Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 facelift launched at Rs 3.35 crore

Mercedes-Benz has announced the launch of the updated Maybach GLS 600 in India. The luxury SUV is priced at Rs 3.35 crore (ex-showroom).

The Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 receives a few cosmetic updates for the 2024 model year. The SUV gets a redesigned grille and bumper at the front and reworked LED taillights and exhausts at the back. It rides on 22-inch wheels as standard, however, Mercedes also offers a set of 23-inch wheels as an option.

The interior of the new Maybach GLS 600 looks similar to that of the outgoing version, except for a few changes. It gets a new steering wheel and the latest MBUX infotainment software. Apart from that, all the luxury creature comforts you would expect from the Maybach have been carried over, including the reclining seats with massage function, a refrigerator, rear seat entertainment screens and a central tablet.

Powering the GLS 600 is a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 mild-hybrid engine that delivers 549 BHP and 770 Nm. The engine is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel drive system. It enables the massive SUV to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and to a top speed of 250 km/h.

The new GLS 600 also gets Level 2 ADAS along with adaptive suspension. Fully active suspension with a Maybach drive mode is available as an option.

Not to mention: 39 lakhs more expensive than the prefacelift! Ridiculous how Mercedes does "chance pe dance" in typical bollywood style who love this machine and willing to pay any price to get its status of being an "A-lister"

A flat bottom steering wheel in a Maybach! It's hideous, and it's a sin.

Re: Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 facelift launched at Rs 3.35 crore

It seems Mercedes has made it's mind to seriously put Toyota Fortuner in shame in value for money quotient. The exterior is same of a regular GLS which already don't look good that means any GLS owner can upgrade the exterior to looks like Maybach.
And one question seriously, what extra did Mercedes added to make it dearer by such a huge price ?

Re: Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 facelift launched at Rs 3.35 crore

The GLS 600 Maybach has jumped from 2.4Cr in 2021 to 3.4Cr now, and this recent price hike is accompanied by almost no worthy features.

Mercedes is trying to squeeze profits, but I would equally blame Range Rover for these increases. RR cracked the 3-4Cr market, and if GLS 600 is not priced at par, it will be seen as "one segment below". So much of the demand for this segment comes from brand perception.

IMO 2014-2019 was the golden period for Mercedes, with the W222 S Class, V213 E class and a number of other really solid cars launching. From 2019-2024 they've launched a lot of cars that are slightly modified to justify massive price increases. In some cases I feel the cars have even regressed, simply to justify higher priced variants for e.g (1) the W223 lost some of the backseat comfort IMO -- just to create a better value prop for the Maybach, (2) EQS does not deserve the S class tag, it's barely an E class competitor. They just used the electric transition as an opportunity to bump up prices for their mid range.

This is the legacy of ex-MB CEO Martin Schwenk-- a long time CFO, who focussed on restructuring MB India financially starting 2018. Santosh Iyer is simply continuing to squeeze upside out of the brand value, without actually delivering better cars

Maybe these price increases will keep paying off for their business, but I sincerely hope that the competition crushes them and brings their prices down.
