Nissan's version of next-gen Duster to be more upmarket

Nissan’s Duster based SUV to be positioned higher than the Renault.

The upcoming Duster will focus on the domestic market while Nissan’s version is aimed more at export.

Quote:
Duster starting price to be lower than Nissan’s SUV
New Nissan SUV to get more features than Duster
Both models marked for export, but greater focus on Nissan SUV
The two SUVs will share a lot under the skin, from the heavily localised CMF-B platform to the likely three petrol engine option line-up, which could include the 1.0-litre HR10 and 1.3-lite HR13 turbo-petrols and a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol.

Quote:
It may be that the entry-level 1.5 NA engine will be reserved for the Duster. Similarly, top-spec variants of Nissan’s SUV are likely to have more premium kit, ranging from upholstery to tech, though there is no word on which upmarket features will be skipped for the Renault. This would mean that the Renault Duster would be a direct rival to more affordable midsize SUVs like the naturally aspirated petrol versions of the MG Astor (starting price: Rs 9.98 lakh) and Grand Vitara (Rs 10.99 lakh*). Meanwhile, Nissan's SUV will likely see more direct competition from the Honda Elevate (Rs 11.69 lakh*), Skoda Kushaq (Rs 11.59 lakh) and VW Taigun (Rs 11.62 lakh).
It is likely that the seven-seat version of the SUVs – they were previewed by the Bigster concept and are expected to launch in India by 2026 – will follow the same norm, with Renault’s Hyundai Alcazar rival being more affordable than Nissan’s.

Any idea of a possible timeline for the launch of these models? Our Nexon has hit 97k kilometres, and we are on the lookout for a replacement.

Get a replacement; when that replacement needs a replacement Nissan might do a showcase event in India.

The Terrano also was placed at a slight premium compared to the Duster. Maybe this is their way of additional differentiation.

Re: Nissan's version of next-gen Duster to be more upmarket

Since the Duster/Terrano is positioned as VFM offering in the EU, South America, and other regions, this powertrain is suitable.

However, due to the pricing in India, neither of these models would fall under the VFM segment. To be competitive in the C and D1 segments, they would require a more powerful powertrain.
The Korean, German, and Indian competitors in these segments have strong offerings in terms of powertrains and as an overall package.

They also did the same with the Terrano. But that's why things went south for Terrano I think

I hope that by upmarket, they do not mean unnecessarily overpricing & killing a promising product.

Nissan need to understand that one product cannot redeem their years of struggle in the Indian market overnight, they need to be patient, let the product establish itself in the market.

If they are going to be greedy at the time of launch itself, the product will never be able to take up and will become another 'Kicks' in the market - a good product but not many takers. I hope better sense prevails.

Agree completely. With good features and pricing, the car could have been a great competitor to Creta. Just look where Creta volume is today and Kicks is. All that they have now is some minuscule volume on Magnite.

Another announcement by Nissan without any fixed timelines.

If I remember correctly, Nissan has made a few announcements and also showcased a few products which are yet to launch. We can just hope this announcement of launching a Duster-like SUV holds true.

Re: Nissan's version of next-gen Duster to be more upmarket

Everything is upmarket until the market decides otherwise and stock piles up at dealerships. Suddenly 'upmarket' comes with bigger discounts, then it becomes upmarket no more.
