VW Polo Takata airbag recall in 2024

Got a message today from VW regarding recall for 'Takata driver side airbag recall'. My car is almost 15 years old. Not sure why a recall is made now. Any one else got this message?

Weird!

The Toyota recall for Takata inflator happened circa 2017-18. I owned a 2010 Corolla back then and the recall was processed sometime in early 2018. Takata has since gone bankrupt.

Why now? (not 7 years earlier)

I always wondered why VW never recalled any of their cars in India despite Takata being associated with their airbag controversy for long time. Takata airbags used to be common in almost all the cars and many of the manufacturers recalled their car models that time. Takata was/is a subsidiary of Honda IIRC?

Weird but rest assuring that VW is still showing faith in their car models sold even 15 years ago in India, a country where government and rest of the automobile lobby is hell bent on declaring the life of the cars as low as possible.

Yes, I too have received this message today, though I had been getting calls previously (last month) on the same.

Had the same for my almost 12 year Vento nearly a year ago. Guess they finished the Ventos and now doing the Polos ?
