I love the car but would never buy one simply because I would not be able to live with the cabin experience. Even the original Ecosport and global Fiesta suffered from interior design that simply did not age well and drew attention to poor quality plastics.
Global Fiesta doesn't have a spacious rear but has one of the best front seats and is ergonomically perfect.

This is the most sensible answer. However, do note that the Accords and Camry's are not easy on the pocket. They can cost a bomb to fix if something goes wrong.

The most undervalued car in my opinion is a Force Gurkha:
What are some undervalued cars in India?-download-5.jpeg

1. No one touches it with a barge pole as they believe that Force only makes commercial vehicles
2. Even ones who know about it don't like its agricultural drive
3. Even people who are okay with that are worried about niggles.

All these = I picked up a single-owner, 50K run, 2014 Gurkha for ~2.75 lakhs in 2020.

Yes, the Gurkha has it's niggles. However the parts are cheap as they are interchangeable with commercial Force models. We fitted the steering column of the 2023 model into our 2014 vehicle.

The net result = more eyeballs when you go out on road.

Re: What are some undervalued cars in India?

Scross 1.6 and undervalued?! Seriously ?! Look this forum up, when it was launched it was over priced. Hence the dud sales. No way it was undervalued. It was over priced and Indian car market has always been over priced for what it offers.

I managed to get a steal deal on my 2015 Punto 90hp at 7.5 L on road. Top end model, with 16 inch rims, Blue and me and blah blah. It still is my daily drive and no rattles/issues whatsoever.

Re: What are some undervalued cars in India?

I got my XUV300 in April 2023 W6 version for around 12.4L on road. Instead of going for W8, I settled for lower version and added Mahindra OEM alloys, armrest and spoiler. My car came to around 13.2L on road, which I think is a good deal and value for money. Highlight is 5 star safety and 300Nm engine which is unbeatable. I only miss the touchscreen music system which I plan to upgrade to next year.

I think you left Ford 1.6 Fusion Petrol in ford cars. Excellent beauty for a suv also fuel efficient in early days and above all vfm car

Re: What are some undervalued cars in India?

I don't think any of the cars are undervalued here.

Under appreciated? Yes! Many of us mentioned likes of S-Cross, Fiesta, Punto Abarth etc. I feel they all were under appreciated but there were reasons for their failure in India (over priced, under equipped, safety, F.E etc - Basically lack of VFM)

In my opinion, these are true undervalued cars. After all, it still maintains 80% to 90% functionality of a new car at 20% to 30% of its original on road price.
I read your content on the forum and have respect for you. But when I check the used car websites, They are selling 2016 Swifts and i20s in 6L. Where are you finding these deals? Am I looking in wrong place?

I think, these days everything is overpriced. e.g. No offence to the owner, but we bought all new i20 in 8L 3yrs ago. Why people are paying this much for a 8yr old hatchback:

Carwale.com is the best site to check used car "asking" prices. Actual deals will happen at a lower price than the listed price.

Only the MG ASTOR base variant Sprint and mid variants Shine & Select seem to be undervalued in the Indian automotive scene.

I think the XUV3OO is a great car and congratulations on owning one. However, the 300NM engine car was beaten in a drag race by the Citroen C3 Turbo with 190NM - check autocar videos on youtube. So, only on performance, the 300NM is beatable and that too by smaller cars.

The fact that XUV3OO is 5 star safety rated and the C3 Turbo is 0 star safety rated is another matter altogether but, of course, a very important one.

Re: What are some undervalued cars in India?

In my opinion some undervalued cars during its time were:
  • Mahindra Bolero (It still is....)
  • Datsun Go Plus (7 seater under 10 Lakhs during its time)
  • Hyundai Santro
  • Daewoo Cielo
  • Ford Escort
  • Maruti Versa
Currently, I feel a few of the used German luxury cars are undervalued, for example, Audi Q3, Mercedes B class and the mighty Mercedes ML!

Re: What are some undervalued cars in India?

In terms of pricing, not a single car on the market has ever been undervalued. If at all, there are cars that have been overvalued and the market has responded accordingly.

If we want to talk about cars that are undervalued, as in, sell in less numbers for what they really offer, there are quite a few of them as listed so far in this thread.

My personal favorites:

1. S-Cross 1.6 Diesel: Properly powerful car costing less than 20 lakhs, after the Chevrolet Cruze

2. Maruti Suzuki Ignis: 'Export' quality build, European looks and a peppy engine. Great beater car.

3. Chevrolet Beat: The one small car that made me smile every time I sat inside it. Interiors were unique and the build quality was awesome.

4. Honda BR-V: Spacious, reliable and good looking Honda MPV. The car did not have a competition back then (the first gen Ertiga was smaller). Honda made the car 'overvalued', later offered hefty discounts.

Keeping the best for the last

What are some undervalued cars in India?-fiatlinea6.jpg

5. Fiat Linea: The smaller details that made me love the car.
- Had a semi-independent rear suspension as opposed to the cheap torsion beam that is offered in a 30 lakh Innova today.

What are some undervalued cars in India?-linea_boot.jpg
- Gas struts on boot lid, no intruding metal arms inside the boot when closed, I would stuff the entire boot without worrying about the lid not closing.
- Informative console (used to tell exactly which bulb is fused).
- Firm, super comfortable rear seats. Solid build and ride.
- Superb noise insulation for the price.
What are some undervalued cars in India?-linea_-rooflights.jpg
- The first versions also had small orange LEDs near roof light switches, the indicator stalk movement was dampened, so they would not sound as if breaking a bone.
- The gear shifter stick had additional dampeners to reduce vibrations coming from the engine to the gear lever.
- Three headrests, rear curtains on second-to-top variants as well.
What are some undervalued cars in India?-linearear-curtain.jpg

- Awesome 1.3 diesel engine with Variable Geometry Turbo (all other MJDs used by Marutis/Tatas had Fixed geometry turbo), delivered peak torque throughout the useful RPM range, that made it super fun to drive despite low power figures, sure it would feel out of breath after 90 kmph, but never felt it lacked the 'pull' needed for overtakes (as long as the rpms were above 2000-2200)

The Linea is one car that qualifies the statement: 'they don't make such cars anymore'
