re: Mahindra Marazzo removed from official website | EDIT: Now back!

It was a good MPV developed by the Mahindra North American division IIRC, in line with the market demands, felt like Mahindra always treated it like a step child. No major updates, no petrol, no AMT or ATs. Quite a radical platform with ladder-frame and FWD, the platform was never used in any Mahindra I guess.

Had a test drive in 2020 and was impressed by the space, overall quality of the cabin as well as the pricing, engine was adequate but better than ERTIGA for sure.
Mahindra projected it against HEXA, and both lost sales. Marazzo had good potential against Ertiga and XL6, with multiple powertrains but Mahindra ignored it completely after the covid.
Owners are quite happy with the product as observed, but with just 45K units sold body parts availability will be a tough job in the future.

re: Mahindra Marazzo removed from official website | EDIT: Now back!

I got to travel in the Marazzo from Pune to Mumbai, really liked the space and interiors.

I honestly feel there are no takers for MPVs in the 16-20 lakh range. If at all, they need to be marketed as SUVs like the Hyundai Alcazar. pure SUVs like ScorpioN look more appealing than MPVs and the base variants were killed by Ertiga.

I think you got to ride in a poorly maintained cab with probably blown shock absorbers. I have the car for the past 4 years. It is lovely car and really shines in the space and comfort department.

re: Mahindra Marazzo removed from official website | EDIT: Now back!

The car was a good package but with not much updates and aggression.

Guess the company didn't bother about the car because they had their hands full with the Xuv700, Scorpio and of course Thar.

I heard many stories of how the car was difficult to service due to the limited space available in the engine bay.

Had they provided a good Automatic and option of a petrol engine, it could have improved the options for the car.

Apart from the IT companies using it in their fleet, haven't seen the car much in Bangalore.
Similar to Xylo I guess, but the Xylo had got the basics right atleast I believe.

Marazzo was waiting to be removed from the portfolio long before. Reality showed up and How can a SHARK sustain on ROAD? Inspirations from some land animal would have helped

Great car and was seen as a Innova competitor. Did ~10K in the beginning and slowly declined. Mahindra did not show interest in reviving it

re: Mahindra Marazzo removed from official website | EDIT: Now back!

I think the issue is of maintaining multiple platforms at the same time. The sales were clearly not justifying running all these in parallel. Also, they have started the production of Thar Armada, so they need all the energies concentrated on manufacturing cars which are selling (and some of them are selling like hot cakes).

Also, slightly digressing a little bit, but Mahindra should use its efforts on quality control and not become Tata Motors while managing it product line up

My 2 cents here! Mahindra over the years has shifted its focus from a manufacturing people mover company to niche manufacturer. Look at Scorpio, XUV 700 or Thar, they exactly know their target market and they would not mind if fleet owners show lesser interest in their product. Leave Bolero all alone. Our police departments will ensure decent numbers there. On top of that what hampered Marazzo’s sale was probably Xylo’s reputation. Xylo was accepted by fleet owners initially but their customers rebuked it because of its ride and handling especially on the highways. I have myself rejected it and was happy to shell out more for an Innova and in fact waited for couple of hours till that Innova was arranged for me. Xylo dented Marazzo’s reputation big time exactly the same way Indica did to Tata. Probably this made Mahindra give that step motherly treatment to its own product as Mahindra wanted its prime products like scorpio and XUV to be distinguished and accepted by the masses easily albeit taking a hit here with Marazzo’s sale.

The hypothesis was tested by Mahindra with TUV 300 and TUV 300 plus. Two good cars, which according to me could have been two good people mover. Imagine the value for money preposition 300 plus offered, yet it was the reputation which costed them. I always felt XUV 300 and 300 plus had much bigger potential than what numbers they actually did but I guess that was the price Mahindra had to pay at that time and now I feel they have moved on the same way TATA’s have in terms of brand perception especially with success of Thar, Scorpio and XUV 700. Regarding fit and finish, service and premium feel, we can discuss later in some another thread.

I have a counter view on this subject. Mahindra built a Body-On-Frame vehicle and over-engineered it to make it Front Wheel Drive vehicle who no one asked for. If you look at engine bay it is small and tight with lot of access issues even for recurring service parts like battery, fuse box, etc.

Also performance was only about adequate and not class leading to make people take notice. They had misplaced priorities, they wanted to target Ertiga but ended up building Innova size vehicle with small heart. You can't do one-up on your relatives, friends, neighbors owning 2.4/2.8 Diesel Innova with 1.5 Diesel Marazzo . That time, 1.5 engine could have been top on their future strategy as 2.2 was only available on XUV5OO and Scorpio while rest XUV3OO, TUV3OO, NuvoSport where using 1.5 Diesel which clearly signals towards 4m class of vehicles. Please correct me if I am wrong.

It falls short of the Innova 2.4L's figure by 6 BHP / ton. The Marazzo's torque-to-weight ratio of 188 Nm / ton is almost on par with the Innova's and again better than the Hexa & Ertiga. That said, it doesn't have that bottom-end grunt of the larger Toyota & Tata engines, which can come in handy with a full load of passengers.

There is no petrol or CNG option available on the Marazzo. With the diesel, no Automatic is offered either. The lack of an AT is a big, big missed opportunity. This car needs a good 6-speed torque converter (Innova and Hexa both have AT variants, as does the smaller Ertiga).

Engine bay is short and even the 1.5L unit is a tight fit. There is incredibly little space to work. Mahindra technicians won't have it easy:

Notice how the engine extends inside. The small bonnet opening makes it terribly difficult to access parts. Even disconnecting and taking out the battery is impossible without removing many other parts. At least the battery should've been easier to access - this is a design failure that will unnecessarily inconvenience owners:

Things are so cramped that even the fuse box cover cannot be easily taken off (I didn't want to break anything):

ECU is bolted on to the firewall. Forget reaching it without professional help:

re: Mahindra Marazzo removed from official website | EDIT: Now back!

I am a Xylo owner in the 11th year and with 85000 kms on board, I love it for the practicality, space and the power it offers. M&M could have done better a lot of things but probably they got lost in trying to satisfy the fleet owners and the consumers alike and eventually failed.

This, more than the lack of petrol or AT, I think is the primary reason for the failure. People look at the shape first before getting into one and test drive. I never liked the looks of it. Not that I have been asking around, but never heard anyone liking its look.

re: Mahindra Marazzo removed from official website | EDIT: Now back!

Last year when I was looking for a proper 6/7 seater family car I briefly considered this as one of my connection got me huge discount on the outgoing prices then, but that too wasn't enough for me to finalise it - overall its that lagging when compared to the ~15L competition (namely Ertiga, Xl6, Carens).
Finally I choose XL6 Alpha+ MT variant in Splendid Silver.

My primary reasons for not choosing Marazzo were:
- Most of my driving is within city limits so didn't want to go for diesel
- Less sales translates to less aftermarket support and parts availability outside of dealer network
- When the company itself is not bothered about their product then why should I be
- Petrol+Automatic option was missing

re: Mahindra Marazzo removed from official website | EDIT: Now back!

I agree with a lot of points posted here, mainly:
1. Mahindra being confused about what segment to aim for (private vs commercial).
2. Horrible engine bay construction. They genuinely struggled to make the AMT version as the cabling and wiring were a pain.
3. 1.5l Engine 'sounded' insufficient to the private customer, even though the fuel economy was good.
4. The name, the advertisement, the looks

I envision the Marazzo succeeding in a different world..
Where the Ertiga does not exist for atleast 3-5 years..
Where Mahindra launches the Marazzo with an AT and a Petrol engine at launch..
Where the packaging efficiency is better. More boot space, better folding seats, sliding middle row.

P.S. The Marazzo may have died, but it did give M&M a lot. The AC vents, the software, the gauge cluster, the seats are all being used in other vehicles.

P.P.S. I worked on the launch of the Marazzo and was part of the Launch Testing and Benchmarking team. People were really happy and proud of the work that was done, but the Ertiga genuinely blindsided us.

Godspeed Marazzo..

Carens is everything that Marazzo wanted to be. Decent sales. In a segment above Ertiga and below Innova. Liked by both - fleet owners and family owners.

re: Mahindra Marazzo removed from official website | EDIT: Now back!

We had one for less than 3 years and drove 82,000kms. Did 4 oil change service(@10k, 30k, 50k, 70k) and bill was around 6k-8k and the inbetween checkups costs around 3k only, service cost was low throughout. Car was slightly more spacious than our other people mover Crysta, except for the boot. Ride was comfortable too. Mileage was good, I used to get 16-17kpl and one time even got 18kpl with speeds below 100km/hr. One of the few cars I'm comfortable to drive at night, even with rains, I'll be seeing properly, not sure if it's because of the height of the headlights.

My only wish was it had 2.2l engine. 1.5 is good for around 4-5 people, adding more people or luggage will result in reduced performance. Climbing hills with 2 adults + 2 kids and luggage also need good driver, put it in wrong gear, it will struggle and also stall at times. In this trip, I could barely keep up with Crysta with 7 onboard and couple bags in the boot.

We only sold it because of my father's passing and we didn't need two 7 seaters. We decided to retain Crysta due to the powerful engine, high resale value and Toyota's durability. I often regret selling that too, but had to do to cut expenses and usage has reduced significantly.

re: Mahindra Marazzo removed from official website | EDIT: Now back!

Dear Marazzo, with your name so close to Hindi phrase Mar jao (Die please), I am not surprised by your fate. Please say hi to Hexa when you meet her in heaven. Check if Tavera, Xylo and Aria are still around. Not sure if Tavera would be around as GM has already left, but you will sure find Xylo and Aria somewhere.
I am sure all of you will have a lot to talk about someone who sent all of you there. While you all had untimely deaths, I hear your mass murderer (Ertiga and Eeco sure have some good hiding skills) is unfazed by depreciation aging and joyfully struts around. Don't know what elixir of eternal youth he gets to drink.
Amen!
