Re: New Car features that you will PAY not to have

As a 2 wheeler rider, with astigmatism, (wanted to curse here, but TBHP rules and all that) damn the super bright LED headlights.

Auto dipping of LED headlights if driving below a certain speed limit, is a feature I would like to see added to the current trend of faux SUVs.
I am tired of vehicles sitting at idle, or trudging along at 40 kph in interior roads, with LED headlights at full beam. Excuse me, we have streetlights in our town, right upto the highway. Please worry about illuminating the road and not the entire block.

Re: New Car features that you will PAY not to have

My list of things that I am happy that I would not buy or let go with pleasure :

1. Moon / Sunroof or whatever that marketing gimmick is. I am not fond of it because of the examples I see on the road or how some people abuse it.
2. All Digital instrument clusters which do not have customisability, used it and found it very restrictive. (What is the use of giving a digital cluster if it's fixed and can't be customised apart from the colour)
3. Piano Black glossy dashboard. what happened to those regular dashboards?? what was bad about it??

And this one is last: Bring back those mechanical cars, and I'm prepared to pay more for them. However, with so much electronic tuning and computers on board, I feel like I'm losing the feel of driving and just dread the day when some of these electronic components break.

DPF filter- to unclog a chocked filter car has to be revved at a particular RPM for some time, or has to be driven in a high gear for 30-35 minutes etc etc. How does that help in curbing pollution?

Excessive chrome

Sun Roof

Touch screens and

White interiors.

forgot to add..
Eliminate non stop warning beep for speeds above 120kpm. A simple ping/beep should be enough.

Re: New Car features that you will PAY not to have

The features i would like to avoid in new cars are as follows:

1. Sunroof: Totally a novelty use feature. When the car is new, one might use it for a day or two but in a country with weather like ours, absolutely useless feature. try using it in delhi in winters when AQI is 400 +

2. The idle Start Stop feature: Though the feature is good and helps in saving fuel but the main irritant is it resets every time you switch off the car. If it does not resets everytime, then it can be useful feature.

3. Touchscreen systems: the touchscreen systems look good however the buttons in these screens are a headache, only after pressing and poking at it 2-3 times does the function work. The old button systems were good however touchscreen system with button controls might be a better solution.

4. Omission of temperature gauge in cars: its a more essential feature rather than knowing which gear you should be driving your car in and that useless instant fuel economy feature.

5. The connected tail lights & headlights: looks absolutely ugly and really blinds the car behind.

Re: New Car features that you will PAY not to have

1 - Sunroof - It is a weak part in the car. Prone to breaking and leaking.
2 - Black roof - Doesn't it absorb more sunlight/heat and reduce efficiency of air conditioner?

Let me say that I will not pay extra to remove theses features. I would rather buy a lower variant.
But in reality I am happily pottering around in 17 & 18 year old cars as I do not want to pay an arm and a leg to get useless features.
Hopefully I will be able to get suitable replacements in a few years.

Re: New Car features that you will PAY not to have

  1. Sunroof, especially ones that have no (BYD Seal) or translucent (Skoda Superb) shades covering them.
  2. Blacked out roofs and blacked out ORVMs
  3. Practically unusable 3rd row seat forced on buyers (Skoda Kodiaq)
  4. Connected tail lights
  5. Touch button controls

Re: New Car features that you will PAY not to have

I think the essence of this thread is somewhat lost here. I see a lot of posts that are listing items one really does not like if it has to be paid for. There are many listing items that people just don't like but can live with or people don't mind if they are not charged for.

However, here i believe the idea was that you already paid for that thing as part of package and you are ready to shell out money to get it removed. So, these have to be items that are highly annoying and intolerable - you just cannot live with them.

For example, you paid for voice commands as package even when you didn't want it. But you have an option to turn them off without paying anything. Same for connected car subscription. Just don't use it or renew it.

What fits this thread is large rims with thin tyres coming as a package and you are ready to pay to replace them with smaller rims and thicker tyres. Perhaps Maruti's rear seat belt warning system is another example.

Simply hate this trend, and I’m ready to pay to get rid of it.
As multiple members have quoted, I too will give a thousand bucks to the company to give an option to permanently disable the start stop function.

I work in engine domain and my previous car was diesel Ritz. I do follow the idling rule meticulously. Never had any turbo issues. Have seen many turbo bearings burnt off due to hot shut downs. Image the plight, driving the xuv300 for 2 to 2.5 hours and you stop for some reason and the engine shuts down suddenly due to the stupid feature

Re: New Car features that you will PAY not to have

All critical operations that can be done manually like:

1.Electrically adjustable seat height, steering reach and rake

2. Electronically dimming IRVM instead of the manual ones

3. Automatic rain sensing wipers (currently using those on my Honda Jazz, and they are simply frustrating to use)

Other features that I would rather not have as a standard fitment is a poor sounding, crappy music player with equally bad head unit. I would rather fit an after market one while taking delivery.

Exactly my point too. The turbo engine needs to idle for a couple of minutes prior to engine shutdown, after driving for an hour or more, for the engine oil circulation to be completed and turbo cools down. Hot shut down as you called it is very detrimental to the life of Turbo. If laymen like us can recognise this issue, how come the smart engineers at Mahindra not realise this issue. Start-Stop function should be discarded for Turbo engines totally.

I think accountants are running the show and not the engineers as it should be.

Here's my list:

• Connected tail-lamps
• Huge alloys (like the 20" on the X-Trail)
• Auto start-stop system
• Wireless charger
• Black interior
