I hope that Mahindra does get E-locker in the Thar making it much superior.

We will always have the Thar 3-door for hardcore off-roading. But there were many potential buyers who absolutely loved the Thar design but had to back off for it's many impracticalities while travelling with the family.

In my view, Mahindra has done the right thing by listening to it's customers and bringing a more rounded product to the masses. It is now more appealing in a way that everyone can enjoy. And that is never a bad thing!

My guess is Mahindra will completely reposition the ScorpioN, give it more features (everything the 5 door Thar gets plus some) and take it to the 18-28 lakh range. The XUV700 could go to 20-30 lakh range. This will then leave the 12-20 lakh range to bring in the 5-door Thar. This strategy will mean the Thar would have to have slightly lower engine specs than the ScorpioN to match the positioning.

Once the initial Lifestyle vehicle demand from the urban consumer base is satisfied, I would envision a long and healthy product lifecycle for the 5 door Thar, reigning the rural market. It would be the ideal go anywhere people mover, which can also be configured to accommodate goods movement. Ultimately, there could be a rebadged variant of this vehicle with side facing rear seats, that can ultimately seat 8 and can be a successor to the family line of the original, legendary Mahindra Major and Bolero family, as well as other such rugged vehicles from the Jeep MM540 lineage that are fit for rural people and produce transport, which do not yet have a worthy successor.

Re: Field trials of the 4-door Mahindra Thar begin!

Thank goodness for the 1.5L engine in the RWD variant. Having driven this engine extensively in 3 different vehicles (XUV300, Marazzo, That RWD), I am confident that it will do the job 'well' in the 4-door Thar RWD variant. It is smooth, fuel efficient, and has enough power as well. Thar is not vehicle meant to be spiritedly driven so I am okay with the power output of this motor. For enthusiasts, the big diesel and petrol are on offer.

Re: Field trials of the 4-door Mahindra Thar begin!

This is good news.
If Thar comes with added ADAS (even few basics) it will be a fantastic drive.
I am waiting for Renault Duster launch depending on what they offer at what price point my next buy will depend on that.
I am totally in for a proper SUV which can take me to Ladakh every alternate year and few East Indian drives without a fuss.

There are tons of Thar enthusiasts who wanted to own it but can't because they have family and kids who want comfortable interiors and extra doors.

I really do hope Mahindra learns from Jimnys mistakes regarding interior comfort and hits a home run with the Thar Armada. This has the potential to be a primary car for lot of families!

Somehow, all the computer generated renders for the upcoming 5 door version wasn’t accurate( from my point of view).. I tried doing some painting tool edits.. Figured it’s best left to the professionals.

Is there anyone in our forum who can take a stab at a render based on the most recent images above?

I feel we can save our collective efforts when the imminent unveil is not that far. No matter how good these digital renders are, the final product is always different in some way or another so let's just see the beast it its entirely glory once its officially released.

Thar 5 door spotted again with ADAS camera and sunroof. Speaker placement is exactly same as 3 door Thar.

In the age of cars having chopped off front-end and back-end, I'm absolutely loving that massive front bumper.

I genuinely can't wait for the 5 door Thar. IMO, the only thing that Mahindra needs to nail is the ride quality, everything else looks good so far in the spy shots.

This instead feels like they're butchering the brand value for more sales. For me, the Thar brand name was never something that should've been a family pleaser. But unfortunately that is how the market is shaped. Can't really blame Mahindra either! They are doing their best.
Perhaps you're right, turning the Jimmy into a 4 door variant has turned out to be both a marketing and sales disaster!

Somehow Mahindra knows this crowd better than any other manufacturer. Plus more than satisfying the 'off roader tag' driven egos in cities, there's a huge rural market that Mahindra serves, who needs the Thars off roading prowess for day to day travel, along with the utilitarian benefits of 4 doors. This is not a family car, but it's an off roader capable of carrying families.
