Electric Car sales drive past 40,000 units in H1 2024, up 21%

Sales are driven by new launches like Tata Punch, MG Comet, Mahindra XUV 400, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and BYD Seal.

From the Q4-2024 the market is going to expand with a lot of new launches- Tata CURVV, Tata HARRIER , XUV 700, Citroen C3 aircross, Maruti EVX, Hyundai CRETA and MG CLOUD to name few, everything under 30 Lakhs.

Also Kia, Honda, Jeep are working on their own EV products for India. Interesting times ahead.

I expect this trend to follow over to the future as well. There are more policies being brought in their private sector to have their fleet emission free by 2030.

For instance, my workplace has decided to allow only EV vehicles to be bought via Car lease scheme from 1st Jan 2025.

This is very very interesting indeed. Just curious, does the company get carbon credits for doing this? Just trying to understand the rationale.

EV sales drop 20% in June 2024.

Brands like Tata, Mahindra, MG Motor, Mercedes, BMW and Audi sold a total of 5,562 EVs during the month, down from 6,960 units in June 2023.

1. BYD ATTO3 50KWH Variant - July 2024
2. Mahindra XUV 3XO 35KWH - Nov 2024

Merecedes Benz BEV sales in India grew by 60% in H1 2024.

Launched EQA-70KWH at 66L, EQB 7 seater now starts at 71L.
Plans to launch 2 more EVs by this year.

Electric car and SUV retail sales in August lowest in past eight months.

Mirroring the overall trend in the passenger vehicle market, retail demand for electric vehicles fell by 10% in August. Tata Motors with 4,085 units saw a YoY decline of 14% YoY
January-August sales at 62,931 units are up 18%; sales of luxury EVs dropped 14% to 155 units.

The 6,335 units bought and delivered to customers last month are down 10% year on year (August 2023: 7,012 units). Month on month, the August 2024 sales decline is even sharper – 19% – versus July 2024’s 7,898 units.
