Re: Field trials of the 4-door Mahindra Thar begin!

I think Mahindra & Mahindra is planning well for the launch of 5Door THAR.

This being their flagship car with 4x4 capability, considering this being tested with ADAS, I anticipate the launch would happen in Australia & Europe soon as well.

Not sure if you all have noted, this August 2024 marks the 75-year anniversary of their first CJ3A's launch.

Made a quick byte on this:

Clearly, the SUV will be with a ~4.6m length and +300mm wheelbase comparing 3Door Sibling, we can expect below based on the spies:
1. All LED Lighting
2. ADAS
3. 4x4 and may launch with 4x2
4. 1.5L mStallion, 2.0L mStallion and 2.2L mHawk
5. A Panoramic Sunroof
6. Dual 10.25" infotainment, borrowed from 3XO
7. Dual Zone Climatic Control
8. Push Button Start
9. Steering wheel + switches, Steering stalks borrowed from the recent Mahindra's
10. Front Row and second-row armrests
11. Bench Seat in the rear as an option
12. A proper rear AC vent
13. R18" Alloys with 255x65 rubber, R19 may be expected
14. Side steps as always
15. AdrenoX tech

are some noteworthy updates awaiting for us. All this will make the SUV feel upmarket, spacious and more usable.

We will get more answers on August 15th maybe even before that with the teasers ;-)

Plenty of reports suggest ~4400
Has no one actually measured the test cars?

That was a good doubt, even I had the same.

I guess since THAR 5Door AKA Armada is engineered to overcome the limitations the customers faced with 3Door, considering Scorpio N is also positioned in the same price, M&M would use this an opportunity to present an SUV with a larger boot. Hence a 4.5-4.6m length would be needed for sure.

I have posted a pic of the boot to the video I linked above.

Hence my theory is, second row space:
XUV700>Scorpio N>Thar 5 Door>Thar 3 Door

Boot space:
Thar 5 Door (460lts)> XUV700 (240lts) >Thar 3Door> Scorpio N

Uploading a video shared by power drift, usually they are rock solid within their updates.

More powerful engines, much bigger SUV, better build with more features - I think the above video underplays all that while predicting prices.

Pure speculation from me:
Current top-end 3 door Thar: Rs. 17,60,000 ex
After Facelift top-end 3 door Thar: Rs. 18,49,000 ex
Top-end 5 door Thar: Rs. 22,49,000 ex

And if they choose to position it as a more premium life-style vehicle with a kitted top-end, might even hop over Scorpio N top-end price. Lets see.

Totally!, this video had me thinking, if they launch it so cheap, it may have some really significant misses from a practical standpoint, almost as good as only adding 2 doors.

I'm hoping they do! Scorpio still not quite there! XUV not SUV enough, this more premium slot is available. However, a lower pricing with increased practicality may tap into the Creta/ Seltos volume.

Re: Field trials of the 4-door Mahindra Thar begin!

Honestly, if this vehicle has to be a successful family car, it has to do 2 important things -
1) Suspension need to be similar to XUV700 or atleaset close to a ScorpioN. It cant be the boat feeling of the current thar. Given most people will buy this as a lifestyle vehicle with some offroading capabilities
2) Steering wheel of existing 3 door thar is hydraulic and not city friendly. It need an electronic setup to be light in city.

If they add these 2, then they have a family car winner on their hands..

Re: Field trials of the 4-door Mahindra Thar begin!

Considering the slow down in Automobile industry looks like Mahindra has decided to go slow on the launch?

No teaser so far, no online promotions. Anyone having any inside info the launch is on track?

Re: Field trials of the 4-door Mahindra Thar begin!

This has the potential for a stretch XL version of Thar Armada just like LE Defender 130 with full 3 rows in the near future.

Doesn't look like a 4.3 meter car, a size which many predicted, looks bigger, perhaps due to the tyre at the back.

It may be because of the boxy shape. Current 2 door thar is sub 4m (3.985 m to be precise).

All vehicles are with the spare tyre cover. Assuming they are going for the promo shoot.

I concur. Families have offroading aspirations too. It's not sad, it's to be celebrated, and more people will discover hitherto unknown and unreachable places.

Re: Field trials of the 4-door Mahindra Thar begin!

3 door Thar has only 2 airbags for driver and passenger. Curtain airbags are located in A-pillar near the roof area around B-pillar based on what I have seen in other cars which come with 6 airbags.

It would be good to see how the hard top is now integrated in 5 door Thar and if there are any changes made to the structure to accommodate curtain airbags.

The ride quality of 2nd row seat matters to me, as my family is in the second row when we go on longer trips. If the ride is not too bouncy which makes people in second row uncomfortable, then 5 door Thar has the capability to attract more buyers.

I am waiting for speculated 15th August Thar 5 door launch. It is definitely going to bring more orders to Mahindra's existing backlog
