BMW recently launched the 5 Series LWB in the Indian market. The new model is designed to cater to a wide range of customers and has been positioned as an alternative to the 6 Series GT, which was discontinued globally last year. Now, the 6 Series GT is no longer available in India either.



The 6 Series GT was essentially a larger 5 Series with a coupe-like body style and a more practical boot. In India, it was offered with two engine options: a 2.0-litre petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel.

The new 5 Series LWB offers almost similar levels of comfort and practicality. It has a wheelbase of 3,105 mm, which helps increase the legroom for rear-seat passengers.

The 5 Series LWB is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Was bound to happen, would not make sense to keep this in the portfolio now. Good thing that they priced the new 5 nearly at par with what the 6GT was.

It was not the prettiest BMW but I'm kinda sad to see it go. THe 630d was surprisingly capable even on rougher roads and watching BHpians manage to take it up to random hillstations was always a surprise.

This I feel is not a good move. The car is immensely comfortable not just in terms of the legroom it offered, but also because of the higher seating compared to any other sedan.

I really wanted to buy the last of the 630D to add to my current car - but BMW discontinued the 630D without any warning and the 620D leaves the heart wanting more.
