Re: 4th-gen Kia Carnival launched at Rs 63.90 lakh

Stupid move - should have been around the 45-48 Ex mark for it to be a reasonable seller and for it to make ground for a substantial product in this segment that is only going to grow. Imagine taking this to the repair center and it will take weeks for anything to get resolved.

Toyota wins hands down here. Just last week I noticed a slight mark on the inside of the headlight DRL casing of my 2 year old Fortuner. Spoke to toyota and they took a picture and this morning gave me a call to send it so they can change other- each headlight casing costs a lot and car was returned in 3 hours.

I was seriously looking at getting this for replacing my 8 year old Innova - but this pricing makes zero sense.

Kia Carnival on-road prices in various states:

With on-road prices crossing 80 lakh (!!!) in some states, Kia have to work fast to bring the CKD version ASAP. As of now, this is a great car let down by terrible pricing. Sure, you don't have many people movers in this price range, but I doubt anyone will plonk a little less than a crore on a Kia in India.

Re: 4th-gen Kia Carnival launched at Rs 63.90 lakh

Contrary to popular opinion, I think the new Carnival might find enough takers among the politically inclined.

For example, the Fortuner is quickly losing its exclusivity, so more senior party members have been looking for an upgrade. Right now, they don't have many great options below the Defender, and the new Carnival could very well fill that space!

Don't ask me how I know!

Re: 4th-gen Kia Carnival launched at Rs 63.90 lakh

W.O.W Kia launches 2 cars worth 63L and 1.35Cr. Talk about courage!

Kia has never priced a car wrongly in the Indian market. Did they slip up and make a mistake finally?

I am sure there is a big market for people who want to upgrade from Innova but how many will be willing at this price? with EV9 also being a CBU, they can import a total of 2.5K for a year. While we debate if Carnival might be a pricing fiasco, the general sentiment is that EV9 surely is one. So 90% of that 2.5 K is going to be for Carnival which means close to 200 car dispatches per month in the long run. Their sales earlier used to be in and around 300-350 per month. So did they burn their hands or are they running with all that money to the bank? Interesting next 6 months.

Re: 4th-gen Kia Carnival launched at Rs 63.90 lakh

I have royally panned the EV9's pricing (link), yet the Carnival's launch price is within the range I expected. Guys, we have to understand that there is a noteworthy market for the rich who want more than an Innova Hycross, but don't want to spend 1.5-crores on the Vellfire. There is simply nothing in between, no MPV that can match the comfort of the 4th-gen Kia Carnival.

At 64-lakhs, Kia will achieve its modest targets. This is an MPV that is more comfortable, luxurious & spacious than all similarly-priced sedans, crossovers & SUVs (especially the ones from Germany).

CKD could potentially bring in VFM proposition. But, the price difference wouldn't be significant in my view. Maybe a 3-5 lakh variance is what I think it would be.

Kia is trying to create a segment that has not been tapped by any of the major OEMs. Though Innova Hycross and Velfire belong to different segments, the gap between them to have a lifestyle people mover priced between 45 - 70L bracket makes a good proposition. Having seen some success with the earlier generation Carnival, kia has upped the game here. Hopefully the CKD brings in the much needed numbers for the nameplate to survive

Re: 4th-gen Kia Carnival launched at Rs 63.90 lakh

Is it overpriced? Yes.
Will enough people buy it regardless? Also, yes.

Like others have said, this is an absolute niche where there is a total and massive vacuum between Hycross and the V class / Velfire.

If people can pay 65 lakh for a performance oriented EV6, they will also pay 75 lakh for the uber luxurious Carnival, which really has no comparable as a package anywhere above and below in its zip code.

I was expecting the carnival to have a premium of about 10-15L ex showroom max. This pricing is hard to digest, especially when the powertrain is carried over from the last gen.

Re: 4th-gen Kia Carnival launched at Rs 63.90 lakh

Does anyone know the price of the Limousine variant? I'm surprised that Kia hasn't launched this variant, considering it was there in their pre-launch brochure. Are they launching the Limousine variant with the CKD?

4th-gen Kia Carnival launched at Rs 63.90 lakh-screenshot_20241003210553777_cn.wps.xiaomi.abroad.lite.jpg

Here's my take on the Carnival CKD Pricing:

CBU Ex-showroom: ₹63,90,000
- GST 50%: ₹21,30,000
- Dealer Margin ~5%: ₹1,02,000
- CBU Custom Duty 100%: ₹21,30,000
Net Revenue: ₹20,28,000

Considering Custom Duty of 15% for CKD Route:

Net Revenue: ₹20,28,000
+ CKD Custom Duty 15%: ₹3,04,000
+ Dealer Margin ~5%: ₹1,16,000
+ GST 50%: ₹12,24,000
CKD Ex-showroom: ₹36,72,000

₹37L for a fully loaded Carnival Limousine+ CKD seems to be VFM. Limousine variant can be priced around ₹33L.

Re: 4th-gen Kia Carnival launched at Rs 63.90 lakh

I am pretty sure this will have enough takers in the Premium market. Vellfire is an outsell at 1 Cr+. Innova Hycross is the only big car you would like to get chauffeured around and then there's no upgrade. Kia will definitely take the advantage and I can say quite surely that they'll finish their first lot of the imports. Celebrities, politicians, Directors will absolutely be happy with the premiumness that the Carnival has to offer.

Re: 4th-gen Kia Carnival launched at Rs 63.90 lakh

Besides what the product bring to the table and those stellar looks, the niche product placement, lack of options and CBU price would guarantee one thing for sure - EXCLUSIVITY and those who can afford would be looking from that perspective mainly and go for this without second thoughts.

Comparing this to German SUVs is like comparing apples to avocados here IMHO.

Kia Carnival is already popular among Tamil politicians. Some of the Tamil politicians who use Kia Carnival as their primary mode of transport:

1. Annamalai, BJP Tamil Nadu State President
2. Senthil Balaji, Tamil Nadu state govt minister
3. N Rangasamy, Puducherry CM

I definitely think this will hold true for the new generation of Kia Carnival as well !

The previous Carnival is also the official vehicle of current Kerala CM, Pinarayi Vijayan. The Carnival was suggested to him by the Police IIRC.

Re: 4th-gen Kia Carnival launched at Rs 63.90 lakh

I was on a lookout for its launch since I wanted to replace my Tata Safari Storme with a true seven seater.

The points raised in support of its pricing are true to an extent including the CBU route and an availability of target market buyer.

But when I look at the previous generation carnival and the current 4th generation iteration, to me as a prospective customer I feel its not priced correctly and doesn't sound VFM to me. Why as a customer should I pay for the manufacturer decision to take the CBU route since it is not a product which belongs to a luxury or an ultra luxury segment.

I would be comfortable only at a on-road price bracket of 50Lakhs only.

Secondly considering all this inventory issues faced by all the car manufacturers, I am not very positive as what could be the monthly demand of the carnival because at this price bracket, it is a very niche crowd which would be catered.

Why does the interior color and Alloys looks so much identical to the outgoing Hyundai Alcazar? I'm also on the ship who thinks its too over priced, I expected it to be a 10-12L cheaper.
