A very unfortunate incident and even sad that our fellow BHPian had to suffer unnecessarily for no fault of his. Our brother is in despair and now’s the time to unite as a community. A suggestion/request to all the lawyers on this forum, especially those based out of Delh, let’s unite and represent our brother along with filing multiple cases against the corrupt authorities. It’s time to send out a firm and clear message to the corrupt officials, a common man can no longer be made a scapegoat to cover up for their incompetencies.

This is shameful. A person arrested because he was driving on a flooded road. Wow!! No words to even describe the stupidity that runs in India. Rather than arresting officials who have not been able to provide proper drainage on roads, arrest the people who are suffering due to their fallacies.

Requesting the lawyer forum members from Delhi to help this individual out.

Irony of our system. Somebody who actually drove drunk, crash into and killed a person can get bail in hours, basis 300-word essays and the excuse that he is "genuinely remorseful".
Somebody else who was merely trying to drive through horrendous conditions caused by abject failure of civic authorities is in jail because they wanted a scapegoat.
I try not to be cynical, and especially, I try not to post cynical, low-utility posts, but Banana Republic is absolutely right.

Also, we should be glad there is a video here that shows the jeep was nowhere near the gate. If there was no video, authorities would be free to spin whatever theories / fantasies they wished. The (possibly well-connected) centre owners / operators could completely blame the driver and go scot free.

As per further witness accounts on news channels on YouTube, the death toll is 12 and not 3.
Police are least bothered about the lives lost. No value of human life even in the capital. Students are taking out candle marches and are obviously outraged but it will all die down soon with no logical conclusion.

With new rules of criminal procedure, who knows how long the Bhpain would have to bear with the hassle and ordeal.

This is absolutely ridiculous logic by cops to just show some action leading to an exteemely distressing situation for the Bhpian. While the arrest and any further proceedings won't stand legal scrutiny, the bottom line is that he has already been arrested, undergone mental harassment and will need to spend considerable time and money to fight this atrocity in legal corridors and clear himself. The rotten legal process is another level of harassment in itself.

I hope he is connected and gets backing of some influential person to get out of this quickly.

Also, any update on his situation that members from Delhi could share well be greatly appreciated.

I hope the Gurkha owner comes out and sues the Delhi police, government, and everyone involved. It is absolutely ridiculous that he was arrested.

He might be free from jail in a couple of weeks, but why was he arrested in the first place? Who will compensate him for the mental harassment?

This is outrageous and an absolutely terrible situation.

There is no rule of law in this country and this incident proves it again. Our politicians and the deeply inept bureaucracy take purely reactionary measures looking for scapegoats only when something makes the headlines, without addressing the fundamental problems in the system. When that fades away from public memory, it's business as usual.

Delhi civic body should be held responsible for this, not a poor passer-by on the road.

Manuj's statement (through counsel) has ben presented before court and published in TOI, I'm sure he will get bail soon. Otherwise he as sent to Judicial custody for 12 days.

What an absolute joke - seriously - you sometimes need to comprehend the sense of the morons and brainless people making such arrests. There is a clear absolute lack of failure on the MCD's part and how in the bizarre world can an arrest be made for a car passing by when every day by this logic the VIP's holding hundred's of ambulances while they pass in there convoys should be arrested - that actually makes sense while this just shows how incompetent our system is.

But here is a bit of relief for all of us - the same brains exist in the western world as well. I will not get into the details but it is the same everywhere.

With all due respect, how is that a relief? The existence of idiots in the western world or the eastern world does not justify the brain dead decisions taken in our country.

And the police actually jailed him?!

Our country, India! Things going pretty well, huh? The place where drunk drivers killing people will get you a bail in hours while driving on flooded roads can get you arrested within hours!

If the driver was jailed, the PWD authorities have to be jailed, those who designed the drains have to be jailed, the one who gave permits for the buildings have to be jailed, the coaching centre owner should definitely be booked and at least they should attempt to send summons to God, you know? Acts of God, right?
