Wish it were true but it would be wishful thinking.
The avalanche of orders and backlog that this vehicle will generate would be unprecedented both in India and abroad(if they are allowed to sell it overseas).

But it is doubtful that they would manufacture huge numbers in advance and fill up their stockyard.

Instead they would be ready with the raw material, electronics, upholstery and the full assembly line to ensure uninterrupted and fast manufacturing after the launch date based on the orders (variant and color) received. Deliveries would mostly start towards the end of the year.

Re: Field trials of the 4-door Mahindra Thar begin!

I think it's a great idea to start production early so that adequate no of press vehicles and test drive vehicles will be available right from launch day itself. With the Scorpio-N, there was quite a big delay from the media drive to the vehicles being available at dealerships.

There's also the fact that nothing pushes bookings more than seeing actual cars on the road. There will always be fence-sitters who won't make a booking until they've seen the actual vehicle.

In the Scorpio-N, where the new engine and powertrain were being fitted on this ladder frame chassis for the first time, especially with that much power and torque at hand, there would have been a lot to test and iron out, even at launch.

With the Armada, any platform related issues are already tackled, and they can be more confident at launch. That said, the media drive will inevitably reveal some issues, and I hope those are addressed before the cars reach the buyers. We don't want another repeat of the Scorpio-N sunroof issue, which caused embarrassment on a global level for Mahindra.

Indeed, my initial thoughts were the same but then how else do you justify the news of manufacturing starting from June?

If that’s the case, why are they ‘assuming’ the demand when they can get the actual demand for each variant by unveiling the vehicle and start accepting the bookings?

Re: Field trials of the 4-door Mahindra Thar begin!

Was searching for updates on the Thar 5 door and noticed that the Mahindra website mentions the Thar as a 4 and 6 seater SUV. Any thoughts on these numbers?

Maybe a version with bench seats in rear? That's the only justification one can have for a "6 seater".

It is the real deal for off-roaders which the LWB will be able to match.

* However, the 5 door variant will be absolutely practical for those long drives with 4 to 5 occupants with luggage.
* The already wide stance and the long wheelbase will definitely contribute to better on-road manners with a more stable ride for sure.
* The above two points along with great offroading hardware will make it a hard to resist almost-go-anwhere and highly desirable vehicle. Our own local Wrangler or dare I say a wannabe hummer

The LWB/5-door definitely needs to come with additional power and torque to handle the additional weight.
I have skepticism about this model so far. In general, I am so skeptical about the attempt to combine it with an all-terrain vehicle.

This got me excited thinking that the website was getting ready for the 5 door version with the launch getting closer. Could be just a typo though.

Re: Field trials of the 4-door Mahindra Thar begin!

One quick question to current Thar owners:

About the spare wheel. Isn't it a good idea to keep the spare wheel covered under at least water proof cover to keep it safe? Where we live and travel specially in summers, it's pretty hot, wet and at times cold too. How long a brand new tyre will hold temperatures like that for months before it is actually used on one fine day? I don't see many Thars with protective spare wheel covers.

Re: Field trials of the 4-door Mahindra Thar begin!

Good question but:

A. I believe it belongs to the existing thar thread. Here's the link: https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/offic...al-review.html (Mahindra Thar : Official Review)

B. How is the spare wheel different in terms of tolerance than regular tyres on board? If the car is parked in a hot and humid environment, all the tyres would be effected by the heat and humidity more or less equally. Infact, the ones that are running would be more prone to wear and tear ofcourse and after some time, you will find the spare tyre to be in the best condition.

Not denying the importance of wheel cover, it can certainly protect the spare wheel in many cases however heat and humidity is not one of them.

They can also have a 'bench' in the front instead of the split seat and call it '6-seater'

Only way would be the base variants with the side facing bench seats at the rear. So two in the front seats, and four in the rear side facing benches.

Didn't they stop the version with the side facing rear seats?

Any idea if the production has started? It was supposed to begin in June of this year with a probable launch in August.

Re: Field trials of the 4-door Mahindra Thar begin!

The Current Brand Thar is a niche product which is associated with a certain lifestyle or driving preference. The Three Door style gives it a unique identity and thus have a desirability quotient associated with it.

IMHO, creating a Five Door Thar Armada will dilute this Brand (From Lifestyle oriented to Utility oriented. Thar Armada looks more like a next generation Bolero rather than a Five Door Thar.
