 does not get a sliding middle row
  • 3rd row space is cramped as it is. Not very usable.
  • 6 seater is in reality just a 4 seater vehicle for long drives.
  • Competition is way ahead in this department. Safari offers ventilated seats with sliding adjustment. Innova too has sliding adjustment with a LOT of space.

Why even offer something that's clearly not working out for the XUV? This is something that Mahindra should consider when launching a facelift version.

Agree. If you are calling your car 6-seater with captain seats then 2nd row has to be sliding. No-slide just reduces it to a spacious 4-seater. Not sure why Mahindar skimped on this very basic feature.

Re: Mahindra XUV700 6-seater variants discontinued | No more captain seats at the rear

I have a 6 seater Xuv700 AX7L and can attest that the car is effectively a 4 seater with the family opting to use the Safari if any more than 4 pax are travelling. Although the third row seating is not too uncomfortable, almost always the Safari seems to be the preferred choice. The gripe is also that only the left side captain seat tumbles down for access to the third row. I'm exploring options to remove the 2nd row captain seats entirely and replace them with the OEM bench seat and removing the third row seats to make room for luggage as they don't fall fully flat.
