MG Mifa 9 MPV rumoured to be launched in March 2025 in India

According to Autocar India, the MG Mifa 9 is expected to be launched in India early next year at an estimated price of 65 lakhs. It will be sold through MG Select dealerships, MG's premium retail channel.

Quote:
MG Motor India is all set to begin operations of its premium retail network, MG Select, and we can confirm that the Mifa 9 MPV will be launched immediately after the Cyberster roadster, the first product to be sold via the new premium network. MG Motor India, which had previously showcased the luxury electric MPV at the 2023 Auto Expo, will show it again at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Show scheduled for January. The commercial launch is slated for March 2025, and the Mifa 9 is expected to carry a price tag of around Rs 65 lakh.

On the face of it, a luxury van might not be an obvious product for MG’s new retail network, but the choice of the Mifa 9 is well in sync with the MG Select business plan, which is to retail what it refers to as ‘New Energy Vehicles’ (NEVs) that offer ‘new-age luxury’. MG also plans to target only 12 major cities at the start of operations; thus, a premium niche offering fits well. What also bodes well is the fact that luxury MPVs have been gaining ground. Toyota sells about 100 Vellfires each month, and Kia has received orders for 3,000 Carnivals, with a planned production of 300 units per month. Thus, MG’s choice of the Mifa 9 has good potential to tap into this growing niche segment.

While sources are tight-lipped about production details, it is likely to be locally assembled, with Gaurav Gupta, chief growth officer at JSW MG Motor India, telling Autocar India in a previous interview, “We think that [local assembly] is the right way to go even if you are looking at the higher-end models at MG Select.”

MG owner SAIC retails the Mifa 9 under the Maxus brand in markets like China and the UK. In Australia, it’s branded LDV, while in markets like Singapore and the Phillippines, it carries the MG badge.

The Mifa 9 was first launched in 2021 as an all-electric model and was followed by an internal combustion version called the G90. The ICE version is powered by either a 2.0-litre petrol or a 2.0-litre diesel engine coupled to a mild-hybrid system. Given MG’s focus on electrics and its plan to offer strong hybrids, the G90 isn’t likely to make its way here.

Like the G90, which utilises a front-engine front-wheel-drive layout, the electric Mifa 9 has a front-motor front-wheel-drive setup with a 90kWh lithium battery. The motor puts out 245hp and 350Nm, while the claimed WLTP range stands at 430km.

Even by luxury MPV standards, the Mifa 9 is a large vehicle, stretching the tape at 5.2 metres in length, 2 metres in width and 1.8 metres in height. That’s bigger than the Kia Carnival all around and longer and wider than even the Vellfire. Space inside is ample, too, and the Mifa 9 offers both 7- and 8-seater layouts. As with others in the segment, the Mifa 9 comes very well-loaded. There are goodies like powered front and rear seats with heating, ventilation and massage, fold-out ottoman seats, powered rear-sliding doors, twin sunroofs, and rear entertainment screens.

As for the design, despite having a boxy silhouette like most MPVs, the Mifa 9 does get some striking highlights. The nose is tall and upright and features a full-width LED light bar. The headlamps are mounted on the bumper and are enclosed by a chrome garnish that goes around the entire fascia in a U-shape. The slab-sided profile gets further chrome highlights around the windows and door sills, while the rear gets vertical drop-down tail-lamps connected by a light bar, with more chrome trim surrounding it and the bumper.

Re: MG Mifa 9 MPV rumoured to be launched in March 2025 in India

This one looks promising although many customers may be put off by the name of the vehicle. It maybe a good proposition as long as MG doesnt go the Kia way in pricing the car because it enjoys even less goodwill than the latter. Also,MG may have negligible brand image in the premium MPV segment which is dominated by Toyota so this one needs to really punch above its weight and match atleast the BYD Emax-7 in terms of pricing to be a sales success

They will probably rename it. As SAIC & MG have proven an ample number of times, they are the masters of branding. Starting with buying the "MG" brand, and then model names such as the Hector, Windsor, Gloster (blingy, I know), ZS EV etc. Compare MG's branding efforts to BYD which just doesn't get the importance of good nameplates. All of BYD's model names in India - save for the Seal - are forgettable.

MG also has a history of pricing most of its cars well. The Windsor & Hector were well-priced to begin with. ZS EV was initially premium priced, then brought down (it was the most sorted EV on sale for the longest time). The Gloster isn't my kind of car, but it does offer a lot of metal for the money.

They do have the opportunity to call it the MG Buckingham. Jokes apart, if they're able to price it competitively( like they did with the Windsor) then there are high chances it might eat into the Carnival's market share.

There's a review here-

Looks to be a very well thought out, comfortable and (dare I say) good looking MPV. It can take the fight to the Carnival anytime - so as long as they price it right. One thing that scared me though was the mention of controlling the headlights through the touchscreen - seriously MG?!

Oh this brings out fond memories!
Had a short airport ride in this land yacht in Hong Kong.

Super smooth and feature loaded. Leather everywhere but not at the level of say a BMW, more like MG or Maruti. The 2nd row passenger ottoman had smartphone-ish screen which can practically controll all the functions of the car except driving.

Re: MG Mifa 9 MPV rumoured to be launched in March 2025 in India

The front bumper outline and the rear light arrangement is similar to the upcoming Mahindra BEs ! The Mifa has just chrome as outline on the front bumper, the sharp lines of the rear lamps are similar.

Guess with the flexibility of LEDs to apply strips that are thin, car makers are doubling down on tracing the outlines.

What happened to the oh-so British names like Windsor and Gloster? This van is large and luxurious enough to be called the 'Buckingham' .

Re: MG Mifa 9 MPV rumoured to be launched in March 2025 in India

Looks like common man's Vellfire is here and if only they are able to keep the price below Kia Carnival they have clincher. MG in India has moved away from their Chinese origins at least in people's mind.

If you speak to general public they don't really go back to MG's Chinese ownership, so it is high time we stop looking at MG from the Chinese POV. At the least they make reliable cars IMO.

Re: MG Mifa 9 MPV rumoured to be launched in March 2025 in India

Hi, 90kWh x Rs.9000 = Rs.8,10,000/- for battery + Rs.20 lacs for body, interior & features + Rs. 19.67 lacs for 70% import duty make it Rs. 44.99 lacs or 49.99 lacs ex showroom.

However, if they are planning to assemble it in India, then 39.99 lacs ex showroom is definitely doable.

Must be named after the M9 road in UK

Looks like an awesome competitor in this segment. Would definitely give Kia a run for it's money if priced sensibly. May not touch the Velfire given Toyota's perception and network.

India - builds bigger roads to ease existing traffic
Manufacturers - hold my beer..
