Mercedes-Benz is expected to launch the latest incarnation of the E-Class sedan in India later this year. A few units will be delivered during Diwali. The car is expected to be priced at ~Rs. 80 - 83 lakhs (ex-showroom).



The E-Class has been the heart of the Mercedes brand for the past 75 years. Introduced in India in 1994, it has completed 30 years in the country and is the only surviving model name from 1994 (across all brands).

The E-Class will be available only in a long wheelbase version (model code V214). It will come in 2 powertrain options with ISG (Integrated Starter Generator) - E 200 (M254 petrol producing 201 + 23 BHP / 320 + 205 Nm with a maximum speed of 233 km/h) and E 220d (OM654M diesel producing 195 + 23 BHP / 440 + 205 Nm with a maximum speed of 231 km/h). Both engines come with a 9G-Tronic AT. It has a rear-wheel drive configuration and a coil spring suspension with a passive damping system.

The E-Class will come in 5 exterior colour options. Graphite Grey, High Tech Silver, Obsidian Black, Nautic Blue and Polar White (seen here):


Avantgarde 3D radiator grille dominates the front end and gives the car great road presence:


Rear end features connected tail-lamps. Variant badge is pasted on the left:


A chrome strip runs across the rear, just above the tail lamps and number plate housing:


Measures 5,092 mm in length (14 mm more than the outgoing V213) and 1,493 mm in height (13 mm more than the V213):


Wheelbase of the new E-Class is 3,094 mm (15 mm more than the V213):


Full LED headlamps with DRLs that double up turn indicators. Notice the Mercedes-Benz branding:


Large black 3D grille gets honeycomb mesh detailing with a chrome border and inserts. The 3-pointed star sits in the middle with the front camera just above it:


Front bumper gets a wide black air dam. The skid plate gets a thin chrome insert:


Left and right parking sensors get large black housings with honeycomb mesh detailing:


Full underbody protection at the front:


Sensor console sits at the top of the windscreen:

The bonnet gets subtle creases:

Seamless door handles get chrome inserts. They emerge if you approach with the key or if the car is unlocked. Notice the "Mercedes-Benz" branding on the top of the door handles:


Subtle character lines run along the sides. The running board gets a slim chrome insert:


18-inch dual-tone 5-spoke alloy wheels shod with Nexen 225/55 section tyres at the front...


...and rear:


Glass area is very healthy and has a chrome border running around it. The long wheelbase of the car means large rear windows. The rear quarter glass is Maybach style:


Diesel and DEF fillers are clearly marked:


Tyre pressures are mentioned on the inside of the fuel flap:


Massive panoramic sunroof:




Roof slopes beautifully into the tail section. The boot lid gets a subtle lip spoiler:


3D LED tail lamps get a Star motif. The rear camera is hidden just above the number plate housing:

Mercedes E-Class V214 Interior Images

On the inside, the E-Class features Nappa leather, open-pore wood trim and lots of recycled material. The quality of materials used is as good as it gets in the segment. Upholstery options include Cinnamon Brown (seen here), Macchiato Beige and Black. The MBUX Hyperscreen makes its debut in the E-Class. It comes with Zero Layer and AI.



Standard features include soft-closing doors, power-adjustable seats with memory, comfort neck pillows, reclining rear seats, electrically extendable rear seat bases, wireless smartphone chargers at the front and rear, 4-zone automatic climate control, Air Purification Package with 2-stage activated carbon air filter, electrically adjustable A/C vents, electrical rear sunshades, Chauffeur Package, panoramic sunroof, acoustic comfort package, remote window opening and closing, double sun visors, heated windshield, brake hold feature, MBUX Hyperscreen, 14.4-inch touchscreen central multimedia display, 12.3-inch front passenger display, 64 colour ambient lighting, selfie and video camera, MBUX 3rd generation, 17-speaker Burmester 4D Surround Sound system, Dolby Atmos, multiple USB-C charging ports and more.

Standard safety features include 8 airbags (including knee and centre), pedestrian protection, Blind Spot Assist, Active Brake Assist, Active Parking Assist, Car-to-X communication, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, 360-degree camera system and more.

Nappa leather-wrapped steering wheel comes with an array of touch-type switches and gets silver chrome inserts. Reach and rake adjustment has been provided:


Comes with galvanised paddle shifters in finished silver chrome for changing gears:


Fully digital nstrument cluster is customizable:


You can choose the theme of your choice:


Indicator, high beam and wiper controls on the left stalk...

A/C vents are slim and curved along the border of the dashboard. They are digitally adjustable:


Light switches are placed on the right-hand side of the driver:


Parking brake is located below:


Engine start/spot button and idling start-stop switch are placed on the left-hand side of the driver:


Doorpad holds speakers, seat adjustment and memory controls and power window console. Soft-touch materials have been used. All doors get the soft closing feature:


Mercedes-Benz branded scuff plates are backlit:


Power adjustable front seats with memory are upholstered in alpaca wool combined with a recycled material and come with comfort neck pillows. No massage functions here though:


The footwell is illuminated and wide with a huge dead pedal. It is positioned perfectly and can even accommodate large-sized shoes:


ORVMs get blind-spot warning triangles:


Burmester 4D surround sound system with Dolby Atmos sound personalisation delivers 730W through 17 speakers. The sound quality is fantastic. There are 4 exciters in the seats and the driver's seatback gets 2 loudspeakers:


Wide angle selfie and video cam on top of the dashboard enables in-car video calls. When the car is stationary, the driver can participate in online video conferences and take personal photos and videos which can be stored on a USB flash drive. A/C vents are slim and long and the airflow can be adjusted digitally:


The 14.4-inch central display comes with the latest generation of MBUX - Gen 20x.i2. It comes with pre-loaded apps such as Spotify and In-car Calender, Vivaldi Browser and Routines:


The user can set up his/her profile:


Routines can be created and various features of the car (ambient lighting, seat heating, sunroof, etc.) will adjust themselves according to the programmed settings according to templates, self-created routines of AI generated routines:


As mentioned earlier, the direction of the airflow from the A/C vents can be controlled through the touchscreen:

Navigation features 2D or 3D map displays. A satellite view is also available. It comes with real-time traffic updates and car-to-X communication:


Shortcut menu is below the touchscreen. Consists of the camera activation, drive mode selector, audio controls and more. No fingerprint sensor here though:


The centre console holds a storage box with a sliding lid and a wide leather-wrapped armrest:


Large storage box contains cupholders, wireless smartphone charger and 2 USB ports:


Under the centre armrest is a deep storage bin with a felt lining and a USB charging port:


MBUX Hyperscreen allows the front passenger to have their own 12.3-inch touchscreen for watching movies, using apps, attending conferences via the selfie camera, changing settings and more:


Medium-sized glovebox gets a felt lining and illumination:


12V power outlet is located in the passenger footwell:


Roof bezel has touch-type controls:


Panoramic sunroof is massive and lets in a lot of light. It has voice operation and anti-pinch function along with automatic closing for rain and hazardous situations. It can also be opened and closed using the keyfob:


High quality sun visors with vanity mirrors and illumination:


Rear doorpads get the same theme as the ones in the front:


Sunshades are electrically operated. Even the rear quarter glasses get sunshades:


Backlit "Mercedes-Benz" branded scuff plates at the rear as well:


Rear seats get individual headrests and 3-point seatbelts for all occupants. Only the left and right headrests get neck pillows:


Legroom is abundant. All footwells are illuminated:


Seat base can be electrically extended for better under-thigh support:


Backrests can be reclined between 26 to 36 degrees. With the Chauffeur package, the front passenger seat can be electrically moved ahead for additional legroom:


Centre armrest gets a wireless charging pad:


It has a shallow storage compartment with 2 USB ports...


...and retractable cupholders:


Rear A/C vents are also digitally adjustable. The E-Class gets Thermotronic 4-zone climate control and a filter system:


Storage bin with illumination is located below the rear A/C console:


Seatbacks of the front seats get wide pockets for the rear passengers to use:


Bag hooks are provided on the B-pillars:


A/C vents have been provided on the B-pillars as well:


Boot space is adequate for a family's vacation luggage:


Space saver spare tyre and tools are neatly arranged under the boot floor:


Boot lamp is located at the top:


The boot is handsfree and the lid can opened by moving your leg around under the rear bumper:

Man, just look at that rear seat! I think the E-Class owns the 5-Series (LWB notwithstanding), when it comes to rear seat comfort. Really looking forward to driving & experiencing this car.

Th E looks luxurious inside but not a fan of the external design and looks as bad as the new 5 series. The elegance that was associated with Mercedes is no longer there. Front seats/dash look better to me in the 5 series and the rear, better in the E. With BMW now matching E class, will be an interesting battle in coming days. That said both the cars are becoming prohibitively long for self drive.

I’m so happy to see a donut spare below the boot floor in this generation. If I’m not mistaken the previous gen LBW E class had the spare inside the boot and eating into the primary boot space (not entirely sure of this - as far as I remember).

On pure looks, the new E class still looks much better than the all new 5 series. Not sure how they specifically stack up against each other on rear seat comfort.

This looks like the launch edition with the kind of kit that is being offered. The passenger side screen might not make it to the next batches, Mercedes does reward the early birds with their launch offerings. This is certainly going to run rings around the 5 series, the rest seat with sun shades, automatic at that, is proper limo experience.

I think they missed out with not offering ventilated seats.

Mercedes Benz has simply outdone BMW in terms of the rear seat amenities, there is simply no comparison between the two!

Most E-Class owners don’t care about the engine specifications on offer since it’s predominantly chauffeur-driven, this is where the 5er trumps it with the more powerful petrol motor.

Looks are subjective, I liked this new V214 E-Class over the G68 5er (with 18 inch tires) until I saw pictures of the new 5er with the optional 19 inch alloys (shared by a friend who got to test out the car).

Man this looks so classy compared to the overdone 530Li G30. I'm sure MBIL will price this one closer to the 530Li, since there's a slowdown in the Indian automobile industry!

Mercedes Benz has cheaped out once again on the headlights of this just like they did on the GLC.

I wonder when they will get to launching the 6cyl engine options. E350d/450d or perhaps the petrol E450?

Fuel Lid reads as
B7: 7% Bio-Diesel
B10: 10% Bio-Diesel
XTL: Renewable Diesel/Green Diesel

Does new E-Class supports 100% XTL Diesel?

This could be a game changer for India since its derived from renewable sources and would help in cutting forex spent on crude. A tech to be used for other diesel operated engines.

What MB is thinking over? They have again cheaped out in headlights - handing over same inferior reflector headlights like in GLC.

International versions are having projecting matrix LEDs. Atleast they should have given an option to select upon, but no. Was seriously not expecting in vehicle so premium.

Mercedes have taken the interiors to a whole new level not to mention that cavernous rear seat area which is important for me. I have thus far hesitated to buy a Mercedes out of fear of large maintenance bills and unreliable engineering. But the interiors of this car are making me drool. Eagerly looking forward to the full review.

May I request the moderators who will review the car to check and reveal the ground clearance.

BMW 5 series LWB is such a lame car compared to this, the 'E' looks so proportionate and stately! Interiors look awesome too, typical Mercedes charm and a dose of modernity in spades, Love the metal AC vents!

Mercedes however has to offer the petrol E300 along with the now announced E200 if they want to get some enthusiasts to consider this barge, offering only the 200 petrol when they have the 300 on C class and GLC is a step motherly treatment, while I agree most users are chauffer driven and will not bother to get the higher state of tune, it is however necessary to compete with BMW and Audi on paper, both of who have ~250 hp motor in their offerings.
