Tata Nexon Diesel DCT variant listed on official website

Tata Motors recently announced that the new Curvv SUV Coupe will be the first mass-market SUV to be offered with a Diesel-DCT combination. However, it seems, the company will offer the same engine and transmission option on the Nexon as well.

The Nexon Diesel DCT has already been listed on Tata Motors’ official website under the booking section. Currently, only the 'Fearless +S' variant gets the Diesel and 7-speed DCA combination, but more variants could be offered at launch.

The Nexon is available with a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine that produces 118 BHP and 170 Nm and a 1.5-litre diesel that puts out 113 BHP and 260 Nm. While the petrol engine is offered with a 5-speed manual, 6-speed AMT and a 7-speed DCT, the diesel is mated to a 6-speed manual and 6-speed AMT.

The Nexon Diesel DCT variants will most likely be more expensive than the existing 6-speed AMT versions. Whether Tata continues to offer the 6-speed AMT though remains to be seen.

Re: Tata Nexon Diesel DCT variant listed on official website

Good option for "rest of Delhi NCR" folks, specially from Kerala/TN/KA, where a lot of demand for diesel still exists.

The AMT on the diesel was always a compromise buyers had to make if they needed convenience of an AT with the efficiency of the Diesel, in the Nexon. Glad that TATA finally paid attention.

That leaves Mahindra with their 3XO AMT Diesel in a conundrum. While the AMT on the Mahindra is reasonably well tuned, they could have very well introduced the Diesel with the AISIN AT gearbox from the MPFI/TGDi as well, but they missed the boat this time around.

Anyway, I feel that AMT's should in general be avoided by manufacturers for cars costing upwards of 12 lacs ex showroom atleast, regardless of the engine option.

Great news!

Also crushes the dominance of the Kia Sonet Diesel Auto in this segment. Of course, even though the Nexon's is a DCA, it's still a superior offering and in league of the mainstream Auto-boxes. This was much needed for that awesome engine that TATA has. As they say - better late than never!

Trust M&M also to come up with a'proper' auto box in the Diesel. I'm they wouldn't want to lose on the limited but important market share.

I like this - the heat is building up in the automotive segment.

This is great.

it'll create interesting confusion for the ones considering the XUV 3X0 D AT. While Mahindra's diesel is a hoot to drive, the convenience of a proper automatic cannot be negated.

I can't believe Mahindra did not plonk the lovely Aisin AT in 3X0, Missed opportunity ?

Tata’s nomenclature for DCT is DCA. This is from a Belgian gearbox manufacturer called punch power glide.

This news doesn't seem true.

I checked Tata motors website.
Diesel Nexon still comes only in MT & AMT. No DCA.

Request mods to check and delete this thread, if necessary.

I think OP also pointed it out from the official website itself. Please check the thread heading.

If that is now not visible, the only logical conclusion is that it was removed by someone after they were alerted. Most manufacturers regularly keep a tab on Team-Bhp and chances are that someone would have seen this thread and informed the team to remove the fau-pax quickly.

Honestly at this point Tata should just get rid of the Altroz. Such step motherly treatment for a brilliant product like the Altroz is a shame. I am happy for Tata giving a proper automatic to the diesel Nexon but am sad for the kind of treatment they are showing towards the Altroz.

Re: Tata Nexon Diesel DCT variant listed on official website

Welcome news, I was looking at Curvv only for this but if it comes in Nexon, it can be had in a affordable package. How reliable is the DCT gearbox used by Tata, compared to say the DSGs of VW group?

Exactly! They have the hardware but not using it, it’ll be the only diesel AT in the segment and many will go for it.

So, is the DCA for the diesel variant of nexon/curvv same DT1 provided by punch powertrain that is being used for petrol variants? Any idea on this?
DT1 only supports a max torque of 200nm but 1.5 diesel by tata produces a peak torque of 250nm.

I Think this post deserves to be a new Topic on itselves.

Today I was listening to the EVO India podcast with Martin Uhlarik, about the Curvv and designing aspect within TATA Motors design studio.

He says that all the three design studios are working on a total of 9 models in their current line up. He didn't elaborate but I think it should do with the refresh of the current models on sale. Tata Motors has unveiled a new platform christened ATLAS. As per my understanding, I thought it replaces the OmegaArc platform as it is old Ford derived one and converting it from an all aluminium architecture to high tensil strength steel chassis made it a little heavy. Also the AlfArc had it limitations as it could not accommodate more than 16 inch wheels. So there was a huge gap of platform limitations and as well with the engines as they lacked powerful ones. Models between them needed both. Even Mahindra is handicapped the same way! (No model between 300 and 700)

The ATLAS platform will replace both the current platforms! Yes that is true, and how? Well if you see the video presentation of the platform shows a hatchback to a full blown 3 row SUV, that would dawn the range of cars. So that is why Tata Motors went slow on new product roll out including Tiago twins and Nexon. So as Sierra is debuting shortly the Harrier will soon be scrapped. The Safari will march on but in a new avatar on the new ATLAS platform that will be lighter, powerful and fuel efficient. The current OmegaArc platform will be too heavy for the 1.5L TGDi engine making it sluggish and a guzzler. So ultimately they will be a 2 platform to a single platform car line-up for ICE and one for EV.

So what are the 9 new models Tata design studios are working on?

First out is the all new Skate board EV in collaboration with Jaguar's MLA platform. That is expected on 2026.

Next are all Gen 2 architecture based cars that will have one in ICE and EV (Atlas and Activ.ev) platforms.
Sierra - 2025
Nexon - 2025-26
Tiago 2026
Tigor 2026

Next
Altroz 2027
Sedan based on MLA platform 2027
Sedan based on ATLAS platform 2028

That should give us an insight of what's cooking up within the company and all this is my pure guess. I have no insider information...

As per my understanding small EVs will not be on the Skateboard platforms as they will not be viable and will continue to roll out on Gen 2 platforms. Alroz is selling quite well with 3500 copies a month and a refresh is expected soon. So keep watching.

Re: Tata Nexon Diesel DCT variant listed on official website

As someone who hates AMTs with a vengeance, I am so, so happy to read this news . Finally, there is someone else to challenge the Korean monopoly in the Diesel AT Small & Midsize Crossover segment. Hyundai & Kia have had a free run for way too long. Nothing quite like a smooth Diesel Automatic for those with high running. And Tata's 1.5L engine is awesome!

Tata is also competing with the Koreans in terms of engine + transmission combos. The Nexon is now available with a Petrol MT, Diesel MT, Petrol AMT, Petrol DCT, Diesel AMT (will continue for price advantage), Diesel DCT, EV Medium Range, EV Long Range (bigger battery) etc. etc.

The Nexon price spread is from 9.xx lakhs, all the way up to 21 lakhs! And there are so many variants that, even if the Kia product guys (famous for giving the Seltos so many variants at launch) try to understand the wide range of Nexon trims & variants, they will faint

Bring it on, Tata. Mahindra, you desperately need a good AT for the XUV 3XO.
