The BMW iX1 LWB EV will offer strong competition at that price point.
I believe there are 4 launches in the pipeline from VW group:

CBUs: Tiguan R line and Kodiaq RS. These will be north of 50 lakhs, and the Kodiaq should be north of 60 lakhs ex showroom.

CKDs: Tiguan and Kodiaq. These should be below 45 lakhs ex showroom, with the Kodiaq a couple of lakhs above Tiguan.

I don’t think it makes any sense to compare the Kodiaq price with Tiguan R line. There’s no way Tiguan R line will be cheaper than base Kodiaq, CBU duty structure won’t allow that to happen.

For CBU they don’t care if it sells less. Even if VW sells only 100 units of Tiguan R line they should be fine. CBUs don’t require any investment. The expectation for a CKD is much higher so the pricing is a lot more important. Kodiaq has always been a strong seller for the segment and I don’t expect Skoda to screw that up.

Previous gen Kodiaq was slightly less than 40L ex showroom. There’s no reason for this one to cost more than 45 tbh.

I am expecting super bad pricing for the Octavia RS and Superb since unfortunately they’ll be CBUs as well. But Kodiaq I’m sure they’ll price well.

Agree with your comments on Tiguan R-Line and Kodiaq VRS. But, I don't think VW would consider a CKD Tiguan. However, it is highly likely that they would bring the 7 seater Tayron as CKD to position alongside Kodiaq. This would allow VAG to position two cars (just like Taigun and Kushaq) with the same mechanicals against the Fortuner and the upcoming Ford Everest.

I guess you are referring to the 265 ps version of Tiguan R-line launched in Europe. But this is not the one being launched in India. We are getting the cosmetic variant of R-line with the same 204 ps engine that the new Kodiaq will also have (please see Tiguan R-line thread on team BHP).

So the Indian version of the Tiguan R-line and the new Kodiaq will be definitely comparable. Speculation is that the R-line will be launched around 48 lakhs ex- showroom. So there will be some uncomfortable pricing calls that VAG India will have to make now. They can price the new Kodiaq below the Tiguan R -line, say around 45 lakh INR, hoping that buyers will think of the R line as a halo model despite the regular engine. Or they have to price the new Kodiaq above the Tiguan R-line.

I know that the Tiguan R line is just a cosmetic trim. But it is an imported CBU model and that’s why it gets the price premium. There will be a regular CKD Tiguan later on for sure which will be cheaper.

I expect Kodiaq to be cheaper than Tiguan R line despite the same engine because it’s a CKD. It will make Tiguan appear really poor value, absolutely. But CBUs aren’t expected to sell.

Tiguan R line will probably sell 100-250 units total, while Kodiaq CKD is expected to sell more than that monthly. I’m confident that Kodiaq will be much cheaper.

VW has a CKD Tiguan already since a few years now selling in India alongside the CKD Kodiaq

CKD Tiguan is discontinued now. And new gen will NOT be introduced as CKD.

Instead, Tayron (7 seater Tiguan Allspace replacement) is confirmed to launch as CKD, likely by end of the year.

As for the pricing of Kodiaq, before all the price cuts, the 2.0 TSI L&K Kodiaq was priced at 43 ex showroom. I expect the new model to be 45+ easily for the top variant.

Even 45L won’t be that bad for the new gen Kodiaq. The interior is significantly upgraded as I saw from Carwow review. The extra ~15bhp doesn’t hurt either.

Re: Tiguan vs Tayron, good to know we’re getting the Tayron. I guess folks would prefer waiting for the Tayron than getting the Tiguan R line which is just a cosmetic trim, instead of full fat R trim with upgraded engine and AWD. The Golf GTI will fancy the driving enthusiasts (unfortunately still not Golf R).

Re: 2nd-gen Skoda Kodiaq spied in India

Škoda has revealed the India-spec Kodiaq to Media Houses.

Two Variants on Offer: SportLine and L&K

Main differences between the two are visual changes on the exterior and interior with different trims and upholstery used.

Gets the 2.0L TSI pushing 201hp and 320Nm with the 7spd DSG + AWD for now, same as the VW Tiguan R-Line. Diesel might be launched at a later date.

Equipment Includes:
- Virtual Cockpit
- 13-inch Infotainment System
- Canton Audio Setup
- Electrically adjustable front seats
- Two wireless phone chargers
- 2nd Row sliding seats for increased space for 3rd row passengers
- L&K exclusively gets heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, which the SportLine misses out on.
- No DCC for India Spec cars

Thanks for sharing! Race Blue Metallic really pops in the sunlight and looks brilliant. Good to see that the Indian variants will be getting the steering wheel with Skoda lettering instead of Skoda logo

Looks great but why no DCC? Is it to soothe VW when they bring in the Tayron?

Re: 2nd-gen Skoda Kodiaq spied in India

Why does the indian version have this naming. In other markets the sportline is the top variant. I really love the sportline but missing out on the ventilated seats is a hige deal. No DCC on either models. Are they creating a market for the Kodiaq VRS?
Also just noticed that the media images of the sportline interiors with the smart dials show seat ventilation. Not sure if ventilation is there on the sportline without message and heating.

So Kodiaq and Tiguan R-Line are same thing where Kodiaq is 10 lakhs cheaper than Tiguan R-Line?

What a strategy by Volkswagen Group

To add to it, Kodiaq being a 7 seater and arguably a much better European design language.

The wheel look cheap and nasty. Interiors lack the wow factor.

I would call it Backward Evolution
