Made my day and so true. One really has to get the formula right in this segment (Ertiga and Innova) or face untimely death (Hexa, Marazzo). Toyota definitely understands this and have three strong products in its lineup (Crysta, Hycross and Rumion).

I am sure all of you will have a lot to talk about someone who sent all of you there. While you all had untimely deaths, I hear your mass murderer (Ertiga and Eeco sure have some good hiding skills) is unfazed by depreciation aging and joyfully struts around. Don't know what elixir of eternal youth he gets to drink.
Amen!
Lol good one there !
And don't forget the Chevrolet Enjoy, Renault Lodgy and the Nissan Evalia also, the popular cab cars of one time.

re: Mahindra Marazzo removed from official website | EDIT: Now back!

I had the opportunity to self drive a rented Marazzo for over a 1000km in 2020. Was a lovely car in all respects except - looks and image.

It was a family trip but end of the trip everyone mentioned that while the car was easy to drive and comfortable they wouldn't buy vs an innova even it was much cheaper.

It could have been a good alternative to Ertiga had it not get the step motherly treatment from her own mother itself.

re: Mahindra Marazzo removed from official website | EDIT: Now back!

Very sad. We now have only the highly expensive Hycross or unsafe Ertiga/Carens/Rumion to choose from.

Before Covid started, I was very much inclined to replace my 2012 Ertiga with a better and safer option. Marazzo ticked everything except one thing that caught my attention in the review - No anti stall feature. It was equally important for me as I use the Ertiga in city frequently.

Post Covid due to changes in circumstances the urge to change Ertiga has reduced as I almost never do outstation drives myself.

I think Mahindra silently fixed this. My 2019 December manufactured Marazzo has it. It automatically increases the revs of the engine as the clutch starts engaging.

re: Mahindra Marazzo removed from official website | EDIT: Now back!

My 2 cents why Marazzo failed -
- It started with a wrong name of the product. For me the design was ok, but it was quirky for many, and the taillights were super-size which did not gel well with the design. It was too much focus on the shark them rather than thinking what's pleasing for the eye.
- The price increase in Marazzo took it farther away from Ertiga and closer to Innova. And entering into Innova market segment is like entering death road. It was costly for Ertiga owners to buy and those looking more than Ertiga were happy to shell out and get the Toyota brand.
- Maruti worked on Ertiga and brought their new models with significant upgrades. Ertiga would nearly do 90% of work what a Marazzo can.
- Most Ertiga owner use all the seats for within city travel or max short intercity visits. For the highways it was Innova with more space bigger engine, super reliability and a far bigger brand name. Marazzo was left with very few reasons to justify its higher cost than Ertiga.
- Ertiga has a smaller footprint than Marazzo and that proves to be useful in cities. Marazzo had bigger footprint and hence it fell in competition with Innova. But in comparison to Innova it had a smaller engine, lesser grunt and the lack of capability to cruise highways with ease with full load.
- In 2018 people were less concerned about safety than now. Marazzo had better safety than Ertiga but failed to encash that advantage.
- For the weight of the Marazzo giving a petrol engine was a big No as it would be less fuel efficient. The less fuel efficiency would be a big No, because no one associates a van
with performance in India whereas a XUV 700 with petrol engine having less mileage is acceptable. But then times had changed, and Diesel was inching closer to its extinction due to emission norms.
- The front wheel drive and a chassis platform made it extremely difficult for Mahindra to upgrade and bring new models based on Marazzo.
- The biggest problem was that there was hardly a Rs 50,000 on road difference left between the much capable old Scorpio and the Marazzo. Scorpio had its own aura and people compromised space for the better engine and capabilities of the Scorpio.

Interesting, I didn't know it was a body-on-frame, was thinking it is monocoque shell.

Nope.
That is IMO the reason for its failure. It could have been monocoque and FWD like Ertiga or it could have been BoF amd RWD like the Innova.

Alas, Mahindra experimented and made it BoF with FWD. Neither here nor there.

...and just like that, the Marazzo is back, albeit with slightly hiked prices for all its variants -

https://auto.mahindra.com/suv/marazzo/MRZO.html

A Tamil automotive website had alerted me to this new development this morning on my Google newsfeed and sure enough, when I checked this out on the Mahindra website for veracity tonight - there she swims in all her un-purchased glory, dorsal fin slicing through the air defiantly with hiked prices. She's literally the one that gets away from everyone and very few ever get her (puns intended & sic.)

Man, 2024 is all about unexpected comebacks. Mahindra has listed the Marazzo again on its website and the bookings are also open now.

But wait a minute, Is Marazzo a SUV?

Just for my sake, please go to the showroom, pop the hood, and ask them to remove the battery to check the water or something

Re: Mahindra Marazzo removed from official website | EDIT: Now back!

Hope they introduce a 1.5L petrol variant. If a 1.2L turbo petrol works for a 1.3ton XUV300, 1.5L turbo petrol should be fine for Marazzo. FE will be low, but still suitable for those without high running.

Thanks for the update. They even seem to have updated the accessories brochure as well. Shows management has some interest in keeping the product alive. Being a happy customer for the past four years now, I hope Mahindra gives it the attention that it deserves.

Body on frame with front wheel drive is not a popular set up in automobiles but that does not mean it must necessarily cause the product to fail in the market. Matador van and pickup truck in the 1970s and 80s used the same set up and the product was quite successful in those days.
