June 2024 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

NOTES:

1: Thanks to the team at Auto Punditz for sharing these sales numbers with us!

2: Only cars that sell 500+ uni6ts (and thus, the relevant ones) have been included in the gainers & losers chart.

3. These manufacturer-reported sales numbers are factory dispatches to dealerships. They are NOT retail sales figures to end customers.

Re: June 2024 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

VW and Skoda numbers look pretty decent considering their petrol only portfolio and the usual VW group ownership nonsense.

Nissan Magnite is proving to be a constant performer, considering the brand image, dicey future and their single car portfolio.

Another month, another worryingly low Honda sales performance. The new Amaze should help a bit. Guess they really need more products to improve sales numbers.

Renault needs a huge revamp across their portfolio. I feel all of their products are old and boring.
Tata needs the Curvv to close the gap between Hyundai and them.

Commendable performance by Mahindra with their almost SUV only portfolio.

Innova numbers are staggering IMO, does it really sell that much!?

Good to see highly capable but under-rated Elevate and Ignis showing some signs of improvement.

The C2 segment leader Creta continuous to hold the Hyundai flag flying high, but what is surprising is the underperformance of Exter, when you realize the Punch in the same segment does so well.

For me there is nothing that explains Exter's underperformance, except its quirky looks and its interior's uncanny resemblance to dated i10.

Analyzing the D2 Segment trends, it is evident that introducing the Ford Endeavour in India is crucial in this segment.

Re: June 2024 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Its been a long time since I checked the monthly sales figures thread. Was pleasantly surprised to see Punch on top. And they have been selling approximate 18K cars every month for the last 4-5 months. Thats a phenomenal progress for Tatas.

Its high time Maruti brings in new models or refreshes the existing ones to keep the interest. For example, I guess the Ignis and Ciaz are still the same first gen models.

Re: June 2024 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Nissan Magnite selling 2x the Kiger is surprising. Renault has better brand value, more no of showrooms and after sales, but still how is it possible?

Till October 2023 Harrier used to sell around 2500-3000 units, now the combined sales of Harrier and Safari is 2500-3000 units. Is it because of the over pricing of the facelifted version?

I wanna know who was that 1 person who bought the Superb?

Re: June 2024 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

With the Exter dropping to number 20, Hyundai might be left with only the Venue as a companion for the Creta in the Top 20 list. I don't think that's an ideal situation for the number 2 manufacturer.

Tata now has 2 vehicles in the Top 10 list, while Maruti now has 6 vehicles (down from 7 last month) in the Top 10 list.

The Tata Punch is back to regain its number 1 spot, pushing the Maruti Swift to number 2. The Tata Punch is really fighting it out for the number 1 spot with Maruti.

Wholesales data for the past six months reveals that Tata Motors has witnessed month-on-month declines for the past five months (as depicted in the two data tables below for Q1 FY2025 and H1 CY2024). January 2024’s sales of 53,633 units were up 23% on December 2023’s 43,470 units.

Re: June 2024 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Creta's domination in the C2 SUV segment is just mind boggling. What a hit!

What's happening to the Seltos's numbers? Not looking good. There are 2023 models still eating dust in dealers' stockyards with very few takers. Definitely not a capacity constraint. The newly introduced GTX trim and colour option in the X line trim will hopefully revive interest and bring in more numbers. We really need better competition in the segment which is being dominated by one single product.

Idk what exactly is the problem with Kia, they are neither able to sell their existing / old stock nor are they giving any confirmation on these newly launched trims viz. GTX.

The moment you call and ask about these, they claim tall wait times (wonder which world they are living in) and try to convince you to go for the higher trims which are readily available.

Got to know from a dealer source that Kia is trying to liquidate the existing inventory before starting to dispatch the freshly launched trims. Now I’m not sure which news is correct.

But for sure, this isn’t going to work for long for Kia. Their supposed flagship SUV is already slowing down on sales MOM and with recent price corrections from the likes of M&M, people will soon find better value in jumping up a segment for a few lakhs. Needless to say, the Creta wouldn’t be affected by any of this.

Re: June 2024 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

It may be a bit of a concern for Mahindra that almost all its high volume cars barring the 700 are showing a dip in dispatches. I think it is part of the overall phenomenon of car sales drying up across the market. If rural segment continues to hold the trend then there might be further trouble.
