The Tata Punch sales have crossed the 4 lakh unit mark in just 34 months, becoming the fastest among SUVs to reach this milestone.



The Punch was launched in October 2021. The first 1 lakh units were sold in 10 months and sales doubled in the next 9 months. By December 2023, Tata Motors had sold 3 lakh units of the Punch.

The compact SUV has been topping the sales charts from January to June 2024, beating some of the most popular models from Maruti Suzuki. The sub-compact SUV segment witnessed a growth of 75% year-on-year. Tata Punch led the pack in FY2024 with a 68% market share in this segment.

The Tata Punch is available with a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine paired with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. It also has CNG variants, featuring Tata's dual-cylinder CNG technology.

According to Tata Motors, CNG variants contributed to 30% incremental growth of the overall Punch brand. On the other hand, the Punch.ev has a market share of 17.7%. In terms of overall sales, the petrol variant contributes 53% to the overall Punch sales, followed by 33% by its CNG variant and 14% by its EV variant (CY24).

So many underpowered cars on the road. I really wish it came with a more powerful turbo petrol motor but clearly that is not what people and TML are after. The 1.2 NA engine is really anemic and is best only for a Tiago/Tigor. Nevertheless, I really like the way the Punch looks, and am happy for its success.

The Punch EV is a pure winner for the price point it comes at... there are some usual Tata QC issues but overall a very sorted product.

That's the way to go for the Tata Brand. Tata Punch is built for the masses and the they are simply lapping it up. The general masses are not bothered about the engine specs and worry about the real time performance. They just want a SUVish looking car so and Tata has hit the right punch here.

Great milestone for TATA. The punch is a great success! The electric and CNG model choices and decent feature set and "SUV" looks work well for the Punch.

And although the 3 cylinder engine is not that great, everyone calling it underpowered should understand this is not for the enthusiast. This is a good car for regular use. And even still, it is slightly more powerful than the exter, venue, kiger and magnite NA models. Only the fronx 1.2 NA has more power.

Still, it would be great if TATA can add a variant with the nexon engine. If they can package it in an altroz, it could be offered in the punch as they both are based on the ALFA platform.

I drive the Punch extensively and the engine is more than adequate for the city runs. Highways especially the single lanes are a different story.

But the car is well built and has been trouble free till now, having covered 35k Km's.

Kudos to Tata to ace a size market which was dominated by Maruti. The right product with right power train options, 5* safety rating and innovation helped them in acing this category.

Punch.EV is a right fit for a city run about small SUV with occasional outstation trips.

Punch CNG came with the industry first dual cylinder tech which enabled boot space in a CNG car. It was such a big success that Hyundai has copied the same.

Tata has already innovated by mating CNG with AMT for Tigor and Tiago. I think it will follow soon in Punch as well. This will help sustain the numbers.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I tried punch and it looks phenomenal but leaves much to be desired regarding engine and overall SUV-ness (can I coin that word)?
