Re: BMW M340i xDrive launched in India at ₹74.90 Lakhs

Around 2 to 2.5 lakhs difference from outgoing model. However with new one coming in the old model might have some discounts. So real price difference might be 6+ lakhs, which is a difficult decision.

Also now the seats are same material as 330Li/Ld. I kind of like the earlier ones, was more sporty.

Anyway, good move by BMW. Waiting to see how much of a difference the adaptive dampers will make to the driving comfort. Any idea?

Adaptive dampers are to fix the handling I think. When Autocar India tested this and the C43 on track, Narain Kartikeyan reported that this car felt heavy. Adaptive dampers should've been there from the beginning.

Re: BMW M340i xDrive launched in India at ₹74.90 Lakhs

When reading through the BMW forums, opinion seems to be divided about the contribution of M adaptive suspension towards improved ride and handling versus towards better drivability on the track. Some even opine that M adaptive suspension makes the ride worse! (which is certainly not believable). There are also a lot of posts on how the adaptive capability of the 3-series suspension is much inferior to the adaptive suspension in the 5-series. I guess we will know the extent of improvement in ride only once we have an official review or ownership reviews of this revamped model.

Overall this car continues to be such good value! The pricing is spot on and the reliability and quality is fantastic as the pre-LCI and LCI owners can testify. Other than a rattle here and there (which is easily fixed) and a burst tire (a little more frequently than here and there), the mechanicals, the electronics are all solid.

For someone looking to buy a fast sedan that brings a grin to your face every time you drive it, that is also roomy and usable on a daily basis, the M340i has no comparison! The C43 AMG is way too expensive and gets only a 4 pot and the S5 is so long in the tooth. The only drawback is that the G20 is now also a bit long in the tooth. It was launched in 2019, and the next gen will be here in 18 months or so.

That’s what I doubt too. BMW might have focused more on performance making the settings as Stiff, Stiffer and Stiffest.

Hope we will have an official review soon.

Re: BMW M340i xDrive launched in India at ₹74.90 Lakhs

Adaptive suspension on most BMW models works well. I can say from experience with M cars. Even on series models, with such settings, one can feel the cars getting softer or stiffer immediately.

On traditional "M" cars one can change engine, suspension and steering individually. Not sure about the implementation on this variant though.

Relevant content from forums.

https://www.bmw-m.com/en/topics/maga...-fahrwerk.html

BMW has done good work by adding this. They can cover a larger audience, who want something smaller and faster and at the same time need comfort. I hope they can add ventilated seats in some time since they have moved to leather or they continue with existing material as an option. One gets sweaty in our weather with most BMW leather options.

However, when I check the BMW India website it shows Adaptive suspension as well Alcantara/Sensatec combination on the brochure but leather while configuring. So, this suspension must have been added a while back, perhaps followed by leather. Also, the prices on the configurator are old and I don't see new colours. Will find out later in the day and update.

One thing that sucks so much on newer BMWs is the implementation of speed chimes. So, anyone who is keen to buy should pay attention beforehand.

Fully agree. In fact I find the Mercedes chime really soft and non intrusive in comparison. But I believe the chime can be coded out even in iDrive 8 equipped machines now, which was not the case a while back. Haven’t specifically verified but that’s my recollection from a casual conversation some time ago.

So may not be a fatal issue for those willing to tinker with the setting outside the ASC.

Re: BMW M340i xDrive launched in India at ₹74.90 Lakhs

The M340i was always a terrific handler. But really, what the M340i needs is better ride quality for regular commutes and when highway cruising with the family.

In India, ride quality matters 90% of the time, and handling does in the other 10%. Very happy to read about the adaptive dampers which was long overdue in the M340i (even the previous-gen 5-Series meant for everyday use came with them). Hoping against hope that it's not just for a stiffer setup, but there is a setting to make it softer than the outgoing spec car.

OT

I have spoken to different persons and they will delete this but give no guarantees on what happens after the upgrade. They will need fresh payments to remove again later

Most of the drive 8 now runs as 8,5. These will be supported/ updated for a while until the newer 9 comes. The newer 9 which is default on newer Minis is very nice and the chime are much softer.
