Why can't they do CKD and assemble here. It will work out wonders they can do atleast 1000 units if priced at 30-35L range.

They can also do some exports locally.

Skoda's Octavia for India in CKD form is likely to fill the gap between the top spec Slavia, which is currently at Rs 18.7 lakh ex-showroom, and the Kodiaq that is priced at Rs 40 lakh.

Skoda would want to price the Octavia between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 35 lakh

X1 with 134 HP, Octavia with 1.5 engine, CRV with 118 hp, Xtrail with average offering, it feels like they are serving the Indian auto market to Hyundai, Mahindra & Tata [HMT]. Superb is already dead with the crazy price, Renault is a gone case, Honda is in hybernation mode for over a decade, only HMT are innovating, expanding offerings (engine, features, power, looks etc.) and capturing the market share. It feels like the end of European / American brands in India.

Octavia is a cult among enthusiasts, with 1.5 engine they have killed its character. Nobody buys Skoda badge, people buy offering which was a segment or two above, which is completely missing in this launch.

Skoda UK website still shows 2.0 TDI with DSG, hope Skoda brings that to India.
Or if Skoda locally manufactures 1.5tsi and Octavia, then we can get some benefits. But as we know VW India group, both are unlikely. RIP legend!

Good news that it is coming back. Disappointing that it is an ordinary spec. with the Torque at 250nm, looks like it is still the DQ200 gear box.

Come on Skoda, bring it back in full glory with some solid powertrains and differentiators. The whole price range from 20-22L OTR to 50L OTR is pretty much empty with respect to sedans, even if the pricing is premium, well loaded variants with unique features like the hybrid variant will definitely find takers.

VW and Skoda top management has gone nuts. Launching Octavia with 1.5 TSI and no diesel will tarnish the brand value of Octavia they built over the years (especially in India). For us, it was always the cheaper way to enjoy premium European cars with great dynamics and power. Launching this 1.5 TSI will make a great dent on fun to drive aspect and it will also lose its value proposition over other luxury German manufacturers.

I don't think anyone would be willing to shell out more than 20 lacs for this 1.5 tsi if they want something fun to drive, as the Virtus and Slavia are pretty good cars too and being lighter cars can be tad bit fast than Octavia. These cars would seem more lucrative once facelifted and more features are added.

If Skoda is planning a CKD in India, they may as well get some 2.0L TDi engines and plonk it in the car. They are planning to launch the Superb with the same 2.0L TDi that should make the quantity of engines sufficient for service and spares supply.

Also the 1.5L NA TSi engine is already been assembled in India. They may as well add a turbocharger to the same line and plonk it in. It will make local assembly viable.

Anyways it easier said than done as we don't know the technicalities involved. I heard that the new Slovakian plant where the car is assembled does not have the capability to assemble CKD kits. I heard there has to be a seperate area for it. Maybe it has to do something to do with fitting all the parts on a specialized container frame.

Skoda's 1.5L TSi is a turbocharged unit. All the cars that Skoda sells in India have turbocharged engines be it the 1.0L Kushaq/Slavia, 1.5L Kushaq/Slavia, 2.0L Kodiaq.

I don't understand the game plan here, what's the point of a large car with a small engine at a premium? VW was stupid to drop diesel, such suits their offerings really well, other than some environmentalist types who won't buy cars anyway, no one cared about the so called scandal. The videos say that the 2.0 petrol can't meet bs6 norms, isn't that offered in the Audi? It seems they can't meet emissions with any decent engine.

Imagine buying the Octavia with the 1.5 TSI for 40 lakhs and getting smoked by a Slavia (due to its lesser weight) on a highway, which costs half the price!

Ofcourse there is no comparison between the Slavia and the Octavia in terms of sheer size, comfort, build, features etc. But at the end of the day one would definitely expect more performance while paying so much.

In the Autocar review, the host said, Skoda killed the previous Octavia as it was not viable to upgrade the 2.0 TSI to the BS 6.2, but is it not the same engine gearbox combo doing duties in the Kodiaq as well as the Tiguan?
