I visited a nexa dealer in Noida and was shocked to learn that there is almost no road tax on the hybrid variants. I can't find any government statements other than this news article. Why isn't everyone talking about this?

Please ask them to share the price list of the NA versions too. If they didn't include road tax in NA also, then most probably they're excluding it from the price list because of the different fees for private/corporate/BH series registration.

A dealer friend told me on a night out day-before although couldn't find anything online so I had refrained from posting this. His words on the RTO fees;

Hybrids under 1cr - Rs. 600/- (Flat fee)
Hybrids over 1cr - Rs. 5000/- (Flat fee)

but it seems to be 2100/- per your post.

Yes, indeed, this news seems to be true.

Of late I have been getting calls from various dealers, specially Honda for its City Hybrid, informing about this big saving.

FYI, City Hybrid has now savings upto 3 lac + with the registration tax waiver in UP.

Yup, I was aware of the EV part but the dealership says this started only a few days back. It's so recent that most dealers in NCR have no idea when I called around.

I had visited a Toyota showroom at Kanpur, 2 days back, with a friend who was eyeing Hycross. The salesman mentioned, at least thrice, that the hybrid variant has NIL road-tax.

This is an extremely progressive step, but I think reduced Road Tax should be the way to go. Hybrids though efficient are not completely non-polluting.

When was the Japanese business delegation in UP - Few months back.

Is this the ploy of legacy car makers from Japan to capture the market indirectly, make inroads for hybrids and whatever losses borne by the state exchequer will be compensated.

Cynical mind .

PS - What's the status for road tax for EVs or is it only for hybrids?
