On reading this thread, same thoughts as you have mentioned above

My Carens will be 3 years old by then (presumed launch date) and if everything falls in place, I would happily buy this 7 seater Hybrid from Hyundai and keep it as my retirement car. In fact I was seriously looking for Hycross Hybrid, but the quality of Interiors put me off for a 38L OTR Chennai car. I am sure Hyundai will be way ahead in terms of Interior quality.

Love Santa Fe, wonder why Hyundai is not focusing this segment.

Same goes for Toyota Rav4.

Re: Hyundai coming out with another new SUV for India | Positioned between the Alcazar & Tucson

Hyundai should increase length of Alcazar by 150cm - 200cm and provide better Diesel, Petrol and hybrid engine options to make Alcazar a good alternative to XUV700, Safari and Hycross instead of creating new offering altogether. Hyundai has the right tech, working ADAS level-2 suite and suspension setup tuned for comfort ride which is appreciated by families. Hybrid will increase cost of car acquisition but will reduce running cost.
Hyundai used to sell Santa Fe couple of years back and it was a good car with AWD option. The new Santa Fe looks good from all angles except the rear. Hyundai can rework Santa Fe rear to match design of Alcazar with connected tail lamps and Santa Fe could sell in few numbers increasing brand value of Hyundai.
If Hyundai wants to enter space above Tucson, they need to train sales and after sales better.

That is some great news. This segment in India is really booming and already has a few great products but more competition will only make them better. What I am really waiting is for Toyota to realize this and launch few products of their own like the Corolla cross which is already sold in USA.

Re: Hyundai coming out with another new SUV for India | Positioned between the Alcazar & Tucson

This is the reason why Alcazar did not sell. It looks like a elongated Creta (it is) and nothing else for the buyers unless he wants a NOT a Creta but its no-nonsense features and design with two additional seats/space. But, the engines it come fitted up with are similar to the 5 seater bro and may not be good enough for a 7 seater especially in highways where it should be with it's 7 seats (unless you are a Maruti, and you think a 75hp 1.3cc liter is good enough for a SUV). Personally, I would like to have Alcazar, as it is the only nice looking, refined, modern 7 seater SUV in this price range which is reliable. But the engine and the power figures put me off.

With the design capability of what Hyundai has in Europe and the credits they have so far, it is not a difficult task to do a tough look midsize SUV to complement their best selling Tucson. This is the only thing they lack along with a proper pick up truck and they can share this design for both. Can be named Terracan reviving their top of the shelf SUV's name plate as well. A boxy, square-ish, brawn-ish SUV from Hyundai in the range of 25 lakhs will have a great potential not just in India, even in Middle East, South America and South Asia as well. This is what people like nowadays. Provide 4x4, 2WD and AWD hardware as optional and see what happens. For the engines Hyundai should have some good engine options like 2 liter Turbo for both Diesel and Petrol. My Wishlist!

Something like this, Santa Fe XRT but 5 seater and shrunken to the size of Tucson or Alcazar. If they bring another me too SUV in curvy shape, I do not know why another one.

Re: Hyundai coming out with another new SUV for India | Positioned between the Alcazar & Tucson

One thing Hyundai need to keep in mind while designing this SUV is: people in this category of SUVs want "class" in its design and not "blings". Toyota cars in this segment is an example.

Consider this: The group has designed cars with lights from left to right, top to bottom on both front and side, and what not! The only missing design is lights throughout the side panels of the car on both sides. Wondering whether we will get a car categorised as 360 x 360 degree lights instead of 4 x 4!

These blings will sell in the lower end of the market but won't have much takers in the higher segments.

My wishlist for Hyundai:
1. Make it 5 Star safe.
2. Make it efficient.
3. Carry on with your design language, and technology offerings, as I cannot fault these.

Re: Hyundai coming out with another new SUV for India | Positioned between the Alcazar & Tucson

Hyundai/Kia currently has a 1.6 turbo hybrid powertrain that is used in the US spec Sedona/Carnival and Sorento. This powertrain has mixed reviews and is certainly not the last word in response or smoothness or efficiency. Just not as seamless or well rounded as the competition from Toyota or Honda. Hope Hyundai gets it right for the India application, for the Innova HyCross powertrain is very very good.

Re: Hyundai coming out with another new SUV for India | Positioned between the Alcazar & Tucson

I would like to offer a contrarian view. If the recent slide in Fortuner sales is anything to go by, the sales of large SUVs will see a bit of a cooling down. I see a few reasons for this:
1)affordability
2) consumer apathy - the gen Z is somewhat ambivalent to cars as a measure of personal success.
3) Practical issues of roadspace in urban areas particularly.

Hyundai already has hybrid vehicles such as Kona, Tucson and SanteFe sold in Europe. Hybrid car in India for Hyundai will be a game changer for sure.

I'll say it: It's probably going to be a Hycross rivalling model (and XUV700). Price and dimensions might be benchmarking the Hycross, even though it will be an SUV.
