Re: New Car features that you will PAY not to have

I honestly don’t understand why so many have issues with the start/stop feature, in fact I like that feature and disable it only in slow moving traffic (stop-go).

In a city like B’lore where the minimum time for a red signal is 120secs I really prefer to keep the engine off and if that’s being taken care of automatically then all the more convenient.

On my previous car, which didn’t have this feature, I used to manually switch off the engine as traffic signals.

Of course for those who don’t like it there’s a button to disable (tho it’s back to “enable” in the next driving cycle), but that’s not a big inconvenience in my opinion.

Push button start/ stop.

I don't know why I have to have it. Older ignition slots were much better without worrying about parking your car keys.

Also, you cannot cycle from engine on to accessory mode- say like waiting at a signal with engine turned off. When you switch off the engine, everything gets turned off. You have to press if again once to get into accessory mode. This is annoying if you want the music & the dashcam working when turning off the engine for a short while.

I don't know if this can be called a feature, but I don't mind paying a decent amount if I can 'not' have the "beep" alert for speed!

Got it, yes the auto start/stop feature is a nonsensical overcomplicated system just to increase mileage and fuel efficiency as per european testing conditions. The worst part is that the AC goes off. It unnecessarily stresses the battery too.

Re: New Car features that you will PAY not to have

My features that I would pay not to have are
  1. Sunroof
  2. Electrically adjustable seats without a memory function
  3. Low-profile tyres
  4. Auto-start stop
  5. Low-quality dashcams

Re: New Car features that you will PAY not to have

1. Sunroof purely optional for a trim.
2. Auto Stop and Start
3. Digital rev-counter
4. Touch climate and audio controls.

Re: New Car features that you will PAY not to have

1. Irritating warning chimes of 80 & 120 kmph.
2. Seat belt reminder chimes without the actual person in the seats.
3. Digital speedo and rev counters. I am always fan of old school analog dials.
4. Blinding DRLs and LED headlamps.
5. Touch screen Audio and AC controls.
6. Connected car tech.

Re: New Car features that you will PAY not to have

1. Engine start-stop feature in a car with a turbo-charged engine. As noted by many other BHPians it is not good to stop and restart turbo engines, with high-speed moving parts, within seconds many a time in a day.

In the case of XUV 3XO the engine start-stop also seems to reset the drive mode to the default zap mode and this is annoying.

2. Sunroof. Would rather have auto-dimming ORVMs and auto-dimming IRVM.

3. Dual zone AC if it results in less cooling overall.

Regulating bodies should enforce only safety related requirements, baseline pollution requirements and leave performance by and large to the product manufacturers. Micro management by regulatory bodies usually results in trouble for customers.

How about disabling one feature with another? Welcome message (audio) on my car is customised to 'turn off auto stop'

Re: New Car features that you will PAY not to have

1. Android Touch Screen (More of a distraction)
2. ADAS Alerts (Indian roads & educated drivers and ADAS don't go well)
3. Touch based AC & Music Controls (Somewhat of Point 1, again more of a distraction)
4. Sunroof (Absolutely not required in Indian climate, more of a hassle to maintain, safety concerns)
5. Chrome Garnishing (Not my taste, gives the car a cheap look)

Connected headlamps and taillights,
Screens on dashboard,
Digital instrument cluster,
Adas,
Auto headlamps and wiper,
Crome all around,
Start stop system,
Mild hybrid battery, are few things I would rather avoid.

Re: New Car features that you will PAY not to have

2 things:

1) Petrol DI Engine: There are enough examples of gunk and carbon buildup behind intake valves since oil/fuel never touches that surface. As the resultant issues don't appear for 7-8 years on average, manufacturers are happily pushing these engines in the interest of better performance and efficiency but this is a serious design flaw according to me.

2) Sunroof: This is something I would like to rather trade with ventilated seats considering the Indian climate. For most part of the year, we're running away from the sun so sunroof is nothing more than a vanity feature and if at all, might add a maintenance overhead down the line. Also, all that weight on the roof moves the overall center of gravity up affecting stability and dynamics.

3) Speed warning: This was introduced way back, I'm lucky I don't have it in my 2015 Duster 110ps but a new car would blow my brains off with that constant chime above 120 kph.

Re: New Car features that you will PAY not to have

The one feature that I would dearly wanted to avoid is the Sun-roof.
Biege interiors as it is too difficult to maintain in our situation.
The electrically adjustable seat feature is another thing as I am skeptical of it's durability when user is someone like me who is too overweight.
