JLR India has introduced a 5-year service plan for new and existing customers across all brands. It will also cover 5 preventive maintenance services, including wear and tear parts.

The 5-year service plan is available to all new customers and those who purchased their vehicles within the last year but have not completed the first periodic service. According to the carmaker, it protects customers from cost inflation on labour and parts.

Mr Rajan Amba, Managing Director, JLR India said, “Client ownership experience and peace of mind is of paramount importance to us at JLR, and it is our constant endeavour to ensure our clients have a seamless, hassle-free and comforting ownership experience. Our new 5-year service plan is curated after extensive market research and client feedback, ensuring the best care possible for all JLR vehicles.”

Re: JLR India announces 5-year service plan for all models

Good move by JLR. However, I doubt if this will significantly boost its sales. Cars priced above 1 Cr are typically purchased by businesses, which use them for 5 years, claim depreciation, and then sell them for a profit. Over the years, JLR has developed a strong reputation for poor reliability, which affects their resale value negatively. In fact, JLR cars are among the least demanded in the used car market.

If JLR follows Lexus and introduces an 8-year warranty on its cars, things might improve. But I doubt if JLR, or any car manufacturer other than Toyota/Lexus, will have the guts to take that risk.
