I haven't seen it in person but from what I see in the photographs the Roxx is more Bolero'ish rather than Thar'ish. I can't put my finger on why but this gives an impression of a people mover and not an off-roader/lifestyle vehicle. That sloping roof doesn't do it any favors.My local store owner has a Bolero and to the average Joe this will look like Bolero Luxury variant and not a 5 door Thar, at-least that is what my wife called it at first. I hope this changes when I see it in person.

Also, this will not dent the Creta and Seltos much. This is too butch, macho and rugged for most families. The 700 which is more family oriented also doesn't become the default choice since it doesn't feel as premium and well put together as a Seltos. The Roxx will have an even bigger mind block to overcome.

Given the number of mods done on any exisiting 3D Thar, M&M should've tapped into that market pulse. They should've homologated and released at least one variant with -ve offset rims, Maxxis tyres, snorkel, additional lamps, cloth interior if nothing as a poster car to really bring in the WOW factor. With this it seems they picked a safe middle ground. I am still waiting for an OEM to release such a variant in India and this was the right time for M&M to do it. Well, if wishes were horses!

• Will there be any Thar 3Door facelift with similar specs of Roxx (maybe 2025 Independence Day)?
Even though I'm not too fond of a sunroof on hardcore offroaders, I definitely wish to have MY SKY feature of Jeep Renegade on the metal hardtop version of Thar 3Door.

• What are the XUV700 and Scorpio-N waitlist customers thinking now?
I believe there will be some spillover from there to here. It means, Mahindra might not lose customers to another car company.

• What about the discounts on XUV700 and ScorpioN now?

Moreover, after Roxx, Mahindra does not seem to have any new ICE projects. Everything new is BEVs only.

Did a quick check on comparing the MX5 Petrol AT 2WD vs ScorpioN Z8 Select Petrol AT vs ScorpioN Z8 Select Diesel AT. They're priced at Rs. 22.36L vs 23.21L vs 23.82L On-road respectively. I felt that space-wise and feature-wise the ScorpioN is a much-sorted car for the marginal additional price over the Thar ROXX. Many have already pointed out the odd-looking C-pillar and sloping roof in comparison with the rest of the car.

Mahindra's big plans for brand THAR!



- M&M eyes an annual output of 1 lakh units for Thar; plans to make it a mainstream brand

- The company has planned a monthly production of 9500 units of Thar 3 door and Thar Roxx. This will help the company attain growth of mid-teens in FY-25.

- Mahindra plans a monthly output of 6,500 units for its lifestyle SUV, which also has off-road capabilities. Along with the Thar 3 door, it is planning to produce 9,500 units per month, according to the company.

- Mahindra has invested about Rs 1000 crore in the Thar Roxx.

-The company will build a portfolio of models on this platform (GYLDE) in the future to appeal to a wider audience.

-M&M is already a revenue leader with a market share of 21%. It is the number two SUV maker in the country behind Maruti Suzuki, which has a share of 19%.

-The Thar Roxx will have a distinct buyer from the Scorpio N SUV; however, M&M agrees that the 3-door Thar will be somewhat cannibalized.

-The 3-door Thar currently sells about 4000 to 4500 units per month. M&M has already reduced the future production plan to 3000 units per month, factoring in some form of cannibalisation, whereas the new 5-door Thar Roxx is scheduled for a monthly.production of 6500 units.

-Prices of the 4X4 version will be announced before the booking starts. (Oct. 3)

- About 50% of the Thar 3-door sales come from the 4X4 version; M&M expects the share to be much lower with the Thar Roxx.

-The company will likely offer only diesel 4X4 for now; eventually, it may consider a petrol 4X4 to expand the range.

-Thar Roxx will appeal to multiple sub-segments and create its growth path.

- Dispatches for the “Dusshera” festival will begin on 12 October.

This is just random out of context question:

If the bonnet locks are outside and there is no lever to open the bonnet like in other cars, anyone can open the bonnet when the car is parked right? Any stranger can damage the car when it's parked in a 'not so safe parking' or maybe even out of spite.

Isn't it an extremely dangerous thing where anyone can mess with the crucial place of the vehicle. Is the bonnet lock connected to the central locking system by any way?

I see Mahindra has opened "Add your preference" option similar to what was done for Scorpion-N where you could select preferred variant before bookings opened.

Has anyone tried save preference option on Mahindra site yet? I see banner on the page indicating that price at delivery times will be applicable. Is this an indicator there may not be any price protection when bookings open for Roxx on 3rd October?

The bonnet release mechanism on the Thar 3D is cable-operated like in other cars. To open the bonnet, release the clips first. Then open the driver's door and pull the cable-release lever below the dash-mounted speaker.

To secure the bonnet, close it down and re-engage the clips.

As you now know, the main function of the clips is, adding character. I have heard that the clips keep the bonnet secure during extreme offroad events, I am not sure.

Also you're not really completely wrong either, in a soft top Thar 3D anyone who can gain access into the cabin can also open the bonnet. But then, the Roxx has no soft top...

Gorgeous car! Doesn't look weird at all like in the earlier pictures. Imo does not look like the wrangler at all, reminds me of the Mahindra mm540.

Ever since I saw the grill for the first time (along with the circular headlamps) I keep getting reminded how closely its design resembles a "wagh nakh" weapon, which Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj used on Afzal Khan. (Pic attached) It will be more apt to name this grill design as "WAGNAQ" grill instead of the cringey "6 pack grill"

Or may be, they could have named the car itself as MAHINDRA WAGNAQ or THAR WAGNAQ. We would have gotten used to the name in a few weeks. After all, did we ever have a Indian name for a car sold in India after (Premier) Padmini? Isn't it time we start having Indian names for cars?

According to the prices in Carwale , on road price of top variant 2WD AT ROXX and Creta is practically the same. While we predicted prices to be somewhat in the vicinity of Creta, never expected it to be this close.

How this is going to play out in the next few months is unclear however at this point they have managed to mess up the marketing efforts of various other vehicles with this media blitz.
