OMG!!
The conversion looks like a factory job. Loved the idea of raising the roof, and the way the spare tyre has been placed! Lovely customization there, awesome!

@ gr8guy: No comment on that fully-stocked bar?

Do also share pictures of it in action (i.e. camping) when you have a chance. Thanks.

Is camper legal?

Hi Gr8Guy,
Your camper is superb, wish I can have one.
Height and length of the vehicle increased , I was wondering whether its legal or not? If not what is required to make it leagal? Any problem with insurance, etc?

Simply Beautiful!!! Your execution seems top class. The finish seems top class for a TATA donor car. (Exterior)

1) Some questions - Have you made any changes to the Wheelbase?
2) Is the engine Stock? if yes - how is the performance?
3) Does it require you to make any changes to the registration / RTO etc?

The solar powered battery was a master stroke in my opinion - hats off! Can you post more pics specially from the drivers view and the dashboard?

And lastly - I would love to come down to Pune on a weekend to see the car, if you plan something for the gang - pls keep me posted!

A Campervan- I Would Definitely Want One, Would You?

Usually, at my Guesthouse people drive in, in their cars, do their work and move along. Being a true blue Tbhpians I always give their vehicles a glance or maybe a 2nd glance if its something special.

But yesterday evening few guests checked in with the most special vehicle I have ever seen at my guesthouse. Not only it was worth a second look but it was also worth taking photos, with the owners permission ofcourse, and posting it here. (hope you will agree)

It was a proper campervan. 4 Americans and 2 Indians (owners) were just back from a trip to Leh traveling in the campervan.

On speaking to the owner, i got to the following information.

1. The owner has designed this campervan himself and uses them as his business to take people camping.

2. The base body is of Tata 4X4 crew cab, and the cost of the vehicle only is about 7 Lakhs. The modification would cost an extra 9.5 lakhs app.

3. Tata warranty stays even after modification. (Not sure but, apparently he is making a few more hence has tied up with Tata)

4. It has a 4x4 shift on fly

5. It has Electrical roof lifting.

6. It can accomodate 4 adults easily.

7. G.C. is 210mm

8. Waist water tank 25ltrs and fresh water tank is 125 ltrs.

9. night vision reverse camera

9. Other features in the accomodations are :- kitchenet/ drawers to hold eatables/ 65 ltrs compressor fridge/ gas and 2 stove burner/ portable poti/ 4 beds / solar panel with inverter / toilet tent with comode stool / awning tent with foldable beds / pipe roll with tullu pump to fill in water from a source/ membrane water purifier / vanity mirror for ladies/ pressure hoze points.

Here are some photos.

On my trip to Norway I saw a lot of campervans and the idea there of camping is very prevalant. The reason why these things are very popular in Norway and other countries is that they have proper infrastructure for camping like;- designated grounds with proper waste disposal, electrical connections, water sources etc etc.

In India we dont have anything like that, but still I think if have the resources, owning something like this would be really nice. Forget room bookings, forget eating road side food, just drive at your own leaisure, stop where you want to, start whenever you want. And that would be a nice adventurous holiday.

Just the thought of owning a campervan is giving me thrills, how about you guys, if possible would you like to own one?
