Mercedes-Benz has announced that it plans to launch two new models next month. The CLE Cabriolet and GLC 43 Coupe will be launched in the Indian market on August 8, 2024. Both models will be imported as completely built units (CBUs).



The CLE Cabriolet is a 2-door 4-seat convertible based on Mercedes’ Modular Rear Architecture (MRA). It features a low-slung grille, flanked by wraparound LED headlamps similar to the new E-Class and comes with a fabric roof. Inside, the CLE gets a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the centre.

Reports suggest that Mercedes could offer either, the CLE 300 4Matic or 450 4Matic variant in India. Both variants feature a mild-hybrid powertrain paired with a 9-speed automatic gearbox.



The new Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupe is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine paired with a mild-hybrid system. It delivers 415 BHP and 500 Nm and is paired with a 9-speed automatic gearbox.

The GLC 43 Coupe is equipped with all-wheel drive and also gets rear-wheel steering, adjustable dampers and performance brakes as standard.

I hope they price CLE lower than Z4 to cover the handicap for missing 2 cylinders. But given the way they priced SL-55, I have doubts. No wonder SL is hardly selling and Discounts are over 15 Lac.

There is a demand for a Cabriolet as the third or fourth car in the family. But given the expected low demand, MB India may focus on profits and price around 1,10ish

Mercedes is slowly learning the lesson that reality has caught up with pricing in the Indian luxury car market. Mercedes has single-handedly driven luxury car prices to unrealistic levels, by overpricing literally every single launch to the point that in the last 3 years prices of each segment had gone up so sharply as to overlap with where prices were for the next higher segment. The C-Class today costs as much as the E-Class did during COVID, the A-Class Limo costs as much as the C-Class did and so on. Other luxury car makers are also to blame but they have not been as greedy as Mercedes. BMW has increased prices sharply as well also but offers value products such as the M340i and the new 530i LWB which are prices very close to global prices. I think it is high time Mercedes has had a wake up call and is discounting the GLC and other products sharply recently. I hope they are sane with the pricing of the new GLC 43 AMG Coupe, and price it around 80 lakhs ex-showroom. But that is a pipe dream withe the kind of import duties we have here. In the US, the GLC 4 AMG retails for around $70K. Assuming 20% margin, the invoice cost would be $55K. With import duties of 100% into India, we are looking at a cost price of $110K (90Lakhs, plus margin). BMW managed to bring an equivalent vehicle (the X4 M40i) at 96 lakhs earlier this year. This should be the benchmark price for Mercedes for the GLC 43 AMG.

1.1 crore ex-showroom for the CLE Cabriolet and 1.11 crore ex-showroom for the GLC 43 coupe.

I guess this will only help move X3 M40i X4 M40i and Z4.

Mercedes-Benz CLE 300 Cabriolet launched at Rs 1.10 crore

Mercedes-Benz has announced the launch of the CLE Cabriolet in India. The 2-door convertible is available in a single variant (CLE 300) priced at Rs 1.10 crore (ex-showroom).



The CLE 300 Cabriolet is based on Mercedes’ Modular Rear Architecture (MRA) platform. It features a long hood with a low-set grille, giving it a shark-nose effect. The car rides on 19-inch AMG alloy wheels and comes with a retractable fabric roof, which can be raised or lowered in 20 seconds at a speed of up to 60 km/h.

The interior of the CLE 300 Cabriolet is similar to the current C-Class. It features a 3-spoke steering wheel with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a portrait-style 11.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the centre. The car also gets ventilated AMG sports seats.

Powering the CLE 300 Cabriolet is a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. It produces 255 BHP and 400 Nm and is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. Mercedes claims the CLE Cabriolet can sprint from 0-100 km/h in 6.6 seconds and has a top speed of 250 km/h.

Mercedes may not be expecting lot of sales. They should be happy to sell it as a third or fourth car to its existing customers.

I could be wrong but the cheapest hard top convertible available in India currently might be the ferrari Portofino.
These are 4 seater convertibles and hence the roof length is longer. You can't have them in hard top. Don't think Mercedes has a single hard top in their liine up globally.

An S class and convertible butter and user are totally independent and it is very much possible that a cabrio shares garage with the S. You can get good 221 S classes at 10 lacs range which is a wonderful option.

I have recently got an E400 cabriolet. It is a stunning car and I am truly astonished why more aren't sold.

It really baffles me how Mercedes India gets away consistently with such horrible pricing. The worst part is that people are still flocking to the dealerships despite these outrageous costs. If I recall correctly, the W205 C-Class was in the 50-60 price bracket just a few years back. The new one is now in the 75-90 bracket. I cannot come to terms with these numbers, especially when you consider the fact that the new one is barely any better than the W205.
