Re: 2024 BMW 5 Series LWB (G68) | A Close Look & Preview

Good to see a sensible tyre profile selection by BMW. 225/55 R 18 is in Jeep Compass territory in terms of side wall and it will be a very practical choice. And the car looks like it will give a fair competition to the upcoming LWB E-Class unlike before. And a huge thanks to the BMW design team for not installing those ugly so called grill.

Re: 2024 BMW 5 Series LWB (G68) | A Close Look & Preview

The undersized wheels & the elongated rear portion make the car look weird & ugly from the side profile angle, especially in the image where both the cars are seen. May be I am not able to get over the beautiful design of the G30. The designers definitely messed up here.

Now, the F10 looks more timeless. Let’s see if this design grows on us? I’d consider this if 6 cyl diesel variant is launched. 8 years & 123,000 kms later the itch for upgrading my F10 520d is there..

Re: 2024 BMW 5 Series LWB (G68) | A Close Look & Preview

Remove that BMW badge and it looks like a 4 cylinder Kia sedan trying too hard to look sporty. Considering how good looking new Kia vehicles are, I think its insulting to Kia also. Whoever is approving these designs has absolutely no taste.

The front looks like a 2024 modern AI interpretation of a mid 2000s Kia, the side looks like one of the bloated disproportional Chinese sedans from the the 2010s and the rear looks like a it was copied from a rejected design proposal found in the dumpster near the Mercedes design studio.

If I was BMW boss, I would immediately fire the designers. The only reason BMW is not being run over is because the Mercedes now looks like a very expensive Hyundai (it not bad looking though-definitely the better looking one among the Germans sedans). Maybe most of their customers have more money than taste.

Well, BMW has managed to make a car for China that's more Chinese than the cars there! Why the garish golden bumper accents? Or the illuminated profile around the kidney grille? Even that "5" on the Hofmeister kink looks rather brash and loud.

I may be in the minority, but I don't appreicate all this touchscreen overload. Why can't some functions remain physical?

BMW, can you pls refine the G30 instead of this chimera of parts? That machine was timeless!

Two questions,

1. Does the roof come with a proper retractable cover? No amount of electrochromatic darkening can make the Indian sunshine bearable. Just see what's happening to Grand Vitara/Hyryder owners!

2. Where is the P mode on the gear shifter/gear scroller?

The Electronic Parking button (right below the gear selection scroller) serves as the P mode too. Seen this in many a recent EVs, so must be the same case here too.

EV's don't have a gearbox, a park mode is redundant for those. Cars with an automatic gearbox need a formal park mode for obvious reasons.

Re: 2024 G60 BMW 5-Series spotted in India

I don't think a long wheel base was required for most customers unless they are trying to position it as a chauffeur driven only vehicle.

There is plenty of space at the rear in the standard wheelbase version.

Here are some pictures of the available legroom for a 5"11 passenger and the driver's seat in position for a 5"11 driver.

I alloy wheels are too small for such large sedan and 19 inch ones should have been standard.

Re: 2024 BMW 5 Series LWB (G68) | A Close Look & Preview

G30 Facelift was the peak 5 series, Will definetly regret not being able to pick one up esp the 530D.

G60 looks like the reg wheel base 5 series ate up a 6GT, Rear half of the car looks disproportionate to the boot area.

Massive dissappointment, quite sure Audi A6 is going to have a field day in this segment.

Re: 2024 BMW 5 Series LWB (G68) | A Close Look & Preview

The design of the new 5er goes against everything the BMW 5 series brand stood for. I seriously wonder what goes on in the head of designers when they sign off a design like this. Yes few radical design changes take time to grow on you but man this is an absolute abomination of the 5 series name.

My respect for Mercedes and Audi Increase after looking at the road they are taking with the E-Class and the A6. As someone who has a e90 320d in the family garage, which has aged so beautifully I feel really sad to see what has become of BMW design.

The rear design is appalling to say the least. I have a question, i have seen the wooden piece with the lightning design below the dashboard in the X5 as well. Is it just me or does it look like a cracked piece of interior at first glance.

Re: 2024 BMW 5 Series LWB (G68) | A Close Look & Preview

That rear legroom looks good, much better than the standard wheelbase BMW 5-Series generations, but it sure does look like the LWB E-Class has the upper hand. Plus, in terms of space & comfort, it would be nice to do a back-to-back comparo with the LWB 3-Series. I think the 3-Series LWB will be a match (not in terms of quality though - 5-Series is a full level up).

Re: 2024 BMW 5 Series LWB (G68) | A Close Look & Preview

The car has the right headline features to play in the segment that's dominated by the long wheelbase E class for nearly 7 years now. The 18 inch wheels are not good looking, that's because better 19 inch ones are available at dealer markup, this is bmw after all, not transporters without borders.

The big misses are lack of sun curtains in the side and back, non reclining rear seats and lack of boss mode controls. I'm not sure how many driving owners will pick this over an in-fashion SUV. It's doesn't have the limo proportions, so rich owners with grown kids would be the target customers I guess.

Loved the interiors!
And the space especially when it is the replacement for 5GT
