Mahindra has announced the launch of a new mid-spec variant of the XUV700, called the AX5 Select (AX5 S). It is priced at Rs 16.89 lakh for the petrol and Rs 17.49 lakh (ex-showroom) for the diesel version.
The XUV700 AX5 Select is available with a bunch of features that would usually be found on higher trims. These include a Skyroof, dual 10.25-inch screens and an engine start/stop button. The AX5 S trim comes in a 7-seater configuration.
Other features offered on the AX5 Select trim include wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, AdrenoX Connect, Amazon Alexa, Follow-Me-Home headlamps with LED DRLs, LED taillights and full-sized wheel covers.
The XUV700 is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that produces 197 BHP and 380 Nm and a 2.2-litre diesel that makes 153 – 182 BHP and 360 – 450 Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.

Interesting !!
So this AX5 S variant is cheaper than AX5 yet it has some of the missing features of AX5 like wireless connectivity, start/stop button, 7 seater(for petrol) etc.
So what's the catch here ?
From the video it looks like alloys are missing, the tyres seem to be steel rims with AX3 type wheel-covers.
Also, no fog lamps.
Steering is hidden, which may mean no cruise control and no steering-mounted controls (like the earlier AX5).
I don't understand how the only way to get 6 airbags on the XUV700 is to pay through your nose for the AX7 variant.
To put that in perspective, the cheapest diesel AT with 6 airbags is:
XUV700 AX7 - 23.84L
Scorpio N Z8 S - 19L
Almost a full Rs 5L cheaper!
This is despite both XUV700 & Scorpio-N having a very similar entry price of Rs ~14L each for the MX / Z2 Petrol MTs.
Mahindra is totally milking the XUV700 - they could have very well introduced 6 airbags in the 2024 refresh or with this AX5 select model.
The full list of features on the AX5 Select. First thing I noticed was no 6-Airbags
Below are the top Mahindra XUV700 AX5 Select features.

AX5 came with 6 airbags + ESP as standard in diesels till 2023. I think now they are watering down variants just to get more numbers on the sales chart.

AFAIK, AX5 always came with 4 airbags that is it had front 2 airbags and side curtain airbags, what it lacked was side-airbags integrated into the front seats. It appears that the status quo has been maintained.

On my friend's AX5 he has 6 airbags, the vehicle was manufactured in Feb 2023
This new variant AX5 S = AX3 + Skyroof + Push button start + 3rd row seats at an additional cost of 50k.
AX3 is available only in 5 seat Layout and this AX5 S is available only in 7 seat layout. Mahindra should have simply named it AX3 S but they deceptively did this 😀

Your list is actually mostly the list of features in the MX and AX3. The only three features you get in the AX5 Select over the AX3 are:
- Pano Sunroof
- Push Button Start
- 2nd Row Lamps
This is a very lame launch. The AX5 Select does not even get ESP, which is a must-have safety feature for a tall car like this. It does not also get side airbags or curtain airbags. AX3 used to be available with 7 seat option for the Diesel manual, which has now been removed. So if you need 7 seats, you have to buy the AX5 Select at a minimum now. For most variants, a premium of Rs. 50,000 over AX3 gets you 7 seats, Pano Sunroof and Push button Start. It seems to be a launch only aimed at those who want to show off their kids standing up a poking their heads through the sunroof - an extremely dangerous practice that I see even seemingly educated drivers and families indulge in, even in urban India.
Mahindra has created the absolute worst and most thoughtless feature distribution on the XUV 700. If you want passive keyless entry, you have to go all the way to AX7L! So, you have to fish out your keys out of your pocket to unlock the car even in a AX7 that costs well over 30 lakhs on-road. If this is the case, then what is the use of offering push button start on lower variants?? If you have your key in hand, you might as well use it to start the car. Similarly, telescoping steering wheel is not a "luxury feature" to be reserved only for the AX7L! It is a basic requirement in a car designed to accommodate a range of driver heights. Also, in this day and age - for a company that prides itself on safety, in the SUV segment cars with high Center of Gravity - playing the upselling game by reserving basic and critical safety features such as 6 airbags and ESP to select higher variants, makes me doubt if Mahindra is genuinely committed to the safety of their customers and their families.
What we actually needed was a AX7 Select, which should have been made available at slightly higher price than AX5, that includes all AX5 features, plus 6 airbags, passive keyless entry, TPMS, power seats and LED headlamps. Mahindra is capable of such sane thinking, they actually did this and did this well on the ScorpioN Z8 Select, offering all essential safety features and other high value features at a significant discount to the Z8.

I beg to differ, AX5 never came with 6 airbags. It has curtain airbags which covers all 3 rows but side airbags from front seats are not part of AX5 variant.

No LED headlights and No alloy wheels , This has to be based on the AX3 model then. Did they just create an AX3+ :coldsweat
The XUV700 variant spread is pretty weird. Features such as the 12 speaker sound system and ventilates seats are what i really want, but i can't buy the AX7L with a petrol manual for some reason. he regular AX7 has a P/mt version, but no the L pack:Frustrati

You may be confusing the side curtain airbags to 6 airbags. Please check the front seats of your AX5 if they have the airbag tags.

Exactly, Mahindra does offers the curtain airbags but the front seats airbag were never offered in AX5.
Essentials seem to be missing in this variant:
Rear washer + wiper
Cruise control
Reverse camera
ESP
Alloys
And, strangely, AX5(S) gets push button start/stop while the higher AX5 doesn't get it.
