According to a media report, Toyota plans to launch the new Land Cruiser Prado in India in the second half of 2025. It will be imported as a completely built unit (CBU) and positioned below the LC300.



The all-new Land Cruiser Prado made its global debut in August last year. The SUV is based on the TNGA-F ladder-frame chassis and measures 4,920 mm in length, 2,139 mm in width and 1,859 mm in width. It has a wheelbase of 2,850 mm and a 221 mm ground clearance.



The latest iteration of the Land Cruiser Prado sports a retro look. It has a boxy exterior with black bumpers, giving it a rugged look. Inside, the SUV gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, moonroof, heated & ventilated seats, a head-up display, wireless charging and more.



In some markets, the Land Cruiser Prado is offered with a 2.8-litre diesel engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. In the US, Toyota offers a 2.4-litre petrol hybrid powertrain paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and 4WD.



In terms of off-road tech, the new model comes with a Multi-Terrain Select System, Downhill Assist, Electronic Locking Rear Differential, Crawl Control, Front Stabilizer Bar Disconnect System, Multi-link Rear Suspension System and more.

We are going to have proper competition to Defender in the looks department.

Pricing is the key though.
LC300's base model starts around 106k$ and its ex-showroom price in India is 2.1Cr, lol.

And Prado's price seems to start around half that mark in the states which could lead them to an ex-showroom price of 1Cr.

Still ludicrous, but so is every other luxury car these days.

For Toyota.

Option 1 - Price it bang against the Defender and steal sales away from it. Ofcourse, the Prado can't match the Defender in bodystyle and powertrain options, but there definitely will be takers for a Toyota. Especially those with the money (not Landcruiser money) but can't stomach a Landrover ownership.

Option 2 - Price it like how they have always priced the Prado in India. Leave a wide space for the next gen Fortuner pricing and upcoming ScorpioN rival.

We all know which option Toyota India will choose.

Wouldn't it probably make more sense to bring the GX? I mean I get that the Prado brand has more recognition but nothing beats the L badge!

My thoughts as well.

Price wise as well, Defenders come for ~1.33-1.9cr (110, OTR Kochi). Lexus has a huge opportunity here with the way defenders are selling right now. Surely it will be THE upgrade from Fortuner for many.

Even if the decision isn't based on the fuel option, why bother selling the Lexus version, when you can sell the Toyota version for Lexus money in India. Though launching the GX would give it more sales and brand visibility. Seeing only Lexus ES on the roads. More chance of seeing an Urus on the roads than seeing an NX or RX on the roads.

Request to Toyota: Please don't price it above 1.5 Cr and bring the Lexus too. It will fly off the shelves for sure.

This is good news. Actually, pleasantly surprising news.
But seeing the past trend, there is one big issue that I can see.

The pricing. Knowing Toyota, this LC300 will make the Urus feel like buying a Brezza. Very happy if I am proven wrong.

Again, being a Toyota, it will be a great seller. Even at 25 cr.

Of course, just guesses. Won't even make it past the 'viability' study.

Vertical slats on the grille suggest that this is the Prado VX variant. Notable highlights include square LED headlights, a 360-degree camera, 20-inch black alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers and side steps. Notably, the VX variant does not get a sunroof in markets like Australia, but the model spied had one.

The model gets an all-black interior, a new steering wheel with the ‘TOYOTA’ letter mark, a digital instrument cluster, a touchscreen infotainment that's likely to be 12.3 inches, a wireless charging pad, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat and AC vents for the second and third rows.

confirmed that the new Prado will launch by late 2025, so this unit could be on its way to Bhutan. It will sit below the Land Cruiser (LC300) in India, which has a Rs 2.10 crore price. The Prado will be sold as a CBU so expect it to be priced between Rs 1.7 crore and Rs 1.95 crore.

I seriously have lost faith in TKM time and time again because of their atrocious pricing. The previous generation launched here was obnoxiously priced - 92 lakhs ex-showroom! The new Prado, while a very compelling car needs to be priced right for it to sell more than 5 units every 6 months.

This was a shipment to Bhutan if I am not wrong. The truck was spotted somewhere West Bengal/North East and not bought with an intention for testing or sale in India.

The ones on the flatbed are on their way to Bhutan. However, one white LC250 (private import) has made it to India already, Chandigarh to be precise.

Guys, I request you not shed any tears and agonize on behalf of Toyota India. I can assure you that every single Prado imported as CBU will get sold regardless of what the price is. When the first batch of LC300 was sold in India the price was close to the Range Rover Vogue and every single unit got lapped up.

For anyone who prioritizes long term durability and dependability the Prado will be the first option compared to the Defender. However, once the Local Production of the Defender starts at the Tata Plant in Pune, it may have a huge price advantage over the Prado, which may negate the reliability factor.
