Jeep India has introduced a downward revision in pricing for their most affordable offering, Compass. Jeep India is not known for slashing prices or striking value propositions, and the company’s new step is surely in the right direction. However, the price reduction is selective and is not for all variants.

Good move by Jeep India but I don’t think it makes much difference to sales. Competition is really strong in this segment. Anyway something is better than nothing !

Jeep Compass gets a price cut; now starts at Rs 18.99 lakh

Jeep India has revised the prices of the Compass by Rs 1.70 lakh. The entry-level 'Sport' variant now costs Rs 18.99 lakh (ex-showroom).



The Jeep Compass is available in six variants: Sport, Longitude, Night Eagle, Limited, Black Shark and Model S. Besides the base trim, prices of all the remaining variants have been increased by Rs 14,000.

There have been no changes on the mechanical front though. The Jeep Compass is available with a 2.0-litre diesel engine that makes 168 BHP and 350 Nm. The engine is mated with either a 6-speed manual or a 9-speed automatic gearbox.

Jeep Compass ex-showroom prices:

• Sport – Rs 18.99 lakh
• Longitude – Rs 22.33 lakh
• Night Eagle – Rs 25.18 lakh
• Limited – Rs 26.33 lakh
• Black Shark – Rs 26.88 lakh
• Model S – Rs 28.33 lakh

This is precisely the problem. They realized they needed to correct the price, but, alas, they chose to lower the price of the bare bones Sport variant, which IMHO sells the lowest in the range, but, surprised to see they increased the prices of other variants

Jeep numbers MoM are in 300s now, going by last month's sales figures shared on TBHP. How long can they sustain with such low volumes? Will they wind up India sales or will they be built against a booking and the rest get exported to RHD markets? Only time will tell

Decent move by Jeep but it's too little, too late, Jeep needs a lot more product activity.

Compass is really a great product being let down badly by Jeep's poor product and pricing strategy

Looks like a last minute band aid fix. A significant price cut for 4x2 auto is what may give a boost to sales. I doubt Jeep would do that though, they seem quite happy just being engine suppliers and manufacturing for exports here.

Such pricing for the current gen Compass doesn't give any hope for competitive pricing for the next gen either.

Actually, only the Base Sport variant gets price cut while the rest of variants see price hike.

Jeep should launch next gen Compass at a lower price or increase the size. Fact is that FCA is selling cars only in Metro's and A1 cities, sales in smaller cities is nil.

Price slashed way too late, competition and the market has moved miles ahead.

Compass apart from price reduction gets nothing in features upgrade or product refresh, looks like its a stock clearance. Question is who will want this aged dinosaur today.

A very tepid move by jeep. The sport variant misses out on too many important features expected of a vehicle priced close to 23 lakhs on-road - such a 6 air bags, cruise control, ACC, push button start etc. No one spending that kind of money in 2024 will want to forgo such features that are taken for granted today. I really do not see the point of this move.

No petrol variant and now increase in prices of most variants except the base. I wonder what the Sales Team/Management is thinking. Are they hoping people come in to showroom lured by that price point and then upgrade to a better variant? The base variant is ridiculously bare boned at this price point.

Jeep seems to struggle to find a sweet spot between likes of Kasha's and Cretas and goes even over Harrier territory, but features are definitely not commensurate. I test drive the Petrol AT once when they did have it and it was lethargic. No clue how diesel is though.

At this prices, it is hard to fathom whether they are interested in the domestic market at all, or is it all exports for them.

For the couple of hundreds who would consider Jeep even today, there will be a handful who will look to purchase to the higher spec with the increased costs, assuming they really like the product. I assume Jeep is targeting them, which in my opinion is very shortsighted move. Once a car model drops it value from the market, it is very difficult to correct it. It feels like a last-ditch effort.

I think the price cut for base model is for targeting Creta, Harrier customers.

A friend who is in the market nearly finalized Harrier Pure (O) variant but now with Compass' price cut, the difference for him is now only 1.5 lakhs. Now he is considering to stretch a bit as Compass is a much better built car than Harrier, has approximately same features that he was getting in Harrier's variant & doesn't mind his car to be a bit short.

Compass still has a brand following & with a lower starting price, they may be able to get higher footfalls & probably converts from other CSUV customers.

In my opinion they should launch another version at 17.99 Lakhs with those old black steel wheels (2017 Sport models). Those looked better than the alloys on the current base version.

Any addition to volumes will help everyone. Existing customers like me would benefit from economies of scale especially the cost of spares.

Things aren't looking great for Jeep (Stellantis). I am anxious of what might happen in the near future.
