Kia to launch more affordable GT Line variants of Seltos & Sonet this year

According to a media report, Kia plans to introduce more affordable 'GT Line' variants of the Seltos and Sonet. These are expected to be positioned above the HT Line trim.

The lower-spec GT Line variants could get a few cosmetic changes to help differentiate them from the HT Line trims. Also, there will be fewer features on offer, which means, 'X-Line' will be the top-spec variant across both the Seltos and Sonet.

Coming to the powertrain options, the report mentions that the new 'GT Line' variants will most likely be offered across both petrol and diesel versions of the Seltos and Sonet.

The new lower-spec GT Line trims are expected to be launched in the third quarter of CY2024.

IIRC, Kia already had such variants initially in 2019 named GTK with the 1.4 turbo engine.

It's great that Kia provides an option for customers who like the GT body kit.

Unless Kia brings in some good discounts / offers to entice the buyers, these re-jig of variants isn’t going to add much value.

Almost every manufacturer has some or the other discounts to offer, but Kia. I don’t understand their audacity even in such trying times for the automotive industry.

It’s not even like they have some USP per se, that will pull the buyers to their products.

Currently, it’s only the recently facelifted Sonet that is bringing in good numbers for them; but not for long. It’ll soon face heat from the upcoming Skoda’s sub 4m and the 2025 Venue. Even in current scenario the Venue is still giving it a decent fight.

Furthermore, if TML plonks the new turbo petrol engine and the Diesel DCT in the Nexon, than it’ll fly through the roof, I presume.

The great Indian party for car makers is on its way out. I believe the car makers have seen it as well and are bracing for impact. Special editions (Maruti), price cuts (XUV700! ), discounts (VW & Skoda), we have started seeing them all. The Koreans however hard they try cannot remain unaffected and hence this flurry of new variants. Will be a buyers market soon. Anyone who wanted/needed/could buy a car has already bought one in the last 3 years.

Hyundai is looking at an upcoming IPO and cannot afford a slowdown, will be very bad timing. So i expect them to be very ruthless and proactive in keeping their numbers intact.

Re: Kia to launch more affordable GT Line variants of Seltos & Sonet this year

As @dieselteen said, Kia had offered GTK, GTX variants in the Seltos initially, but axed them in the June 2020 update probably due to less demand.

But now they're introducing all these variants just to be in news because Seltos sales is decreasing day by day. Also it would be nice if Kia offers iVT with the lower GT Trims, due to which people who want a cheap AT GT can go for it.

Kia India - It's time to listen. Come out of your stubbornness and offer the IVT option with a decent kit (360 camera, ventilated seats, light interiors on a GT variant and a full suite of safety features).

Re: Kia to launch more affordable GT Line variants of Seltos & Sonet this year

For Seltos,
Kia needs to give all the GTX+ features missing in HTX+ except the exterior GT-line kit. Needs to launch the HTX+ IVT. The GT-line novelty is also reduced after introduction of Creta N-line.
It makes a lot of sense to have only T-GDI engines reserved for GT-line like at launch in 2019. In there current line up they have non GT-line T-GDI and GT-line Auto CRDI, does not makes sense for a sporty variant. Creta's variant line up is more clean and makes more sense.

For Sonet,
Except the base 1.2L petrol, all other are engines are in available in GT-line and non GT-line guise, so what's the need of a affordable GT-line when HTX and HTX+ exist with same engines.

IVT GT line with all GT line features except ADAS could be great if priced right.

I would agree with your thought on HTX+ variant rejig. Hopefully someone from Kia reads our forum to get some clue on what to do with the current HTX+ variant.

The current HTX+ is too pricey for what it offers with turbo petrol engine. HTX+ IVT with ventilated seats, tan brown seats, 360 degree camera, without Bose audio, without ADAS and with electric seats should get the price down by about ₹1 lakh. HTX+ variant has competitive price and could attract some buyers to upgrade from HTX to HTX+.
