Great! Any news about the Defender being assembled here ?

50L drop on the HSE LWB Diesel
40L drop on the Autobiography LWB Petrol
30L drop on the RR sport

I expected a bigger drop from Tata on this considering they are saving hugely by not getting them in as CBU.

Curious to know the CKD Defender pricing.

Re: JLR's Range Rover to be assembled in India

Good job!

Since there will be limited options on CKD, not some crazy variants, I expect service levels and turnaround time for repairs to improve as well. Also, customers may buy the cars earlier, unlike waiting for months as of now.

Second, with higher numbers, JLR can have more dealers. For some reason, JLR is still struck up with old Tata dealers like Dada in Punjab or AMP in Delhi NCR.

Time to get new Dealers probably.

Looking forward to the day when we can say Indian Range Rovers and more reliable than British ones!

It is an easy target!

My guess is that the Defender is already made in a low cost factory in Slovakia so except for duty, savings will be minimal

Oh damn! Time to liquidate stuff and get a RRS on discount

X7, GLS and even Defender will see some serious heat now.

Re: JLR's Range Rover to be assembled in India

Why do manufacturers fool customers with those Made in India tags?

Is a Honda CBR650R made in India as a CKD kit? No. So why do these local car and electronics (smartphones and laptops) manufacturers use this false marketing of "Made" in India instead of "Assembled" in India?

Its very obvious this is not a manufactured in India range of products since the final price on the products don't seem to be much lower than they were before as one would expect to be considering they won't have to pay 100% duties and taxes on parts manufactured here.

Why take free profits off the table. Also their current customer base will not be pleased if the same car they bought for 1.6 crores suddenly costs only 60L

The new pricing puts the Range Rover Sport at around the Cayenne/GLS/X7. Would be interesting to see how sales would fare among these.

Re: JLR's Range Rover to be assembled in India

My guess is that the profit margin (in absolute INR) on the ‘reduced’ price is actually higher than that on the CBU price. If that’s the case then the percentage margin is even higher

But it’s a free market out there and people who are in the market for such cars can rejoice ; money saved is money earned after all.

May be not. There is capital cost involved when you start making something locally. It will be amortized over few years, and becomes part of the cost head for these cars. We don't know if they are diluting the specifications for India, probably not. They may be exporting these too.

It certainly makes a difference on the sales side, as the same car can be sold in India for lesser price since the customs duty goes away. That means the position of the car in the demand curve will be lot lower, resulting in much higher sales. Per unit margin might even go down. However, overall profits may increase if the number of units sold increase significantly.

Re: JLR's Range Rover to be assembled in India

JLR's Range Rover to be assembled in India-govron_xwaa9cbk.jpg

This marks the first time any Range Rover products will be manufactured outside Solihull, UK. In India, the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and Range Rover Defender account for 80 per cent of the company's total sales. Since JLR only assembles its vehicles in India, the upcoming Range Rover and even the Range Rover Sport will be assembled and not manufactured.

Quote:
The prices for the 2024 Range Rover diesel now start at ₹2.36 crore (ex-showroom, India), while the petrol version is available from ₹2.60 crore (ex-showroom, India). Similarly, both the petrol and diesel formats of the Range Rover Sport are priced at ₹1.40 crore (ex-showroom, India). The local assembly of the two models has resulted in the Range Rover becoming relatively less expensive by ₹56 lakh, while the Range Rover Sport is now more affordable by ₹30 lakh.

With this, Tata Motors-owned JLR is expecting a record year in India, with volumes to see a significant jump. In FY24, the company retailed 4436 units, an 81 per cent growth from FY23, and an increase in revenue by 92 per cent. JLR also locally assembles the Range Rover Evoque, Range Rover Velar, Land Rover Discovery Sport and the Jaguar F-Pace from its Pune facility.

Re: JLR's Range Rover to be assembled in India

Announced exactly 2 days after Mercedes stupidly increased the price of the Maybach GLS Facelift by 40 lakhs (compared to the pre-facelift) - Thread Link (Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 facelift launched at Rs 3.35 crore).

The GLS by itself is a stretched GLE. The Maybach is luxurious, but not comparable to the Range Rover IMHO. It will be a lot more reliable, useable & practical though.

Very well said, having experienced both the cars, there’s definitely a charm, status associated with Range Rovers which is not yet there in current gen Maybach. Going by the current prices, dare I say, the Range at 2.36 cr is actually a bargain. One has to experience it, The Range Rover, not the Sport, it literally glides even with 23” wheels.
