Nissan Patrol may come to India by 2026 as Land Cruiser rival

According to a media report, Nissan is evaluating the Patrol SUV for the Indian market. If all goes to plan, Nissan might launch its flagship SUV by 2026 as a completely built unit (CBU).

The latest generation of the Nissan Patrol is currently sold only in left-hand drive markets. However, a right-hand drive version is in the works as demand for the SUV grows in markets like Australia, South Africa, and Japan.

In the international market, the Patrol is available with two engine options: A 3.8-litre V6 that makes 312 BHP and 386 Nm and a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 that produces 419 BHP and 700 Nm. Both engines are paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The India-spec Patrol is likely to get the latter.

In India, the Patrol would serve as Nissan’s halo product. It is expected to be positioned against the upcoming Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. Reports suggest that it might cost upwards of Rs 1 crore.

There are a handful of imports in India I assume. I have seen 2-3 in Hyderabad itself. Irrespective of price I think this will find takers, but why Nissan chose to delay this till 2026 is something only they have an answer for.

Good to see Nissan finally considering the Patrol for India (as RHD is in works).

The Patrol will be positioned around the LC 300 price range as that's its true rival.

Re: Nissan Patrol may come to India by 2026 as Land Cruiser rival

Now that the Magnite facelift is launched, Nissan started their usual strategy about launching their global products in India. This will be followed by unveiling the Patrol in a hugely publisied event and then go on silent mode for next 6-12 months. By then their Duster sibling will be more or less ready for launch. They can milk that and Magnite for next decade or so.

Indian market has become highly competitive and it has become difficult for conservative/ traditional carmakers like Nissan and Honda to compete.

In any case Patrol if launched would be lapped up by Indian consumers due to the moniker's brand value. But then again, Nissan never fails to disappoint

Re: Nissan Patrol may come to India by 2026 as Land Cruiser rival

I don't think Patrol has the same brand image and value as a Land Cruiser or G Class or Defender. So, launching the Patrol for about approx. 1.5cr ONR price most likely will not find many/expected takers IMO. Additionally, Nissan is bad in India's product specs and product strategy (including pricing). So, this more or less will be like another Xtrail situation for Nissan in India.

Re: Nissan Patrol may come to India by 2026 as Land Cruiser rival

Patrol rivals LC300 so expect the pricing to be in 2Cr+ territory.
Not gonna lie, this looks much more handsome and proportional than LC300, specifically from the side.
This also is bigger than LC in all 3 dimensions.

So if a big white elephant on the wheels is your priority, this shall sell. Perhaps even better than LC.

Opulence wise, RR LWB may win and rovers are anyway, loyal customers.

Re: Nissan Patrol may come to India by 2026 as Land Cruiser rival

I asked a known, who has LC200, LC300, and the earlier generation Patrol, which was imported privately, earlier this year.

According to him, his Patrol is superior to the LC200 in most aspects. However, when compared to the LC3000, it lacks as far as suspension and driving dynamics are concerned. This is understandable, as the Patrol was introduced in 2010, around the same time as the previous generation 200. However, his Y62 (5.6L V8) excels to the newer generation LC300 in terms of engine and transmission and beats it. I Hope, Nissan has managed similar driving dynamics with the newer V6.

The newer Nissan Patrol has independent suspension for all four wheels, which should give it an advantage over the LC300 and something they term - HBMC.

One notable issue I’ve noticed during my limited experience with the new LC300 is the lack of space. To improve steering comfort, Toyota has changed the steering geometry resulting in a shorter cabin on the LC300 than the LC200, and it’s immediately apparent. We hope the newer Patrol doesn’t suffer from similar problems.

It’s good that Nissan has announced a launch for our market. Even if they price it at over 2 crore, this will likely result in double-digit sales. I can certainly say that the X-Trail would have performed better if it had been launched with the highest trim level. If people can afford an NX for 75 lakh, there would be customers for the right variant of X-Trail at 50 lakh (including all the features). Overall, it’s a good time for us, and I hope Nissan achieves success with the Magnite.

Patrol is a guzzler and it returns an F/E of approx. 6 kmpl in UAE roads during summers. So in India where fuel prices are hovering around ₹ 95/- this can only be a ultra rich man’s toy I weekend 😅

During my time at the Sultanate of Oman, while working with the NISSAN National Sales Company, the Patrol had the following engines
4500 cc 4 cyl Petrol
4800 cc 6 cyl Petrol
4200 cc 4 cyl Diesel
Later came the 5600cc V8 (what a monster of a vehicle this was)

How I wish the Nissan Patrol, LC 250 and similar SUV's were launched in India. They are the real benchmarks in a lot of attributes. Especially in making lives easy, going places and lasting decades.

This is very similar to Toyota's KDSS.

Re: Nissan Patrol may come to India by 2026 as Land Cruiser rival

By the time, Patrol will be launched and at the price it will be launched ( looking at X-trail price), it will make LC300 look like a steal.
It will take nissan 2 years to convert a SUV from LHD to RHD and sell the SUV. By that time market would've moved on and we'll have discussions like what's the mentality of Indian consumer as it rejects SUVs from Nissan and such.

Now, THIS is what I call a 'HALO' product. Not the previous one with a 1.5L 3 cylinder petrol. This is up there with the GTR as far as 'HALO' product is concerned.

Re: Nissan Patrol may come to India by 2026 as Land Cruiser rival

Nissan will need to up its game if it has to be able to sell the Patrol. The Patrol, internationally, is very well respected and stands up tall against the mighty LC.
Given how poorly they have watered and derailed the otherwise amazing X-trail in India, I don't expect them to do much better with the Patrol.

Anyone spending multi crores on the vehicle will need some more confidence and Nissan India, in its current form is not going to elicit that.

I think it is not easy to sell a 5 lac rupees vehicle and the same brand selling a 2 crore rupees vehicle. When you sell something so cheap
you are basically competing in a hotly contested market and your thoughts are to cut costs and corners all the time. Now this mindset gets
ingrained and you cannot do a complete U turn when you offer a luxury product.

Re: Nissan Patrol may come to India by 2026 as Land Cruiser rival

I still remember the first time I sat inside a Nissan Patrol back in 2010. I felt it much more rugged than the Land Cruiser.Never got the chance to drive it as it belonged to my client.

It will be a very costly affair to own a Patrol here in India as the very powerful engine has a very poor fuel efficiency.Still it will stand out in the sea of luxury full size SUVs.
