This is the third time punch has overtaken the Maruti to secure first place in the past four months.

Looks like punch EV cannibalising Nexon EV sales. Nexon dropped from 15-16k to 12k units per month.

If TAMO releases both EV and ICE curvv at the same time, it may further dent the Nexon sales.

Well said. Discounts, offers and price corrections have already begun (with Mahindra, Tata, Kia among the notable ones). Been getting numerous calls from Kia dealers who are ready to offer unprecedented discounts on the 2024 Seltos (some even have 2023 models collecting dust, LOL). Funny because these are the same dealers who were unwilling to offer home test drives just a few months ago. Guess reality has struck them hard, bringing them back down to earth. Indeed, a good time to be a consumer in the car market .

How do jeep dealerships survive with 300 odd sales nationwide? Might be a good time to eke out some good discounts!

Grand Vitara and Nexon seems to be facing some heat from Mahindra 3XO.

Dispatches have more or less stabilized over the last few months, and then dealers are offering discounts. Does it mean the supply (production) has peaked but demand has remained the same?

Grand Vitara and Mahindra's 3XO are not of the same segment.

Dear Honda, Renault-Nissan Group & Volkswagen Group - you really have to step up your game or move upmarket (like you used to) to avoid becoming irrelevant. Dear Stellantis, you might as well leave the Indian market except for some imported Jeeps like the Wrangler. No one will probably even notice!

Jeep + Citroen combined numbers are 620! Yes, thats the number of cars that they have managed to sell in the Indian sub-continent. Fiat had been in India for almost all of Indian Industrialization. It is a pity that the company that gave wheels to Indians, has no sense of Indian automobile market anymore. I love Citroen as a brand, will I buy it? No!

Safari and Harrier not doing well does not bode well for Tata. Same with the Nexon. Considering that all three facelifts have the same design language, I might just theorize that perhaps the looks have not gone down well with the public. The 3XO not exactly hitting the 5 digit mark in its 2nd month may also have something to do with the polarizing design…
Maybe its just me…

We tend to forget that the Nexon is heading into it's 8th year and is kept relevant in the market by it's timely refreshes. 11k+ units monthly is truly impressive despite the competition. Big thanks to the stellar X1 platform.

Harrier/Safari needs a petrol engine option like 2 years ago! With more and more people switching over from diesels, it's staggering not offering a petrol option.

Looks are IMO definitely not the problem for Harrier/Safari. They have simply hit it out of the park in terms of looks alone. The consistent niggles and after sales horrors may have caused decline in sales.

Nexon may have been affected due to the looks factor. It looks very egg like in this new shape (just like OG Nexon). But even then I believe the Punch is affecting Nexon more than any other factor. That said, the sales numbers for Nexon are still commendable.

Since its just factory dispatches its too early to comment on 3XO's numbers.

VAG should understand that car size is important for a market like us, Taigun/Kushaq might look good on their own but when people see a Creta/Seltos it is difficult to ignore the difference in road presence.

Virtus/Slavia on the other hand have the proportionate size to their advantage along with the looks. Even with more number of dealerships, better interiors, better feature set, cheaper price and negativity for VAG in general, Hyundai is not able to outsell the VAG twins with the Verna.

They don't have any cars in the 20-30L segment and Skoda/VW should try to bring in a CKD Octavia/TROC/TAOS between 25-30L range.

Very true. My cousin too picked up the Baleno Zeta v/s the Fronx Delta just a few months back. We practically didn't see anything worthy of the premium the Fronx is charging. Infact, the Zeta variant of Baleno is loaded vis a vis Fronx Delta for practically the same price.

If you ask me(6ft height), I found the Baleno to be relatively better in space than the Fronx.

This is so satisfying to read this I tell you! It had indeed gotten way too far, and a serious correction was much needed. Hope other manufacturers to learn this soon and start doing the needful.

You're right! The initial hype of the 3XO seems to be diminishing and with all the 'usual fiasco' of M&M with the initial hyped booking and delivery process, they will further lose the customers they have in hand. Read on the forum - there are numerous BHPians who are complaining about the mess with M&M bookings and stuff. Wonder if they have even started delivering the top variants or just betting on the AX5's? I won't be surprised if we see some discounts pouring in on the 3XO soon.

Re: June 2024 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

The lower numbers could also be attributed to the upcoming Union Budget. There's a rumor going around that the central government might introduce some middle-class friendly sops to boost domestic consuption.

Fact is, because of mindless populism towards farmers & other groups by politicians, the tax burden on middle class has reached a critical level. The average salaried family man/woman is left with less free money than 10 years ago due to inflation & upward revision in everything from healthcare, kids's schooling, food costs, house rents etc.

The back of the middle class is already bent. Any further tax burden & the back will break for sure; and with that the Indian consumption-led economy.

Tell me about it .

By the way, one of the dealers let us take extended test drives of the Seltos 7DCT and D AT. 30 minutes each! At our place! For free! Okay, just exaggerating . Will share my observations shortly.

But yes, just got back from the drives and you could really figure out the difference in their approach. Same folks used to ask you to visit the showroom for a short test drive and wouldn't offer any discounts. The tables have turned and how! Feels like the consumer is a king again.
